The twins cuddle but neither of them ever look particularly happy about it lol
Poppy was a 16 week old feral kitten who was adopted by me. This page is about her and her foster ca
Poppy came to me to foster after being found as an older unsocial stray. She now lives here with her 4 cat siblings, Acorn, Luna, Louis and Fleur (All former fosters) and a noisy cockatiel called Toby and a very musical canary called Winston . This page follows not just Poppy and her household but the many many foster kittens and cats that make their way into and out of, our home. If you live in t
he Christchurch area and see a foster kitten or cat you would like to meet please email adoptions.catrescue.org.nz to ask about adopting from us.

11 years as my cat and I never knew Poppy had a heart on her foot 😍
😅
This is why you can never leave drawers open, Poppy digs a wee ditch in the clothes then lies down in it. 🤣
Everything is now covered in fur 😺
When Acorn was a tiny baby, about 5 weeks old he began to climb up onto my shoulder to sit and snuggle or just look around. For the whole of his 13 years, this never stopped, even though he was a very large cat and a hefty 6kgs! He never asked either, he would just launch himself at me and I had to try and catch him! lol
Fleur has the strangest way of making biscuits. Her back legs have to be sticking forward. It's very cute 😍
Sometimes Louis and Fleur wake me up in the middle of the night going from cuddling and licking to bapping the heck out of each other 😅
It's been so hot here in Aotearoa New Zealand the last week, but Fleur is determined to sleep on a warm blanket in the nest. Her compromise to keep herself cool makes her look like she's just a pile of spare kitty parts 🤣
Louis is always so dignified 😅
Poppy loves to dig. She digs holes outside and rolls in the dirt like a dog, she digs in the laundry basket, in my clothes drawers when they are open, she even dogs in her water bowl.
The other evening she decided some festive digging in tinsel was a great idea, though I did have to stop her when she started ripping bits off 😂
"Wow, you're so messy Katie, I mean why do you have random packing paper right in the middle of your bedroom floor?"
Because cats. 😅
Louis favourite thing is his wormy toy in his stupid packing paper that I can't remove because he will cry for it.
This netting fell off a plant I was growing and Poppy thinks it's the best hiding place in the world, she can see everything but somehow no one can see her... 😅😆
It's been a bit of a scary week, last Wednesday when I got home I could see Poppy had had a fight with Louis (her fur was everywhere) and she seemed to have lost all strength in her hind legs. I rushed her to the vets and they gave her a thorough check over. First they wondered if she was developing clots, Poppy has a heart murmur caused by Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy so it can happen, but that was quickly ruled out. She didn't seem to be in any pain, no temp, no bites we could find. So she was put on antibiotics and anti-inflammatories and sent home to see if she got better.
Her weakness was quite similar to neurological issues but had come on so suddenly it didn't seem likely.
She has gotten a lot better, she can walk normally, jump small heights and seems very content.
The hard part is Poppy loves to be up high so I have had to create steps for her to get up, she has taken to them so quickly and even asks me to lift her into her high nest when she doesn't want to climb. So now it's just a matter of watching her carefully and hoping she gains her strength back fully.
Strangely enough she has seemed much more relaxed and happy, playing and coming for cuddles even when Louis is nearby. I'm wondering if she's liking all the extra attention she's been getting from me lol
Spring showers make for unhappy kitties lol
Five minutes ago they were fighting now this...typical siblings
I have no idea why but all of the cats react to bungee cords like they are covered in catnip. I had to throw one away because they had rubbed on it so much it was falling apart!
What weird objects do your cats love?
Today it is one year since I lost my Acorn. I still feel raw with grief, everything seems a bit duller, a bit greyer without him in the world.
As you know I've lost a lot of animals goodbyes are sadly something I know well but his goodbye was still the single most painful moment of my life.
I miss you with all my heart my beautiful baby boy. ❤️
The cats are adoring the spring sunshine we have been having lately, Luna loves soaking up the rays with her curly tummy 😅
Downside is we are getting pregnant female cats coming into the rescue already! In fact it's been so mild this winter we even had a baby kitten (just one) born in August, the coldest month of the year!
Climate change is definitely effecting how cats are breeding.
Look at this, those 2 big kitties at the back are our former ringworm babies Tormund and Ygritte! They were adopted together as they were so closely bonded and they have a baby sister they adore.
I'm so happy because it was difficult to find a home that would give them the time they needed to settle in and take both.
Don't you love happy endings! ❤️
Sadly wee Ulfies adoption fell through but he's in a new foster home and absolutely loving it!
He looks so happy and you can really see his stunning green eyes!
Anyone would be so lucky to have such a cuddly happy boy.
Hi everyone, I know I've been a bit absent from the page lately. The last year has been intense, a lot of stress and sadness and my mental health has taken a pretty big hit. This has made it hard for me to cope with just day to day life so anything extra gor put on the back burner.
Ulfrid and Lavender were all cleared of ringworm a few weeks ago. Lavender was adopted almost as soon as she was desexed, she went to a bustling home full of other animals and has a new doggy best friend. Ulfie has found it a bit harder being older and a little shy but fingers crossed he may be getting adopted this Wednesday! I miss his sweet cuddles and tummy rubs a lot!
Here's there adoption photoshoot pictures. I don't know how anyone can resist Ulfies pensive little face but maybe I'm a bit biased lol
Best toy in the world?
Trousers with ties on them apparently 🤣
Ulfrid and Lavender being very sweet and snuggling up for a cuddle.
Still her favourite weird place to sleep on me 🤷😂
Finally a few minutes break from dashing around chasing each other 😄
Of all the places Poppy could sleep she chooses a rubbish bin 🤦
Trying to get a video of how Lavender insists on trying to sleep on my knee (even though she always rolls off) and I think Ulfrid got a bit jealous lol
Ulfrid loves everything, he's the kind of kitten that plays with anything but he's particularly fond of a tiny soccer ball I won in an arcade. His leaps and jumps look hilarious since he's reached that long legged lanky stage 🤣
He's like a noodle, all long and floppy, and Lavender is like a potato, all round and fat 😅 They make a ridiculously comical pair.
Lavender has learnt how to arch her back...at everything 😅
The arched back and sideways crab walking they do is probably my most favourite part of kittens development. It's hilarious when you have a whole litter all doing it to each other. 🤣

