So many memories have popped up in timelines recently about Bailee. It will always sadden my that she is no longer with us as it would with any of my babies, but I hope we all can find peace knowing we rescued a dog and provided a loving home no matter how long they are in our life. Bailee's journey brought thousands of strangers together from across many states. I made friends for life during the crazy time I spent searching for her on the Kernstown Battlefield Association in VA. Leave it to my Scooby and Porgy to be the right bait. I need to do another recap of all the fun soon as a reminder of that there are so many ways people can help if only you will be in tune to what is needed. Sometimes, you might just need to drive a trap from point A to point B or make phone calls. Ask your local rescue groups to put you on any lists they have asking for help. Then, help when you can. Not all help is fostering, fundraising, or donating.
The next dog I rescued after Bailee I named Virginia-Lee. I called her Nia for short. Nia reminded me of Bailee, and I wanted to rescue her in Bailee's memory. Since I had spent so much time in Virginia searching for Bailee after she had gotten loose from transport, that's where the Virginia came from. The Lee was from the end of BaiLEE. Nia turned out to be one of the best girls. I pulled her from the Trumann Arkansas Pet Savers right as she was to be euthanized. Now, she is spoiled in a wonderful home up north. Lucky family got her, right? I'm sure she'll read this and chime in.
Rescue becomes overwhelming. You can't allow it to become your whole life. There must be a balance. With so many dogs in need, we can't save them all. Trying to by stockpiling them at your house or in a facility and not being able to care for them is not humane and certainly not rescue. Until we have stricter laws, dogs will unfortunately be euthanized all across the southern states. I'm blessed by each one I save.
Bailee-Girl's spirit lives on with so many of us and a bond was formed that will never be broken. Those weeks in VA were stressful; crazy; fun; exhausting; interesting; hot; frustrating; goofy; educational; heartwarming; heartbreaking; and whatever other emotions you can think of. Feel free to post any pics to celebrate her life.
Belly rubs for you, Bailee. I love you, my girl.
