California Weimaraner Education and Rescue CalWEAR is a non-profit organization based in Southern California dedicated to Weimaraner rescue, foster care, adoption, and education.
(14)

CalWEAR is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization based in Southern CA with a goal of fostering local needy Weimaraners within our homes while we work to find them loving adoptive homes. Weimaraners who come to us are generally from area shelters or private owners who are no longer able to care for them. Regardless of where they’re from, all Weimaraners in our care are thoroughly assessed f

or medical, physical, behavioral, and emotional needs, and are never placed before we determine they are absolutely ready to go to their adoptive home. As part of our education efforts, we also offer continuous and ongoing assistance to adoptive Weimaraner families. From time to time, we publish articles about Weimaraner health, behavior, safety, and training. We are also happy to make house visits to help local adoptive families overcome any behavioral and training problems at any time.

WHO WANTS TO FOSTER?? This lovely 9 year old boy is living with an elderly lady who can no longer care for him. Her extended family is out of State and looking for a better life for Luke. We desperately need a foster for him until we can find a forever home. He used to live in an apartment and was reliably house trained but has been living outside for months now so might need a refresher. If taken inside he does sit by the door wanting to go out. He is GREAT with other large dogs and loves to play wrestle. He is fond of all toys and does the normal disembowelment of stuffed toys. Friendly and happy ...just needs someone who can take care of a Weim the way a Weim should...in the house on the couch!

At 9, this boy is gorgeous and still loves to play! ANYONE!? Currently he is in the Pomona area of LA but we can help get him to you. He IS neutered.

This was posted a week ago … since then we’ve had 6 more dogs come into our care. That’s not counting the ones that owners are still holding for us because of no fosters. We have never in our many years of Rescue seen so many Weimaraners needing a new family. If you have space … or have been thinking of a new family member…. Please please let us know and get an adoption questionnaire in if you haven’t done one. Www.CalWear.org/adopt/. We have several that have not been listed yet…. Trying to catch up on entry is a daunting task …. We have a lovely “pair” of 2 year old siblings, male and female available now! Thinking a lone weim would be bored? These two are great together and bonded. We’ve promised their family to try to keep them together!! Want to meet them? They’re in San Diego area.

Times are tough in Rescue right now. Covid dogs, as we call them. Everyone moving, going back to work, giving their pets up to a shelter, to us. We can’t pull people to love them out of the air. Please! If you’re on our adoption or foster list please go to CalWear.org under available dogs and see if you see a dog you can help with, even if on a temporary basis. This is when our fans can truly pull together to help a dog in need. We have three more not listed that need to come out of local shelters. No fosters available to help. Times are tough for all of us…we can all pull together and get these guys into a great home. It’s challenging and heartbreaking. We’re foster based so we simply can’t do any of this without you all. Thank you!

THIS JUST HAPPENED!!!

Our two bonded boys, Jimmy and Wyatt found a furever home TOGETHER. The catch???? They had to fly far far away! Our deepest gratitude goes to Justin Wibright and Delia Gallardo for trusting the process even though only looking to adopt one boy. DOUBLE TROUBLE!!! The two have been flying since early this morning through Pilots and Paws with my good friends Isaac and Sonja Detrinidad who flawlessly piloted the little plane. We are so happy when things go as planned! Jimmy jumped right in the plane while Wyatt needed a bit of a butt push. They arrived tired and hungry but into the loving arms of their new mom and dad. Check out these happy pups! Both only around 2 years old and really happy they got to stay together. Thank you for caring for us Lance Vess! WE WILL MISS YOU!

CalWear wants to thank our many followers and Weim lovers! We appreciate each and every one of you for your thoughts, prayers and donations of time and money.

Wyler is the 6 month old puppy we pulled from the shelter listed as "RESCUE ONLY". He was found on the streets as a stray SO emaciated and undernourished that shelter staff couldn't figure out how he stood to support his own weight. He was producing green phlem both orally and rectally.

We suspected pneumonia had emerged from Kennel cough but the tests and x-ray was negative. New test panels show problems with his blood levels. Thankfully he is non parasitic. Something else is going on and it is going to take quite a few tests to figure it out to save his life.

To add pure insult to Wyler, and the way he is feeling, his neuter sutures opened up and he lost some blood. Of course the foster, and us volunteers, panicked. Thankfully bleeding stopped and he seems to be ok on that end.

We can, once again, use your prayers, love and support. In spite of his condition, Wyler seems to have a happy will to live. We feel he deserves that chance. Wyler's foster adores him and is spending sleepless nights trying to help him

If anyone cares to help this little guy, any amount would help. OR say some prayers for him.

We understand the sign of the times is limiting funds for all of us. Just know that every penny adds up. ONE dollar is more than the dollar we didn't have. THANK YOU!!!

