Sorry it's been a month since I've written but it sure has been busy around here. Tiny single kittens have been arriving with some regularity. I ship them right off to Doug and Barb for fostering, but they still need a trip to the vet and some TLC before they go. Then there are the endless vet visits for updates on vaccinations, dentals, ear infections, etc. And adoptions are starting to pick up. Two of my sweet orange kittens got adopted today. I've been working on the leak in my pond with the help of Tom and Nazario, and hopefully we're going to get it put back together tomorrow with a new liner and the leak underneath patched. This is a task that's been on my list for a very long time.... Got a few photos to share....

Way too much going on in my cat world lately. Just got a call about Boots (Julius when he was here). He's in the ER getting a transfusion tonight. He could use your prayers, crossed fingers, and good thoughts. He truly is one of the nicest cats every to come through Darby's Place (and that's saying a lot).
We've got a lot of old cats succumbing to things around here. I had Connor euthanized today - aggressive sinus cancer. He was an indoor feral, but I'd had him since he was little. Born to a feral mom near St. Paul's Church. He just never tamed up.
Jimmy seems to be fading fast. He was my first feral cat - the one I learned on. It's going to be a blow when I have to say goodbye to him. For now he's getting high cal food, subq fluids, and lots of TLC. He is 15, though, and he's had a lot of bad ear infections and abscesses over the years before he decided that people weren't that bad after all.
Last night I got to leave work early then spend 3 hours helping to get a cat of mine out of a cinderblock wall. If it's not one thing it's another around here. Will post some pics, still have cats that need meds before I go to bed. Leslie

I got chided yesterday for not keeping people up to date with goings on at Darby's Place, so while I'm waiting for my dinner to bake (pizza), I'll give you an update. Church cat did eventually get to the vet. I loaned my drop trap to the people who care for her, and they got her. She stayed at the vet a few days. The hematoma on her ear is resolving - she'll end up with a crinkled ear, she got a badly needed dental, and got updated on her shots. I wish every feral had as many people caring for them as Church Cat does.
The new injured cat I mentioned in the last post is a sweet black female with an eartip. No one has claimed her. She apparently had had a broken leg some time ago that healed crookedly on her own so maybe she didn't have anyone actually caring for her. She has bright gold eyes and I named her Goldie.
Salem got adopted today! I think it looks like the perfect place for him. He has a 3 1/2 year old little boy that chose him. Had three possible adoptions that may still be pending or may have fallen through. If any of you were interested in Pumpkin, he's still here.
Having some problems with little Bernie. He is having trouble with constipation and had to have an enema on Friday! Now he's on several additives and being more closely monitored. I knew he was having some trouble, and I was having to help him go, but hadn't addressed his diet adequately. He's also got dermatitis on his ears so they're half bald, and isn't gaining enough weight. He's still at a pound and a half. Hopefully we'll get these problems worked out but for now he gets extra snuggle time and a heating pad of his own!
Of the 8 bottle babies we took in, we've lost 3 of the sweeties. It is so hard to lose those tiny ones but so hard to save them if something is wrong. With ones that young you can do everything right and still lose them. So far the remaining 5 are holding their own.
My pizza is done, I'll post a few photos and then get my dinner.
Wanted to give everyone an update on little Charlie (Judy's brother). He's doing better. The vet put him on antibiotics, changed the probiotic he was on, and put him on a different dewormer. She's not sure what's going on, but the new regimen is helping. He's still got GI issues, but they're better, and the desitin is helping his raw little butt. My new problem with him now is he is adamantly refusing to eat anything but kitten milk, (and he's big enough to be getting solid food now). Tonight was movie night and he got a lot of cuddling from Tracey and Carol so he was pretty mellow when he was playing with his new toy.
I have Brennan back again (apparently also known as Tiger). Leta trapped him 4 years ago at her farm (1/8 of a mile from me). I got him neutered, etc., but he got out and disappeared. I didn't worry too much, because he was trapped so closeby I knew he was in familiar territory, but I hadn't seen him since. I got a call Wed. because he started hanging out at a house (across from Leta's farm). They took him and had him checked for a microchip which came back registered to me. He looks good, still as friendly as ever. Posted him on the Mt. Airy Lost and Found page and called An Control to report him as found. Thursday I discovered a flyer up with his picture on it and called and emailed (3x), and no one is responding! He needs a trip to the vet, it looks like he's got beginning uveitis to me - really weird no one is calling me back. I would be frantic if this was my cat, although I did say I had him, and he was safe.
Still haven't found the owners of the eartipped cat I pulled from the Frederick Co shelter so I guess I'll have another feral in the backyard. He was trapped near the golf course on Penn Shop Road. He's talky so he's not too feral.
Have super good news about Sully and Brooke. I have a home lined up for them after Brooke's surgery later this month. Barb & Doug have a friend that fell in love with Sully from the Christmas

This Saturday, April 30th from 7 am to 3 pm is our 4th Annual Flower Sale Fundraiser to benefit Darby’s Place Cat Rescue and Animal Advocates of Carroll County. The sale is located at 2655 Deer Park Road, Finksburg, MD.
