Pittsburgh CAT is the adoption arm of Homeless Cat Management Team. This group started as an informal page dedicated to helping friendly stray cats and kittens found by HCMT volunteers doin

g Trap-Neuter-Return. Volunteers spend countless hours helping to save adoptable cats from the streets of Pittsburgh and surrounding communities. We do not have a shelter so we rely on people to open up a space in their homes to foster these cats while they wait for their forever homes. This page was formed to help facilitate adoptions for the cats in foster care. All of our cats and kittens will go to their forever homes spayed/neutered, given age appropriate shots, treated for fleas, ear mites and worms, microchipped and tested for FeLV/FIV. Donations can be made via VENMO: or PAYPAL: [email protected]

We generally do not take owner surrendered animals. We focus on the cats that the shelters will not help.

Meet Pacino! This friend came to us after his caretakers discovered he had the potential to be an indoor cat! He is about 3-4 years old and full of sweetness and love. Pacino has been learning all about the benefits of an indoor home and is doing great! He loves cat trees, window watching and regular meals! Pacino also adores his kitty friends- particularly his best bud in foster Oliver!! Pacino does great with his canine foster brother also. Pacino is still learning and gains self confidence every day. He is a skittish boy and will likely be nervous in a new setting. Potential adopters should expect to be patient to allow him to have time to be his best self! Because he can be a bit skittish at times we do not recommend a home with younger kiddos!

During his time outside Pacino contracted FIV- feline immunodeficiency virus. This means that he has a slightly weaker immune system. FIV+ cats can and do live long, healthy lives in low-stress homes. FIV kitties can live happily in a stable household with other kitties; FIV is not spread through normal, casual contact. FIV only affects cats, not dogs or humans.

Pacino is neutered, microchipped, dewormed, flea-treated, tested for FIV/FeLV, and up-to-date on all of his vaccinations. He is a really nice boy who deserves a loving home! If that could be with you, apply to adopt him today!

Steely Dan, or Steely for short, is a big, chill, loving lug of a guy. He’s about 3 years old. Steely is a pretty chill guy and can usually be found lounging on his favorite love seat, snuggling with the other cat in the house, or sitting on his foster dad’s lap. He loves to be petted and brushed and purrs a lot. As an easy-going guy, he doesn’t care about toys that much, but he does love a good kicker toy, and he adores his catnip!

Steely started showing up sporadically in an outdoor colony in the summer of 2024, and in December, willingly waddled his way into the caretaker’s home (and heart). Steely already responds to his name, and to the sound of cans being opened and dry food being poured; he is definitely a food-motivated fellow!

He got along with the other colony cats and is best buds with his new indoor companion cat, so he would probably like a cat friend in his new home. He likes to play with the other cat and sometimes even wrestle a bit. Steely would be fine with a calm dog that isn’t in his face too much. We are recommending Steely be placed in a home with older children or adults as he appears to thrive in a mellow, quieter atmosphere.

Steely does have FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus), which means that he has a slightly weaker immune system. FIV+ cats can live long, healthy lives in low-stress homes! FIV cats can also live happily in a stable household with other kitties; FIV is not spread through normal casual contact. FIV only affects cats, not dogs or humans. Pittsburgh CAT adoption counselors can answer any questions you have about FIV+ cats!

He is neutered, microchipped, dewormed, flea-treated, tested for FeLV, and up-to-date on all of his vaccinations. If you're interested in meeting this snuggly, easy-going sweetheart, fill out the application!

Queenie is a beautiful brown tabby about two years old. She's a very easy-going girl who likes to play with all cat toys -- but most of all she likes to entertain herself by playing with her tail! She has some very lively wrestling matches with her tail, and it's quite entertaining!

Although Queenie is now living the life of a queen in her foster home, her life before coming to Pittsburgh CAT was not so easy. She was found living in a woodpile with her litter of kittens. Her kittens have moved on with their lives and Queenie is now ready to begin her life as a pampered pet. She is very comfortable in a home and with people so it's fair to say she was likely someone's pet before she ended up in that woodpile. Queenie can be easily picked up and held, and, while not a lap cat, she is very affectionate! She loves being petted and will push her head into your hand to get some pets. An awesome companion cat, Queenie loves to lay next to you and keep you company while you read, scroll, or watch TV!

Queenie gets along with other easy-going cats, cat-friendly dogs and respectful children of any age. However, she is an independent girl who would also be OK as the sole queen in your household.

In the market for a loving, sweet, playful girl? She's ready to become the queen in your home!!

