loved. Our training sessions are all about working with you & your dog to achieve your goals
all based on your own specific circumstances & your pet's unique characteristics. If private, personalized pet care is another service you might be considering, I offer this service in my
home. To ensure complete support & care of your pet while they are with us, I only care for one

Today I received an email from a pet owner with the sad news that her one year old pup had passed. I hadn’t yet gotten the opportunity to care for the beautiful pup, but was so very much looking forward to that time with her. It was of course a shock to hear this sad news.
Our pets live such short lives as it is, but to pass at just one year of age is just so incredibly unfair.
But this sweet one year old knew only love while she was here. That’s the most important thing of all.. to ensure that what ever time they have here on this earth, and whatever time we are blessed with having them, is beautiful, precious, and memorable.

While my first love goes to the dogs (😊), another consistent love of mine throughout my life has been art. My dad often told me that art doesn't need to be expensive. It only has to be something that speaks to you & brings you joy.
On a recent trip with my husband, I found these two beautiful cards that I knew I would take home & frame. Two great loves-art & dogs- in these sweet frames. Can't wait to hang them up!! 😊

Very sad to hear of the passing of one of my dog training mentors, Karen Pryor. Karen was a pioneer in teaching us how to use positive reinforcement (R+) to communicate with, & train our animals. Her book, Don’t Shoot The Dog!, is a classic & one of the first books I read on dog training. Her important work showed me, & no doubt countless others, that we can effectively train our dogs without ever having to utilize such things as fear, intimidation, or violence. Dogs deserve our love, compassion, & kindness. Her life’s work will undoubtedly live on & inspire many more generations to come to build loving relationships with their beloved pets. Thanks you Karen. It is an absolute honour to be a graduate of her program.

This is the next book on my reading list. 😊

I was lucky to see a digital version of this book before it was published, but I'm thrilled to have a hard copy of it now. Abandoned: Chronicling the Journeys of Once-Forsaken Dogs is by Katherine Carver and features stunning photos of rescue dogs along with little essays that tell you about the dog and what happened next. The book has blurbs from all kinds of famous people, including Jane Goodall, quoted on the cover: "Carver describes, with words and beautiful photographs, the plight of abandoned dogs and how a caring home can transform a frightened cowering being into a confident and happy companion who will give unconditional love... A must-read." Congratulations, , on this beautiful book!

What a wonderful year 2024 was!! As I look back at these photos, I remember all the great moments shared with these amazing & beloved pets. They fill my life & bring me such immense joy! A heartfelt thank you to all of my Blind Bay clients & beyond for entrusting my husband & I with the care of your family members because that's what our pets are...our family.

This is a BIG HELLO to all of you who are facing some challnges with your pups right now . I see you! I bet some of you might even be feeling rather hopeless if some of these challenges you are facing involve your pup struggling with reactivity.

I want you to know that one of the BEST things you can do for your pup..and yourself..is to focus on the relationship the two of you have together.

Work on building that bond of love & trust first. You are your pup’s best friend. There are no perfect dogs just as there are no perfect humans. But a lot of amazing things can happen when you make time for just you & your pup.

What makes you pup happy? What scares your pup? These are important things to know & be aware of in helping them to become more comfortable. For training to have a chance at being successful, your pup must know that you will always keep them safe.

Will work for food!!! What dogs like, such as food and praise, are things they are more than happy to work for. Add in the use of a Clicker followed by a primary reinforcement such as food & you now have a very powerful tool you can use to communicate with your dogs. And....it's a whole lot of fun!!!! In the video, I am teaching Frankie to target my hand with her nose. We begin with just clicking every time Frankie moves her nose towards my target hand & each time she does I click that behaviour followed immediately with a treat she absolutely LOVES!!!! We practice a few repetitions of this & once Frankie is reliably offering her sweet nose to my hand we can now add the cue, "Touch!" If you're interested in giving Clicker Training a try, start with clicking & treating first. This will help your pup understand that the sound of Clicker makes those really yummy treats appear!! Clicker Training takes practice & some great timing but it can be so rewarding for you & your pup.
