A riding master was teaching one of his students about emotional mastery:

“A fight is going on inside me,” the master said to a student.

“It is a serious fight and it is between two stallions:

🐴 One is feeling bad—he feels furious, frustrated, anxious, upset, disappointed, ashamed, offended, embarrassed, inadequate, and unworthy.

🦄 The other is feeling good—he feels curious, compassionate, creative, confident, courageous, committed, constructive, cool, calm, and collected.

The same fight is going on inside you–and inside every other person, too....."

The student thought about it for a minute, and then asked the riding master:

“Which stallion will win?”

The riding master simply replied:

“The one you feed.”

The student realized it all comes down to a choice.

Every day, we face that same choice.

😊 Why one instructor thrives while another struggles 😖

On a beautiful day, 14 years ago, two young women got certified as instructors.

They were very much alike:

✨ Both were the same age and at the same level.
✨ Both had similar types of horses.
✨ Both did well in the instructor program.
✨ Both were filled with ambitious dreams for the future.

Riding a 'stormy' horse that is hard in the mouth is not easy.

It can be tempting to try and correct this horse with the reins.

There are a lot of webshops online where you can buy special bits and gadgets to “cure” mouth problems.

I highly recommend to not buy them… and to always keep in mind:

💚 Your horse does not WANT to pull on the reins.

💚 Your horse does not WANT to take the bit on one side.

💚 Your horse does not WANT to behave badly.

💚 Your horse does not WANT to be a problem.

Stiff horses improve dramatically when we take their natural asymmetry into account.

You see, the mouth is the barometer of the horse:

🌡️ A horse that is stiff in the mouth is stiff in the muscles.
🌡️ A horse that feels uneven in the mouth is uneven in the body.
🌡️ A horse that is hard in the mouth has hard back muscles.

Now, if we'd like the weather ⛈️ to change, it doesn't help to change the barometer 🌡️, right?

Therefore, special bits and reins won't change a stormy horse.

So if we want to change the way the mouth feels 🌡️, the horse's body needs to change ️⛈️ →️ ☀️.

Only with a training method that addresses their stiff muscles, they can actually start to relax the back muscles, drop the head and neck, and move towards the hand. And with a lower head and neck … they can start to relax and not be so stiff or stressed out all the time.

To achieve this, I have developed an empowering training formula. It helps horses relax in body and mind, without any correction bits, side reins, or controlling tack. Instead, I KNOW that rider and horse have to be on the same side.

Check out Maestro's birthday party in our garden! 🌺

The fields are currently closed because we've reseeded them with grass.

That means the birthday party took place in the garden.

All the animals had a great time.

The horses:🐴 Romanesque, 🐴Toronto, 🐴Prince Elmelund.

The dogs: 🐕 Wolfee, 🐶 Coddi, and 🐺 Ruby.

So it was a lovely afternoon with everyone together.

Maestro came into my life when he was 7.

He is now 30 years old!

I've learned a lot from him.

And I'd like to pass these valuable lessons on to you, so you can benefit from them too!

Let’s talk about Mary, who has been overwhelmed for the last four months.

She’s an instructor and runs her own teaching practice 🎠.

But, she’s always so busy.

There’s never enough hours in a day.

She's always rushing around.

So her job as an instructor started to feel like a burden.

And she couldn’t distance herself.

It got to a point where even talking about work started to stress her out.

One day, Mary reads about a free challenge 🎟️:

"We help you look at obstacles differently."

"We help you create distance between you and your problems.”

"We help you see things from a new angle.”

It really caught Mary's attention.

So, she decided to give it a try and signed up.

The next thing she knows, she's on a special flying adventure 🚀.

Mary finds out they're flying to a plateau about 39 kilometers high.

During the journey, they ask about her situation.

They ask what’s really important to her.

For Mary, her job has always been at the top of her list.

Her job comes first for her.

Then the machine lands on a large platform.

From there, Mary can see the Earth below 🌍.

They use a special beam to point out her job.

Then, they ask Mary to show how big her job seems from this view.

"So small," she says, bringing her thumb and forefinger close together.

"Stay like that," a friendly lady asks.

And they take a photo of Mary.

The photo shows Mary how small her job looks when she steps back from it.

Mary takes a deep sigh, amazed by how simple it can be:

When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change 👀.

On their way back, Mary thinks about her priorities.

She decides to put herself first, before her job.

Once back on the ground, Mary keeps the photo at her workplace.

Whenever she starts feeling stressed, she looks at it.

Just seeing the photo helps her feel less tense.

Mary has learned an important lesson on how to create and hold space for herself.

Picture this:

👑A king noticed that his people were becoming a bit too comfy.

Let's say, a bit spoiled.

So he thought it was time for a little wake-up call.

A little lesson.

So what did he do?