SPAY YOUR PETS!!!
On Tuesday evening when the temps were bitter cold, a Good Samaritan found this little lady crying outside her home. She tried to get her into a carrier but she was just too nervous, so to keep everyone safe she trapped her and got her inside to warm up and we picked her up on Wednesday. She was super friendly and seemed to be in good health. Knowing that she was likely not spayed, we made an appointment for her to be spayed on Sunday (today).

Over the next couple days, we noticed her belly was a bit big and worried she may be pregnant. However today when she went to be spayed, we found it was much worse -- she had a “Pyometra” which is an infection in the uterus.

To make matters worse she had a “closed pyometra” vs an “open pyometra”. With an open pyo the infection/pus can make its way out of her body and will look like discharge. (Note that this is still very risky and needs urgent medical care.) With a closed pyometra, the infection and pus have no way to leave the uterus, so it just builds and builds in the uterus until it ruptures -- and that’s exactly what happened to this sweet girl. When they opened her up, she was quite a mess! They found her uterus had ruptured, which then means the infection was spilling into her abdominal cavity (this can be fatal). Her abdomen had to be flushed with over 1 liter of sterile fluid to clear out the infection as best as possible. Thankfully, Juliet made it through the surgery and is looking pretty good right now. She is on IV Antibiotics and will be closely monitored over the next several days.

This is WHY it is SO VERY IMPORTANT to spay your cats!! This cat absolutely would have suffered a horrible death had she not received medical care today. If you’d like to donate towards Juliet’s care you can donate via Venmo or PayPal [email protected]

In a quiet neighborhood, wo kittens—Frasier and Niles—found each other after being lost and alone outside. Frasier, the older of the two, is a confident and affectionate black kitten who loves the company of humans. He easily adapts to new situations, often curling up in laps or seeking out gentle pets. On the other hand, Niles, a small worried-faced tabby, is a timid little fellow who is still warming up to the idea of being around people. His trust in others is a work in progress, but his bond with Frasier is undeniable. The two quickly became inseparable, with Niles following Frasier everywhere he goes.

Niles looks up to Frasier as a role model, mirroring his every move. When Frasier explored new corners of their foster home, Niles was right behind him, curious yet cautious. Though he still struggles with being touched, Niles finds comfort in Frasier’s presence. Surprisingly, he allows people to pet him while he’s eating, but only if Frasier is beside him, enjoying his meal too. This little act shows how much Niles relies on his older friend for reassurance as he navigates his fears.

The bond between Frasier and Niles is heartwarming, as they balance each other out perfectly. Frasier’s loving nature encourages Niles to take small steps toward becoming more social, while Niles brings a sense of purpose to Frasier’s life. Together, they are a duo that is not only adorable but also a reminder of the importance of companionship. They need to be adopted together, as their shared journey will help Niles continue to grow and thrive, with Frasier by his side every step of the way.

Frasier & Niles are great with other cats and should be fine with respectful older kids. They are neutered, microchipped, dewormed, flea-treated, tested for FIV/FeLV, and up-to-date on all of their vaccinations. Now all they need is a forever home!

Meet Ouna, a playful and spirited girl seeking a patient adopter to help her blossom! This former semi-feral cat has made great strides in trust, but still needs time to decompress and come out of her shell. Ouna is very playful and entertaining and will make you laugh with her antics! She loves catnip, her mousey, and Temptations treats. While she enjoys attention on her terms, she will scoot away when she's had enough, gently letting you know she's setting that boundary.

She's looking for a calm and peaceful home where she can snooze in the sun, entertain herself, and enjoy human affection when she wants it. Despite her life outside, she has perfect litterbox habits and uses her scratchers diligently! She would be the perfect companion for someone who wants a fun friend who makes them laugh but doesn't need constant attention.

Ouna is a solo act and requires a quiet home without other cats and dogs. She would be fine with older kids who understand gentle respect! Her cloudy eye has been checked and doesn't affect her vision.

She is spayed, microchipped, dewormed, flea-treated, tested for FIV/FeLV, and up-to-date on all of her vaccinations. If you're ready to offer a serene space for Ouna to shine, apply to adopt this sun-loving, playful companion today!

Donations needed for sweet Flounder! Flounder has been dealing with on and off diarrhea, weight loss, and an overall feeling of blah. After trying multiple things, we decided that he needed an ultrasound and referred him to Safe Haven. Today was his appointment. They found his spleen to be greatly enlarged, so an aspirate of the spleen was performed and we are hoping to get answers. The total today was just over $800. Any donation will help! You can donate via Venmo or PayPal [email protected]

As always - Thank you for your support!

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! Are you looking for love?!? Meet Clarita! This beautiful girl is just under a year old and she is hoping to find her forever home soon.