DUKE is leaving his old life behind in the rearview mirror! He found his forever family today and will be living the nomad life as a "JEEP Road Dog"! His new family just couldn't resist his charm in their meet and greet and gave him a nice seat to watch the world go by. HE'S LITERALLY IN HEAVEN!!!! Thank you George Merriweather and Christina Merriweather for giving this sweet soul a chance at a great life! He will be forever indebted to you for sure!

UPDATE!!!! 5/12/22 CHECK THIS OUT!!!!

Jimmy and Wyatt are going to be flying to their new home tomorrow with Pilots N Paws!!!!! Say prayers for their flight and their pilots Isaac and Sonja. We will be forever grateful for their flight donation so these two boys can stay together. We are so happy that the generosity of a family looking for a new heart to heal after losing their female Weimie, Belle, recently. They saw Wyatt and Jimmy and just knew they couldn't let them be separated. THANK YOU Delia and Justin..your home will literally NEVER be the same! Watch for flight updates and photos tomorrow!

Meet JIMMY and WYATT....both 2 years old and a pair we hope can live together.

Jimmy is a gorgeous Blue boy. He came into rescue with separation anxiety. He gets really attached to his human. He is loving and sweet and loves to just "hang out" in front of his house watching the world go by. He never goes anywhere...just lays out front people watching. As long as he knows his dad is inside he is content. His anxiety got to be a little too much for his owner so the solution seemed to be to get him a playmate..

So in comes Wyatt, the silver, also 2. Wyatt is Jimmy's pal and keeps him on a lower stress level. Both boys love to play and wrestle with one another. Wyatt is more of a cuddler and keeps the two of them in line. They are both awesome dogs who love car rides and long walks or hikes. Wyatt's previous living condition would appall any pet owner. He was living outside never knowing what it was like to be part of a family. His protective nature of Jimmy may come from never having another friend until now.

Both boys are house trained and would love to get a brand new home together. They love each other and it would be a shame to separate them.

The two boys are VERY special to their owner...he has been in tears having to give them up but underwent spinal surgery where the surgeon actually broke another vertebrae in his back leaving him worse than prior to surgery. He can no longer care for the boys and know they deserve a much more active household and someone who can take them on excursions.

That being said, they CAN be separated at some point if we can't place them together. It WILL be hard on them, especially Jimmy. Anyone want to give it a try?? Both just youngsters and really nice boys.

Please be sure you have an application on file prior to contacting us so we can tell if you are a match for each dog. www.calwear.org/adopt

Adoption fees are posted on the calwear.org website toward the bottom of the home page. If Jimmy and Wyatt get adopted together we will split the difference.

Rudee has picked out a family. After 24 hours, they said she was being very good. No weim crimes yet, but I'm sure she is lulling them into a false sense of security. They learned she has never been u.or down stairs, so that is her new trick!

Remember Finn? He’s still looking for his furrever home. ❤️

Finn is our miracle dog who is finally available for adoption!
Finn is a 5-year-old altered, microchipped mellow male. This gentle giant is at 92 lbs., exceedingly smart, who learns
tremendously fast! In less than 3 weeks he learned all his basics. Finn LOVES people and HATES cats. Finn has learned
affection and attention, which were all new to this boy. He gets along great with other dogs!!

His hind legs were atrophied from being confined for years and was walking on his hocks. With daily walks, exercise and
massages, Finn has learnt to walk on a leash and on his feet! He is the perfect companion dog for the early riser who is
looking for a mellow Weim! Finn has Addisons disease (same as JFK) and is treated with a monthly injection.
Finn needs a mellow home without cats, and people that will truly love him for the amazing dog that he is. No barking,
no counter surfing, no separation anxiety, stays off the furniture (seriously). Knows how to open screen doors, water
bottles, get out of a car seat belt without destroying the harness...and other usual Weim antics. He is fostered in San
Diego and anxiously awaiting his furever home!

Update!!! BENNY WAS ADOPTED!!!!!! Best news ever!
Benny is now at the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter. This is devastating news for us!! The housing situation became urgent and owner had no choice but to take him in. We had a potential foster starting Monday but family couldn’t wait. We’re not giving up!!! Since he was owner turn in his time is almost up…. No stray holds!!!! We can still use your help to save this boy!!! If anyone can hang onto him until we can get a long term plan?? Benny is only 3 years old!!! He is way too young to perish!!! Anyone?!?! (His bio link is below)

HEAR YE HEAR YE!!!! Is there anyone out there available to take in a foster or two or three??? We have 2 beautiful males coming into CalWear that are a challenge only because they both have been mostly kept outside, not inside with their family. Both boys need a little house breaking training. Meet Duke and Benny. NOT coming in together yet they both have the same issue. Backyard dogs with natural tails. Without our CalWear family we can't help these boys. Anyone out there interested in a project? Taking in these beautiful boys who deserve so much more than to live outside their whole lives? Here is a link to their bios.
