We were contacted recently by someone through the Hamster Rescue Scotland Network page looking to surrender. They struggled with their decision but knew that coming to us was the best thing for this girl. So today this gorgeous syrian girl came in, we have named her Cindy-Lou (from the Grinch movie). She's 9 months old and has so far been really friendly and is busy exploring her new cage here. She won't be available until the new year as we are closed for Christmas, but as we always say we are never closed for surrenders xx

Well we are very close to closing on Saturday and this wee girl is still looking for a home for Christmas!! Here we have 11 month old Chinese hamster Li, she's friendly but can be a bit timid to start with. At present she's in a Maxi Duna tank with a 28cm wheel and doing really well. Now although they are classed as dwarf hamsters their needs are more related to Syrians, they need a 100x50cm cage and 28cm wheel. But when it comes to their food they need a dwarf diet which is low in sugar, at present Li is on a mix of Rat rations dwarf mix, little one dwarf and puur dwarf. If you would like to offer this wee girl a home then send us a message with a picture of your cage, she can be reserved up to Saturday when we close and pick up needs to be before Monday xx

Little grumpy Mattie had an early start today and was shouting at me for waking him up! This older boy is off to his lovely new home and I'm sure he will love exploring the new cage, he had a bit of a shout at me on transfer but was absolutely fine. Good luck wee man xx

Good morning. Just a wee post to let you all know today is the last day to put a hamster on a 7 day reservation. We will be closing on saturday for all adoptions (last pick up is Monday 9th) for a month but will still take animals in. There are no hamsters available in Kirkcaldy and only one in Rosyth which is brilliant. Remember when we come back in January we will no longer be accepting 80cm x 50cm cages. The general rule will be 100cm x 50cm across the board but we are willing to consider cages which fall a cm or two below that. I'm taking today off to celebrate (?) my 59 years on this earth but I'll be back on tomorrow. Have a good day ###

This gorgeous syrian boy is 7 month old Aslan, he came in a few weeks ago and has settled in brilliantly. He will need a cage of at least 100x50cm and a 28cm wheel once he's ready for rehoming xx

Today we saw an advert for this gorgeous syrian boy and contacted the owner about surrendering, he was described as very nervous and needing some extra attention. So here we have 7 month old Haggis, he's currently settling in after a very unsettled car journey. He will be moved into one of our plaza cages but for now as he is very nervous I have left him in his own cage. This wee guy is not available for reserving or adoption, we will spend the Christmas break working with him and hopefully he will be ready in the new year xx

Hello, we are Coop, Biscuit. Donny and Buster. We are ratty boys of around 6-7 months old. Sadly, we have never been handled as we have been extremely naughty and have acted skittishly around our owners. We've even bitten them a few times. They are heartbroken that we haven't gelled with them and are also worried because we aren't getting any handling despite being really friendly. We are looking for an experienced owner with the time and patience to help us change our behaviour. This is not an easy surrender, and our owners are really upset to see us go (no judgement please) but it's for the best. We are based in Glenrothes and can come with our big cage and accessories. This is a direct adoption, so we will need to be collected from this location. This is our last attempt to get these wee guys a home for Christmas, the closing date is fast approaching and we still have a few wee guys looking for homes. Each picture has a description telling u a wee bit about each hamster and what they will need, if u have a cage and would like to offer any a home then please message us. They will be well looked after here at the rescue over Christmas but we would love to find them homes and families 🤞🤞🤞

**NEW CAGE SIZES FOR ALL HAMSTERS 2025**
As from January 2025 the minimum recommended cage size for every breed of hamster will be 100cm x 50cm. We will no longer accept 80cm x 50cm cages like the Alaska, Hamster Heaven, Grosvener etc for dwarf and roborovski hamsters. We have held off for as long as possible as I personally love the Alaska but most other rescues changed over at least a year ago and I feel obliged to fall in line. I know this may well lose us a few adopters and I'm truly sorry about that but at the end of the day it's all about the animals. Hamsters have a short lifespan and its up to us as owners to ensure they have the best care possible during their time on earth. We will accept various tanks etc for gerbils, mice etc at the rescue's discretion but as far as hamsters go it's going to be 100cm x 50cm of unbroken floorspace across the board with no exceptions. I will change my instamessage and cage recommendation posts during the christmas closure ###

Anyone who follows the page will know the rescue closes each year between 7th December and 7th January and has done since i started back in 2017. Every year we have folk trying to adopt hamsters as christmas presents and I don't agree with it. Often not enough research has been done or the recipient is scared of the hamster or even allergic. We dread January/February when all rescues are inundated with surrendered unwanted furry christmas gifts. It's not everyone and I know plenty of people who research thoroughly and do it all the right way but for every one of them there are half a dozen who are looking for a last minute "low maintenance" present and I refuse to add to the problem. I'm sorry for the genuine adopters but rather than enter into any debates or arguments I choose just to close. The last date we can reserve is Monday 2nd December 2024 and the very last pick up of this year will be Monday 9th December 2024. Hope you all understand and support this decision ###
