Sadly I have to write this post, becoming a statistic to this devastating virus within our hobby. My main objective is awareness to those that have my lines in their collection. You need to test your collection.
None of my lizards presented symptoms, but after feed back from someone who had one of my lizards test positive (also with no symptoms), I tested 3 seperate enclosures. Two came back positive and one negative. I have now tested every enclosure and am currently waiting the results.
It saddens myself, family and especially my young children with the thought of possibly having to euthanize our entire collection of pets and start over to once again be apart of supplying dragons to the hobby and enjoying expo's etc, OR keep a closed collection and let them live out their lives without us being part of the hobby.
We have never supplied lizards with any awareness of this virus in our collection.
There is no accurate literature of how, where or when the virus originated to my knowledge and I don't blame anyone for its existence or anyone that may have supplied me lizards with it unknowingly.
Apparently it has been around at least 10 years but testing is now readily available.
I am hoping this post creates more awareness with in the hobby to test and help minimise the spread of the virus.
There are wispers with in the hobby but no one is putting their hand up to admit they have it or discuss. This is a positive post on a negative topic. Please keep comments constructive to educate others, NOT BLAME OR ATTACK.
