Opie
Opie the pug found a home! And what a home it is! He went from being a gangster on the streets of Riverside to the lap of luxury and more toys than he could ever have dreamed of.
Well Willie is still with us! Let’s be honest. Most folks aren’t interested in him because he has what some would say “a face only a mother could love” well that doesn’t change the fact that he’s still an awesome horse! And needs that mom or dad who will love that cute big face! The beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Help us find this cool guy a home! Here’s a video of him playing around the obstacles. Please share!
Willie is now available! Estimated to be 17yr ols 14.3 hh TWH gelding! Willie came to us after a concerned follower asked if we could take him. He had been locked in a stall for 3 years at a boarding facility and never even let out. He’s has put on a lot of weight and needs a lot more muscle! He has been rode on the Norco streets and has done well, but can sometimes be spooky, but hasn’t done anything more than a spook, a foot or two left or right. He has not offered to buck, rear, or kick. He has not been rode out alone only in a group and we think he would probably do best in a group. Willie is a sweet heart! He ties, clips, trailers, saddles. He sometimes can be pushy on the ground so he will need someone to remind him that, that isn’t aloud. Willie is UTD with Vaccines, Teeth and Feet! He’s barefoot and doing great that way! Willie would probably do best with an intermediate to advanced rider as he is forward moving. He has had a 30day refresher, but could probably use another and many miles! Willie will go with a rescue contract and with an adoption fee $1000 if interested please email or message the rescue page so we can get you a application!
Seriously....One of the best dogs ever! She sure is a cute old lady. Making a bucket list for her! Blessed to be around her in the days of her life. She’s the sweetest dog! And we just can’t understand why anyone would just drop her off at the Downey animal shelter. We hope to take her to the beach, and IN N OUT soon! Anyone have any other ideas of something they think an old dog would love to do?
Sprinkles had a visitor today😁 thank you Heather for bringing Emi to come spend some time with Sprinkles!
It takes a special person to adopt a horse in his elder years, with no teeth, requiring a special feeding program to sustain himself. We are so excited to announce that Diesel will be going to his new home tomorrow. These are a portion of his special feeding instructions I have to upload to share so bear with me. I hate my voice on these.
Diesel has been a horse I’m most proud of because of his condition coming in and how great he’s done recovering and gaining weight and feeling so good. Never in a million years did I think a person would come for him. But she did and I am ever so grateful for that. Rescue can be deeply depressing because we just can’t save them all and we see the worst in humanity. But it can also be deeply rewarding where we see the most amazing, giving and unselfish people. Join us in congratulating Diesel in this next step in his life.
Jehu is working on trailer loading. He’s really a cool little horse. Jehu is a yearling recently gelded. He’s about 13hh haven’t got an exact measurement yet. He should mature to about 14.2-14.3, We expect him to be a stout horse! He’s very sweet! Still working on ground manners, but overall very level headed young man. He picks up his feet, but will need a farrier who is patient with the babies. He loads in the trailer, he ties, loves his bath!!! He is very curious! He walks over bridge, and ground poles, and will play with just about anything left in the turn out. He will pick up a whip, and try to lunge the other horses 😂 His adoption fee is set at $800 he is UTD on all vaccinations, and just had his feet trimmed. If interested in this goofy little gelding, please message the rescue page!
This happened today!!! Reese got her first ride, so glad we took our time, non eventful, Relaxed first ride! Julie says that she’s “smooth like butter.” If interested get your apps in! Reese will need an experienced person or someone willing to work with a trainer, as she is a sensitive mare. We are so excited for her future, and to see this gorgeous once skinny, dumped at auction mare. Blossom into what she has become today! She will only go to the best home! To the right person for her! Please send a message if you have any questions.
Boys will be boys 😂 Heres Jehu playing (attacking) poor Ted. Jehu will be up for adoption as soon as he is done healing from castration. If interested please contact us through the rescue page.
Look at Champagne, She’s so fancy! Makes our heart happy! To see them feeling good!
It wasn't a popular move, but in 2014 we rescued a stud and a pregnant mare. We were told that other rescues were called but none would help. Their owner had died and the family couldn't care for them. Animal control and the humane society were involved as well as the sheriff. Their neighbor was trying to kill the horses and had attempted a break into the property the night before we arrived. It took several people hours to extricate them from a pit.
Fast forward to the night Hondo was picked up by the Army. A movement in the arena caught the eye of the army trainer. Indeed it was Mr Lowell, the last of the personal horses bred by Lowell Hankins of famed King-P234, foundation to the quarter horse breed.
Mr Lowell has recovered from many obstacles to come back to what you see in this video which exemplifies the benefit of patience and allowing a horse, broken of mind and body, the time to come back to himself.
Luke Castro will be working with him, to help him be all that he can be, in the hopes that he will go on to represent our rescue in the next round of "auditions". Because this was a parade horse, we feel that he will fit right in.
We have been working for some time to consolidate our horses to one or two ranches. Right now we are spread out over five. It is very hard to manage the horses that way. Luckily one ranch is right next door to the home ranch, so that's easy. We have an opportunity to have the horses at the home ranch, the sanctuary ranch next door and the training ranch down the street. Three ranches which enables us to be more effective and more efficient.
Sometimes horses come to us broken in body. We see horses that were crippled by farriers, neglect, hard use, injury or starvation. But sometimes we have horses that are broken in mind. Mushu is such a horse. He is 17.2 hands of extremely terrified horse. We attempted to move him unsuccessfully and we are making another attempt and have been working to desensitize him. He is horrifically herd bound and barn sour. We've had a few like this and I seriously thought horses and people would be killed.
I can not express how terrifying it is to see a horse that has no sense of self preservation panic to the point of potentially injuring themselves and everyone in their vicinity. It is suffering the same as a physical pain. It is the pain of the mind, soul and heart.
So we will be attempting to move Mushu and I'm asking for your prayers and kind thoughts. We will have our veterinarian on standby with a backup vet as well, in the event of an accident. We have taken every precaution to ensure a safe stall and a buddy horse. We are doing everything we can to keep him safe.
There are two more things we could do. We could use a 24 foot long, six foot high gate panel to secure him in the event he considers jumping or putting a leg through. Additionally, tomorrow we have a horse healer in town that we have used 3 times and each time it has absolutely saved the life of the horse. Her rate is $160 for the session and she does have an opening as I write this. If you can help with the healer or the panel donations can be made via PayPal at one
Wall-E clips and ties. Luke Castro is hoping he can take him to the river on this hot day. I can't believe how far he has come not only in his weight and health but in his training.
We have had Wall-E just about a year and the majority of that time has been getting his weight right. Now we are working on his training to be sure we can match him to the right home. Wall-E has continued to move forward and improved consistently. That's all we can ask.
Right now he is eligible for adoption to an experienced home for a small adult or a very experienced child with a trainer and working with adults.