We've had this tunnel for years, but apparently when it's outside it way more fun. The wind was blowing it around so Luna dived into it to subdue it then fell asleep 😂 #catsofinstagram #tabbycat #adoptdontshop #torbiecats #fluffycatsofinstagram #luna

Meet our newest little Ringworm friend Lavender. She is only about 6 weeks old and a tiny 500gms. Even at that size she's got oodles of Tortitude going on! Ulfrid loves her but they can only have supervised time together because he doesn't realise she's only a quarter of him and he gets a bit rough. He's so much happier with a friend though.
My Wildlings, Tormund and Ygritte were cleared of ringworm and went off to their new foster homes this week. Ulfrid is doing ok but he's a bit lonely. They mostly ignored him but it was still company. Now he can't decide if he wants to play or have Tummy Tickles. I've never met a cat that loves his tummy rubs so much lol
Guess who came to me and asked for attention and then PURRED! Wee Ygritte finally decided getting pets is nice. Tormund is still 50/50, he lets me touch him but will hiss at me at the drop of a hat. 😅
I'm in hospital again so Grandma is taking care of everyone. Apparently the wildlings are doing pretty well and not hiding from her which is great! They are getting so much better though Tormund still likes to hiss at me in the mornings, and Ygritte still flinches like I'm going to beat her 🙄 but they come to me for treats, that's a big step forwards and they love to play!
On Thursday I was in the area so popped into see RayRay at pet central. He seemed a bit sad, it was his first time being on his own, so I stayed for quite a while playing with him and giving him cuddles. He definitely recognised me once I started talking to him. He's such a sweet boy. I was delighted to find out he was adopted the very next day ❤️
My Little Wildlings, now called Tormund and Ygritte are doing better. They aren't heavily food motivated which has made bribing them difficult, but they are play motivated so toys get the relaxing. Yesterday I was able to stroke them on their heads and backs. Tormy hissed a lot (His nickname is Hisstopher) but closed his eyes and enjoyed it. Ygritte, aka Drama Llama thinks my hands are made of acid. I've never patted a cat with it's ears so flat they were non existent 😅 but I decided to let them out of the crate. I feel they werent getting more social in there. So they are free in the room, they will hide from me of course but they will respond better getting the choice of interacting with me. (Some unsocial kittens do great in the crates, others need more space.) #fosterkittens #ringwormsucksbutistotallytreatable #hissesnotkisses #wildlings #cat_rescue_christchurch
The Targaryen Kittens were cleared of their ringworm and have gone off to be desexed and head to new foster homes. And these two... spicy babies turned up. As you can imagine it's quite a contrast from over affectionate Rhaenyra to this! 😅
