🐾 The Power of Resident Dogs 🐾
Did you know that resident dogs play a huge role in helping foster dogs adjust to their new lives? 💛 These amazing pups are more than just companions—they’re teachers, guides, and sometimes even therapists for rescues who are learning what it means to be a beloved family member.
Here’s how resident dogs make a difference:
✨ Building Confidence: Foster dogs often look to resident dogs for reassurance and guidance, especially if they’ve never lived in a home before. Seeing a calm, confident dog helps them feel safe and understand that everything is okay.
✨ Teaching Manners: From learning how to walk on a leash to discovering the joy of toys, resident dogs show rescues the ropes of being a dog. 🐾
✨ Encouraging Play: Many foster dogs have never had the chance to play or socialize. A playful resident pup can gently coax them out of their shells, teaching them how to have fun!
✨ Modeling Love: By watching their furry friend soak up love and affection, foster dogs realize it’s okay to trust humans and enjoy snuggles too.
To all the resident dogs out there—thank you for being patient, kind, and the ultimate role models for our fosters. 🐕 You’re changing lives, one wag at a time!

It's National Day and We need your help finding wonderful homes for our sweet adoptees!
🐾 Meet this WONDERFUL 5-year-old girl who's ready to find her forever home! 🐾
She’s a large, lovable former breeder girl who’s already lost 5 pounds and is on her way to a healthier, more active life.
Here’s what makes her special:
✨ Housebroken – No accidents here! ✨ Cat-friendly – She gets along great with feline friends. ✨ Quiet – She doesn’t bark and is well-behaved. ✨ Dog-friendly – She enjoys the company of other dogs. ✨ Free Roam – She gets full access to the house and never causes trouble. ✨ Affectionate – She loves belly rubs and is starting to play with toys.
She’s a bit shy around men and kids at first, but she warms up quickly. She favors her foster mom, but when she is not home her foster dad can pet her for hours on the couch! She’s timid during adoption meetings, but she does get comfortable and happy she is at home.
Her only quirk? She’s terrified of leashes and isn’t ready for walks just yet. A good match for her would be someone who’s looking for a backyard buddy and doesn’t mind working with her leash anxiety. With time and patience, she might even learn to enjoy walks!
Ideal Home:
A household with a backyard where she can play.
At least two people to help lift her if needed (she’s not ready to jump into cars by herself).
Older kids or no kids – little ones might be too much for her.
She’s perfect in so many ways and is waiting for the right family to help her continue to blossom. If you or someone you know is looking for a sweet, gentle companion who just needs a little extra love and patience, please reach out! Let’s find this precious girl her forever home. 🏡💛 #AdoptDontShop #GoldenRetrieverRescue #ForeverHomeNeeded #RescueDogLove
A Bittersweet Goodbye: Saying Farewell as a New Chapter Begins
August is here—a month that signals the end of summer, the start of a new school year, and, for us at Golden Retriever Freedom Rescue, the beginning of a heartfelt farewell to two very special volunteers. Sadie and Will Perkins have welcomed hundreds of Goldens to Colorado and, as a family, they helped foster and care for more Goldens than we can count.
But this weekend marks a new chapter in their lives as they head off to college. While we’re incredibly proud of their accomplishments, our hearts ache at the thought of saying goodbye. And we’re not the only ones feeling the weight of this transition—how do you tell Rebel, their beloved GRFR rescue, who has been with them since she was just a puppy?
For Rebel, and for so many of our four-legged friends, the departure of their favorite humans can be confusing and sad. But with the right approach, we can help them adjust to this new normal.
Helping Your Dog Transition When the Kids Leave for College:
Maintain a Routine: Keep your dog’s schedule as consistent as possible with regular feeding, walking, and playtime. Familiarity will provide comfort.
Introduce New Activities: Engage your dog in new activities to distract them from the absence of their favorite person. Puzzle toys, new routes on walks, and playdates can help.
Provide Comfort: Make sure they have access to a piece of clothing or a blanket with your child’s scent. This can be incredibly soothing.
Extra Love: Give your dog plenty of affection and reassurance during this time. They’ll need to know they’re still loved and secure.
As we say goodbye to Sadie and Will, we want to express our deepest gratitude. Your dedication to the Goldens has made a world of difference, and we’re so proud of the impact you’ve had.
Thank you, Sadie and Will, for everything you’ve done. Rebel, and all of us at GRFR, will miss you dearly.

🐾 The Importance of Walks and Activities for Your Dog! 🐾
Keeping your dog active is so important for their health and happiness! Regular walks and engaging activities help them stay fit, burn off energy, and provide mental stimulation. Plus, it's a fantastic way to bond with your furry friend!
Just like Buddy, who loves exploring Wash Park! 🐕✨ Whether it's a stroll through the neighborhood, a hike in the mountains, or a visit to the local park, these adventures are great for your dog's well-being. They get to sniff around, meet other dogs, and enjoy the great outdoors.
Remember, a tired dog is a happy dog! So, grab that leash and head out for some fun. Your pup will thank you with wagging tails and lots of love! ❤️

🔥 Keep Your Dogs Cool and Safe in the Summer Heat! 🔥
As temperatures soar, it’s crucial to remember that it’s too hot for our furry friends to be outside for long periods. Here are some important safety tips to keep your Golden Retrievers and all dogs cool and safe during extreme heat:
**1. Limit Outdoor Time: Avoid outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day, typically between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Opt for early morning or late evening walks instead.
**2. Provide Plenty of Water: Ensure your dog has access to fresh, cool water at all times. Keep extra bowls around the house and yard.
**3. Never Leave Dogs in Cars: Even with the windows cracked, temperatures inside a car can quickly become deadly. Leave your dogs at home if you need to run errands.
**4. Use Cooling Products: Consider using cooling mats, vests, or bandanas to help your dog stay cool. Wetting a bandana and placing it around their neck can also help. Or just allow your Golden to relax in water feature, like GRFR Alum Sally Jo.
**5. Watch for Signs of Overheating: Symptoms of heatstroke include excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, and uncoordinated movements. If you notice these signs, move your dog to a cool place and contact your vet immediately.
**6. Avoid Hot Pavement: Hot pavement can burn your dog’s paws. Test the ground with the back of your hand – if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them. Walk on grass or use protective booties.
**7. Provide Indoor Activities: Keep your dog entertained indoors with toys, puzzles, and games. A frozen treat or a peanut butter-filled Kong can keep them busy and cool.
**8. Air Conditioning and Fans: If your home has air conditioning, make sure your dog can access the cool air. Fans can also help circulate air and keep them comfortable.
Your dog’s safety and well-being are our top priority. Let’s ensure they stay cool and comfortable during these hot summer months!

💙💕The first night in a foster home 🏠 Meet Miss. T- this delightful Golden girl arrived in Colorado this afternoon and will soon be looking for her forever home. Most of the Goldens we rescue have never been inside a home. When they are picked up their lives are a whirlwind of change. From riding in the car 🚗 for the first time, walking on a leash, taking a bath 🛁, walking on hardwood floors, hearing a toilet 🚽 flush, a TV 📺, you name it- these dogs are overwhelmingly experiencing so many firsts when they arrive. Tonight, this sweet lady is clean, comfy and cozy in her foster home… and she‘s fighting back the sleep 💤 but we think it’s going to get the best of her 🤣 Sleep 🛌 tight Miss T. It will all be here tomorrow when you wake up! #goldenretrieverfreedomrescue
Just a few rescue puppies, kicking at their foster home!
