Hershey & Kisses
Hershey and Kisses are the last two of six gentle giants that arrived here in July of 2011. Hershey was alone for a year after brother Gumbo left. When sister Belle moved to Illinois two years ago, Kisses moved in with brother Hershey. And now Hershey is alone again. Kisses is gone. She has moved to Illinois to join her sister.
Mangey Magnificent Seven
Here are the Magnificent Seven following their vet visit. You can see the tail mutilations on some. If they could but speak to share the names of those that did this to them, such that I might show them how to properly perform a tail mutilation.
Honey Bunny01
Here we have a real sweety, Honey Bun. A 9 week old Jack Russell and Schnauzer mix, surrendered by a more civilized member of a family that wanted her to "take her up the road and dump her". I will never understand how such a thought can be so common around here. The world is full of apathy, and nobody gives a damn!
These are the Litterbugs; Herman, Haley, and Holly. Tossed to a roadside ditch like garbage and left to fend for themselves. Sadly. a fourth discovered the reason for asphalt. One man's garbage becomes another man's treasure. Pity the heartless fool that allows me to witness such an act.
Ginger and Poncho were together here for more than 3 years. No one showed them any interest. With the help of an old friend with connections, they have both been adopted. Yes, together still. Here they are with their new friend in Connecticut. Be safe and forever happy my little darlings.
Sammy getting slower.
Sammy always greets me when I enter the yard. Well, he used to, anyway.
Sugar Baby
It's just been 10 days since Sugar Baby was given 3 weeks to 3 months before her cancer would get the best of her. Monday she was still very eager to come out of her kennel and jump all over me. Tuesday she wasn't as anxious but chose to come out and just be at my side. Then she laid down in a shady spot and began breathing rapidly. I went to her side to see what was going on. Her gums were pale and I thought she was about to die. Then she got up and went to her kennel and ate and took her meds. Wednesday she was in her igloo when I brought her morning meal and meds. She managed to come out, although she staggered and fell and had trouble standing unless her head was down and pressing against something. Her back legs splayed and knuckling on her right front. She still managed to eat and take her meds. Thursday was another story. She was laying on her right side in her blood that she lost through wounds created while spasming on the concrete slab. Her left legs were extended and appeared paralyzed. I put her on her left side and cleaned her up, then held her up so she could attempt to nibble on her last meal. A few bites is all she could muster. She laid quietly beside me on the way to the vet, except for the twitching of that right rear leg. I held and hugged her tightly as death approached from across the room. I soaked her face with tears and whispered sweet nothings into her ears as death entered her. I gazed one last time into her eyes and she gave me just one last kiss. Then her twitching stopped, she let out one last breath, and I faded from her sight. And she was gone. Good-bye, my dear little Sugar Baby. Your pain is ended and mine has grown.
