We used to have to hide from poachers, in the woods for hours/days at a time. The only way I could keep them safe before I could legally remove them, was guarding them!

🐏Sometimes they instinctively knew to go to the hidden place 🐏

Little Marco and his hens (including thumbelina and Tinkerbell) Marco is blind in his left eye but always keeps his girls in sight with the good eye!

They are digging for grubs in the leaf pile, swept up earlier in the day 😊🐔

This is how myself and others are changing the way "animal sanctuaries" are shaped, this is absolutely how our space we provide should be!

Close to home, replicating the animals natural environment and behaviours as best as we can!

The Refuge uses the concept of "animal-centered design" to create homes and landscapes that better meet the needs and natural behaviors of our animal residents. In this picture, you can see that Duck House 1 has a nice-sized pond with it's own natural ecosystem, a home for the residents that was built to keep them safe and to provide them easy access to the pond, and lots of different kinds of vegetation to provide a bit of privacy and comfort for these birds.

"little Egg" lays an egg

Little egg survived a horrendous dog attack! after 6 months of rehabilitation in sheppey she returned back to her flock.

Almost two years on this is her laying an egg and wiggling her healed tail afterwards❤️ 🪿🥚🪿❤️

Join our Forest School 🌿 Would you like the chance to immerse yourself in nature, meet new friends and take part in fun hands-on activities?! Come and join our Forest School sessions based at Aspens’ beautiful woodland, which is home to a rich variety of wildlife, trees and plants!🌿

The sessions run the first and second Sunday of every month, from 10am-4pm, and are open to those aged 8-25 who have a diagnosis of ASC (autism spectrum condition) or a learning disability and live in East Sussex.
