Founded in 2011 by Monica Hoover, a freelance fashion, product and fine art photographer and passionate animal lover, Rescued Cards was created as a way to help garner much needed awareness about the animal rescues Hoover was voluntarily photographing.
“Everyone wants to help, but no one really helps unless they are asked - until it becomes personal. I’m hoping that through Rescued Cards, people will be engaged and moved to support the rescue movement through purchasing a card, visiting the rescue website and supporting through monetary contribution, volunteer work and ultimately animal adoption. These rescues are filled with people I like to call ‘human angels.' I have truly found my life’s work through Rescued Cards, as it has finally come full circle.”
Monica Hoover was born in Erie, Pennsylvania and attended Drexel University where she received her BAS in Photography and Minor in Architecture. A West coast transplant since 1999, Hoover founded the San Diego art gallery VOICE 1156 in July of 2004, a fine urban art gallery that co-existed as a photography and design studio until 2007. A part-time photography teacher at the Art Institute San Diego, Hoover's client roster ranges from WWD Magic, the Hard Rock Hotel and Charlotte Russe, to name a few. In 2008, Hoover and her husband Justin were featured on the hit TV show, "Dog Whisperer" in the compelling episode, "Dueling Pitbulls." The episode captured Monica & Justin’s relentless mission to rehabilitate their dogs, Sandi and Trinity, and made for a life-changing routine to which they continue today. Hoover plans to tour across the greater US with Rescued Cards and visit animal rescues along the way to conduct photo shoots of animals up for adoption. These photos will be featured on Rescued Cards and on the website. Hoover plans to collaborate with other award-winning artists and passionate visionaries to help make Rescued Cards an inevitable success for a most notable cause, rescued animals.
