Our town was about to see some major changes in relation to the way the local pound was run in town and we were concerned for the smaller dogs and what would happen if they could not be rehomed. We kept it to dogs as that was what we had. That was in July, 2014. We set up one
dog run with pallets and star posts. It wasn’t pretty but almost functional. We put up a tarp along the house for shelter
to the fence and a kennel. Enough to house one or two dogs maximum. One dog came in, then another, then another and before we knew it, we grew into helping dogs unofficially, no name, no plan, just helping dogs find a new home, one that will keep them safe and one that will be a Pawever home. Out of this, ideas started. Ideas to create pens or runs, ideas to save more than one dog at a time, ideas to expand. So we moved
out of town, out of Dubbo into a place that was a decent size. We started planning more, we became Best Friends Pawever Dog Rescue. We started learning about how to become efficient for the dogs. We started learning laws, processes, best practice and most of all, how best to care for the dogs that were surrendered, either to us, to the pound or being moved on via Facebook. We are open to all kinds of rescue. We look for dogs in need – and that comes in many forms. We have had 5 week old pups through to
a 15yr old dog. They are all in need of some sort. The time came to expand again as we had over 40 dogs come through our doors and back out again and we wanted to grow and develop into a well functioning group. We moved to property that would allow this and make space for the dogs in wonderful pens with an exercise area as well (still pending). This was a dream that has turned into a reality and it will continue to grow because we put our heart and soul into caring for these dogs. How can we say no to those beautiful eyes that look at us? About Us
Mel had a dream, and Best Friends Pawever is the dream turning into a reality. Mel has always loved dogs, always had dogs in her life and realised that this is her future. She works full time for now but would like to one day turn this dream into a full time goal. Mel is the leader of the pack and great with the "doing". Rach also has a passion for dogs and loves the media side of the business. Rach is great with ideas as well as ensuring communication is kept open as quickly as possible for enquiries. We currently both work full time and run the rescue. We work hard to ensure the dogs get looked after well. We ensure they have time for human interaction, basic training, toilet training for puppies, learning to trust again along with other behavioural issues. Whatever their needs, we will help as it is our passion.