Clarita came to us from a home that had over 20 cats in it, she was surprisingly in great shape and super friendly! She is a bit shy at first, but quite affectionate once she feels confident. She doesn’t particularly enjoy being carried around, but is fine with being picked up and would love to curl up next to you on the couch! Clairita LOVES catnip, Temptations and playing with crinkle balls.

Clarita gets along with other respectful cats, but would probably love to be the only kitty in your life! As for dogs, we aren’t really sure, but she can be startled by loud noises so we think that her ideal home would be dog free. Respectful children over the age of 7 would be fine as long as they know that she will be a bit shy at first and are willing to be patient with her.

She is spayed, microchipped, dewormed, flea-treated, tested for FIV/FeLV, and up-to-date on all of her vaccinations. Will you be her Valentine? Apply for her today!

🎵 Her name is Lola, she is a showgirl, with a personality so fair and little swirls in her hair. 🎵 Do you need a beautiful “cat’s cat?” Beautiful Lola absolutely loves other cats and will even follow dogs around looking for love in all the right places. She is 5 months old and a lovely brown tabby.

Lola is shy, but once she warms up to you, she will follow you around, sleep on the end of your bed, and occasionally visit you for pets and scritches. She’s not a fan of being picked up or chased, but does warm up and enjoy petting. Her shy nature also means that she has excellent manners.

Lola is fine with other cats and with dogs but would prefer a quieter home without children. She is spayed, microchipped, dewormed, flea-treated, tested for FIV/FeLV, and up-to-date on all of her vaccinations. If you’re looking for a companion for your other kitty or want a friendly, loving babe who isn’t always on top of you, Lola is your girl!

P.S. Check out Lola playing in her box!

Meet Ashley! Ashley is an incredibly sweet cat. She loves to be brushed and will sit with you for hours. She can be playful at times, but this lovely lady is really hoping to find a nice home with a comfy couch and window with lots of sunshine! She loves temptation treats and really enjoys her canned food! She also LOVES to sleep on a heated bed! While Ashley loves attention, she would be fine home alone while you’re at work, she’s a very laid back lady.

Ashley had a bit of a rough life, living outside. One day her caretaker visited Ashley, and her head was turned completely sideways! She knew Ashley needed help that she wasn’t able to provide, but thankfully we were able to take her in and get her the medical care she needed. Ashley tested positive for Toxoplasmosis, which can cause neurological symptoms (such as the head tilt). Ashley was successfully treated for toxo and was doing great, but unfortunately she started to have seizures. A couple more vet visits and Ashley was started on an anti seizure medicine that she gets twice a day - and she is doing AMAZING!

Ashley is approximately 10-12 years old. She gets her medication two times a day and she is very easy to pill. She is currently in foster with other cats and does fine with them; she doesn’t seem to love super energetic kittens, but she wouldn’t mind sharing her home with another respectful and laid back cat. Ashley would prefer a home without dogs. She would be fine with respectful kids over the age of 10.

She is spayed, microchipped, dewormed, flea-treated, tested for FIV/FeLV, and up-to-date on all of her vaccinations. Now all she needs is a loving forever home!

Rescues like ours are seeing posts from people finding hypothermic animals right now, so here is some information on what to do if you find a cat in bad condition.

DO NOT attempt to warm them up too quickly, as this can cause shock.

Gently move them to a warm, dry place.

Wrap them in a towel or blanket to provide gentle warmth and seek immediate veterinary attention.

Spotted: Kitty living by himself on a local street corner for many months, in need of some help. Meet Humphrey, our ”lonely boy” kitty for all of the Gossip Girl fans! Humphrey is a chill cat who enjoys his cat tree, window watching, treats and wet food. He is not a huge snuggler but has been learning that pets and headbuts are amazing! He is great company and his confidence improves daily!

Humphrey is 3-4 years old, and after all that he saw on his days on the street, he is now is looking to settle into a quiet home where he can gossip with a new family! Humphrey doesn't mind the company of other cats, but because fast movements and loud sounds scare him, he prefers to live in a home without children or dogs.

Humphrey also has FIV, or feline immunodeficiency virus, which means that he has a slightly weaker immune system. FIV+ cats can live long, healthy lives in low-stress homes! FIV cats can live happily in a stable household with other kitties; FIV is not spread through normal casual contact, and only affects cats, not dogs or humans.

Humphrey is neutered, microchipped, dewormed, flea-treated, tested for FeLV, and up-to-date on all of his vaccinations. He is a healthy, good boy who is ready to settle in to a pampered lifestyle. Apply to meet him today!
