This is one of those dogs that tries to hide behind furniture when she sees me at her front door, then the instant we get in my trailer she acts like we're best friends. I'm thinking she wants to be friends but she doesn't want any of her cool friends to know about it.

From my perspective:
I'm grooming this dog. I'm giving off calm and confident energy. If a dog believes you know what you're doing they'll be cooperative and helpful. I hear something hilarious in my earbuds and laugh out loud. The dog actually looks at me and studies my face to see if I've gone insane.

From the dog's perspective:
She's being combed by a person with calm and confident energy. The only sound right now is the hum of the air conditioner. Everything is in perfect harmony. This groomer, who is a model of serenity, abruptly begins laughing. There's no one else here. The dog knows she didn't just tell a funny joke. She studies his face to look for clues. The groomer immediately reverts back to being calm and confident and the dog figures it's just another example of people doing weird stuff.

Dogs see me every day with earbuds in my ears but before today I've never wondered if dogs understand the function of earbuds.