His plan was simple:

🪨 He decided to place a huge rock in the middle of the main road that led into the city.

Yep, no getting past this big obstacle!

Then, he found a sneaky spot to watch what would happen next:

• How would the people react to this?
• Would they work together to remove it?
• Or would they give up and go back home?

👀 As he watched, the king felt a mix of surprise and disappointment.

One after another, his people came across the rock.

But instead of trying to solve the problem, most just turned around and left.

A few gave it a weak attempt but soon gave up.

There was a lot of complaining.

Some blaming the king.

Some moaning about how inconvenient it was.

Yet, no one really did anything effective about it.

🚶Then, after a few days, along came a regular guy.

Just a peasant, heading into town.

But he didn't just walk away like the others.

No, he put his back into it, trying his best to move the rock.

And when pushing didn't work, he had a lightbulb moment.

He dashed off into the woods and came back with a big stick...

He turned the stick into a lever...

And voilà!

He managed to move the rock!

And guess what?

Underneath that rock, there was a surprise waiting for him:

💰 A bag full of golden coins and a note from the king.

❝The obstacle in the path becomes the path. Never forget, within every obstacle is an opportunity to improve our condition.❞

So what's holding you back?

🪨 Your horse's behavior?

🪨 People that don't take you seriously?

🪨 Your own thinking?

🪨 That you're not good enough?

🪨 Or that you're too old?

🪨 Or you lack support?

Ivana Kovaříková, our ST Instructor in the Czech Republic, graduated in the Straightness Training Academy in Grade 2 in all five training pillars: groundwork, longeing, work in hand, riding and Straightness Training at liberty.

Congratulations, Ivana, and thanks for taking the time to share your STory with us:

❝Tesstino came to me 4 years ago as an OTTB.

Being in racing sport for 5 years he was unbalanced physically and emotionally.

I already bought him with the idea of ST journey in mind.

I felt excited and little worried.

I wanted to help him and learn more about a type of a horse I have never met before.

ST worked for me and my previous horse very well.

I was convinced ST can be even better for a horse like Tesstino and I can get more experience with a completely different horse.

I already knew that taking the logical steps of progressive touchstones would be the best way to go.

After completing Grade 1 it took me a while to fully grasp Basic Grade 2 essence.

Especially GW2 was an obstacle that really checked my perseverance.

ST journey for me is an endless path with continuous self-mastery.

If I hadn´t chosen this path we (me and my horse) would probably be struggling with his physical issues and mutual misunderstanding.

After completing my Grade 1 and Grade 2 journey I can see and feel so many changes in myself and my horse.

Tesstino came to me to teach me patience, humbleness, compassion, love and understanding.

Thanks to ST journey with Tesstino my life perception has completely shifted.

I have been able to look at him and all others through new glasses and even see more than meets the eye.❞

Maestro. A Dutch warmblood. My master.

He entered my life at seven.

A dream horse on the ground, a nightmare under saddle.

Why?

Because of his natural asymmetry.

I was unaware of it, therefore, I didn't address it properly.

I remember...

How beautiful it is to travel, year after year on your own path, with the same horse! Last Sunday, it was Maestro's birthday! 🎉 🦄 He entered my life at 7... 🎂 Now, he's 30 years old — can you believe it! I learned so much from Maestro over the last 23 years. And to honor his life, I'd love to share those lessons with you. Let’s talk about Mary, who has been overwhelmed for the last four months. She’s an instructor and runs her own teaching practice 🎠. But, she’s always so busy. There’s never enough hours in a day. She's always rushing around. So her job as an instructor started to feel like a burden. And she couldn’t distance herself. It got to a point where even talking about work started to stress her out. One day, Mary reads about a free challenge 🎟️: "We help you look at obstacles differently." "We help you create distance between you and your problems.” "We help you see things from a new angle.” It really caught Mary's attention. So, she decided to give it a try and signed up. The next thing she knows, she's on a special flying adventure 🚀. Mary finds out they're flying to a plateau about 39 kilometers high. During the journey, they ask about her situation. They ask what’s really important to her. For Mary, her job has always been at the top of her list. Her job comes first for her. Then the machine lands on a large platform. From there, Mary can see the Earth below 🌍. They use a special beam to point out her job. Then, they ask Mary to show how big her job seems from this view. "So small," she says, bringing her thumb and forefinger close together. "Stay like that," a friendly lady asks. And they take a photo of Mary. The photo shows Mary how small her job looks when she steps back from it. Mary takes a deep sigh, amazed by how simple it can be: When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change 👀. On their way back, Mary thinks about her priorities. She decides to put herself first, before her job. Once back on the ground, Mary keeps the photo at her workplace. Whenever she starts feeling stressed, she looks at it. Just seeing the photo helps her feel less tense. Mary has learned an important lesson on how to create and hold space for herself. ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ 🚀 Are you
