Was lucky enough to get to attend the annual medieval fun and play at Hamar yet again this weekend! Even though it felt a bit empty without Mugabe there by my side, and his wife did an amazing job taking care of me, and they even let me borrow and care for their iberian diva. And not to forget, who housed both doggo and I, and tagged along for another adventure she didnt know she needed.

Had such a blast with this little fellow today! I’m so grateful for having the opportunity to keep training and develop even when I’m without a horse of my own.

Four weeks and one day after his passing. I still cant believe he’s not here with me anymore.
And all of a sudden we got our first taste of winter. Mugabe is doing very well at the moment, and I’m quite sure that if we get just a little more time, we are going to reach a whole new level of quality of awesomeness that we’ve never had before. Fingers crossed his teeth will give us that time.

A little throwback to earlier this summer. I’m hoping for us to get another summer together. Only time will tell. He’s had his dental surgery, but we’re still a bit out in the open about him getting a full recovery. He’s in a belated pasture holiday now, eating all the grass he can get, in hope to stabilize his teeth enough for him to handle eating hay when there’s no more grass. All in all, I’m hoping for the best, as I am no where near ready to let him cross the rainbow bridge, but preparing my heart and soul for the worst. After all, he has been living a long and healthy life despite of his not so good teeth. But my gosh, I’m not ready. Not ready to let half of me go.

Here’s a little something to look at! The first picture isnt really looking that bad, and it is not. It has a lot of good elements to it, but if you look closely there’s a drop right underneath the saddle and behind the withers. Swipe to the second picture, and see the difference in the whole body of the horse when he manages to lift all the way through his back and up in the wither. We’re really on a good roll in his training, and more and more pieces are coming together.

Tournament time at Trollspeilet this weekend. I had planned to stay on the ground this time, doing other stuff. And I did, for the first two days at least. Today I joined in just for the fun of it. And it was!

I know the quality of these pictures arent the best, but they still mean a whole lot for me. There’s been so so many times I’ve been thinking about giving up the struggle of figuring out his body and make him an athlete again and just be satisfied with him being a good looking show- and tournament horse. And then there’s my lack of trust and confident in my own skills and qualities as a rider and trainer on top of that. Luckily, I’m quite stubborn, combined with not being able to settle with ‘’almost’’. And now look! He’s starting to look like a massive little beasty friesian. Note to self: You can do it. Keep showing up. You are good enough.

So this ‘’just’’ happened. And it makes me really emotional. Top picture from today, bottom pic from july last year, and the second pic is from when we first started to adress his body almost ten years ago. Last summer I was really pleased about how he looked, since he has spent many years looking like a stick figure due to different challenges we’ve had. But look at him now! My baroque little friesian is coming back to me. It has truly been a tough path coming here. And the best part is, there’s still more to achieve ❤️
There’s a very special kind of lady who has her birthday today. Eefje is turning 22 and she carries her age with grace. She’s the most warm hearted, royal and beautiful soul I know. Happy birthday, my love.
How time flies. Twelve years ago, I became the luckiest girl on two feet, and my friesians entered into my world. It has been an adventure of which I am forever grateful. May it be many more years to come.

I’ve been out teaching for the past two days, and when I left home we had bareable ground to ride on. Now, not so much. The world has turned into the biggest ice skating arena you can imagine. Hoping to find a spot suitable for riding tomorrow, tho. Putting in an order for new studded boots asap, no more ice stopping me from riding!

So I’m carefully back in the saddle, and we’re fiddling around with connecting the hind quarters to the lifted front. As you can see in the first picture, he is now able to lift his front up much more. But he’s still missing strenght and capasity, so when trying to connect, he’s falling behind the vertical. But he’s so much fun and feels like a true little powerhouse to sit on! Work in progress, and a lot of fun and joy on the way.

I’m really not supposed to ride for one more week. But yesterday I just couldnt wait even one more minute! And today, we went out for a short little hack. We were out for twenty five minutes, and this is how we looked when we came back home. I had a blast, tho!

Still under post-op restrictions, and I have to say I’m getting bored to death. Luckily I can enjoy the forest with Mugabe from ground, and today Frøy joined in as well.
He is such a poser. Besides going out for walks in the forest, we do some work in hand. I havent done much of it the past years, and I had forgotten how much fun it is! Have to get a bit creative these days, since riding is out of my way for three more weeks, and the work in hand is definitely a good substitute!

As I’m under post-op restrictions for a while now, this is how pony-time will be spent for the next four weeks. Not allowed to walk my dog, but ponpon is way better behaved both off and on leash, he’s going to be my slow walking, non-pulling companion.
