Super Smoochie Smoochie was a 15 yo Pomeranian in Portland, OR. She was adopted from the Oregon Humane Society in 2013. She is Super Smoochie and her power is cuteness!

RIP 1/7/2021 Smoochie was at the Yamhill County Animal Shelter in July, 2013. She was brought to the Oregon Humane Society in Portland, OR to help with her many medical needs. Her skin was in raw, red, and infected with yeast. She had very little fur on her body due to food allergies. She was missing all of her upper teeth. She could not use her right rear leg because she had a Grade 4 luxating pa

tella (her knee was not where it was supposed to be!). She has arthritis in her hips and back. She was fostered until her allergies were under control and then adopted by Terra and Drew Merget. They got Smoochie's allergies under control and her leg fixed. Unfortunately, she had to have the rest of her teeth removed because they were so broken and abscessed. (Her tongue tends to stick out because she has no teeth to hold it in!)
She goes to Back on Track Veterinary Rehab to do underwater treadmill therapy to help build up her leg muscles after surgery and to help with her arthritis. Smoochie won Portland's Next Top Dog Model (small dog division) in June 2013.

My Valentine's gift to you-- All of my Smoochie in the snow videos. Facebook will only let me post one at a time, so sorry for spamming your timeline. She would have loved the recent snow storm here in Portland. ❤️

The moment I fell in love with Smoochie? She came to work with her foster mom Jennifer, my boss when I was volunteering at the Oregon Humane Society. A definite perk is sometimes getting to work with dogs on your lap-- in the first photo, Jennifer's dog Lucy and her foster dog Smoochie. Smoochie came to OHS from Yamhill County Dog Control, which is much smaller and didn't have the resources OHS has to help her with her medical problems. She was transferred to OHS to treat her terrible yeast infection all over her body. Jennifer fostered her for several months until it was cleared up (her protein allergy was the cause.) I'll be forever grateful to Jennifer, Yamhill County Dog Control, and the Oregon Humane Society.

Miss Smoochie, supermodel, diva, queen, and my sweet baby girl, passed away Thursday morning January 7th. She was back at the ER because she had some episodes Tuesday night of collapsing or seizures but recovering and they were trying to figure out what was going on. She was hooked up to an EKG halter and stayed overnight but collapsed again (while eating!) and even after CPR they couldn't bring her back. Her dad and I got to spend some time with her which I will always be thankful for. I will post more on her legacy and gifts she brought to the world, but right now I am devastated and bereft. I was so lucky to be her mama and I will never, ever forget her. She was truly a one-of-a-kind being. Love to everyone.

Hi everyone! I went to the doctor yesterday, and my new lung X-rays look.... the same! So the doctor doesn't think it's an infection, and so no more antibiotics for me! Yay! The doctor didn't give a definitive diagnosis, but she thinks it might be chronic lower airway disease (mama will find out more soon.) I get to keep my oxygen kennel for a few more weeks; I go in almost every day at least once when my coughing won't stop and it helps. I do have to stay on the steroid, but the doctor is worried about long term steroid use causing diabetes, so she took some blood work and will call mama this week. Thanks for being so patient with mama, she has A LOT going on and she's trying her best! This picture is from two summers ago on the Oregon coast-- I took over this sand fort that these little boys had built for myself!

It's me, Santa Smoochie! You've all been extra good this year, so my presents for you are... these photos! YOU'RE WELCOME! 😜 (But seriously, I want to thank everyone for their extremely kind words about my little girl during this difficult year. She's been doing ok, but we'll know more Saturday morning when she gets her recheck X-rays.) All our love, Smoochie and Smoochie's Mama ❤️

Hi guys, sorry mama hasn't updated y'all sooner! I'm doing okay; on my recheck my lung x-rays still didn't look great so the vets have me on antibiotics and the steroid for two more weeks. I also get to keep my studio apartment a bit longer (I'm thinking of adding a whirlpool bath), although I don't need it much right now. Mama is working on a holiday photo for everyone, but until then please enjoy these 2015 photos of me chewing on grass without any teeth 🙄

How I felt in January 2020/How I feel in December 2020 😳😳😳 2020 has definitely made Mama look like the second picture! These are from 2014 because Mama forgot to get new pics of me today! I had a good day, no time needed in the studio apartment, and no vomiting! Yay! Mama said I was a bit too quiet, hopefully I will have more energy tomorrow. ❤️Love to all my fans, Smoochie 😘

Here's a video of Smoochie's first post hospital walk! Much faster than I thought it would be but she stopped pretty quickly. This was from Friday; Saturday we had a lot of vomiting so it was back to the vet hospital for a recheck. They sent her right back home with some anti nausea medicine and she's much better! Just so many meds on such a tiny tummy! 😝❤️ Love to everyone again for your support!

Smoochie's biggest fan Lou got to give Smoochie a big hug today -- they were both very happy! 🥰 Smoochie had a good day today, did spend some time in her oxygen kennel -- I'm calling it her "studio apartment", I may put up xmas lights -- and she's getting used to it. It definitely helps when she is struggling a bit with her breathing. She went for a small walk today (video tomorrow!) and that went well. Slowly healing.... 🙏🫁❤️

Hi guys! Smoochie is doing ok. This is her portable oxygen kennel with portable oxygen concentrator attached. She was only in it for a little bit because she DOES NOT like being cooped up --- she wants to where she wants when she wants --- she never was fully crate trained! She's a rebel and a free spirit! She did regurgitate one of her four meals, but she didn't have much coughing so that was good. Bit of a rocky day but hopefully tomorrow will go smoother. Thank you again for all you support, and hopefully she will be glamorously modeling for you all again! 😘😘😘❤️❤️❤️

She's home!!!! She's sleeping right now and I couldn't be happier! 🥰 She's coughed a bit but I haven't had to use her oxygen kennel yet (I'll post a picture tomorrow). Her discharge summary said she either had "aspiration pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome, pulmonary thromboembolism, or non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema." !!!! I know she only made it through becaause of y'all's prayers and positive thoughts, and of course the folks at Columbia River Vet Specialists. Hopefully she'll continue to heal and be back to her sassy self (she already barked at me for dinner! 🤣) THANK YOU ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Hi everyone, Smoochie is steadily improving and the doctors think she might be ready to go home Wednesday. I will be renting the oxygen kennel in case she is in distress and to help her lungs heal. They think she she might heal faster at home. Wish me luck, I'm not a vet tech and I'm scared I'll screw it up, and with my husband divorcing me I won't have any help (except friends risking the COVID, but that will only be in emergencies). Thank you so much for the prayers and positive thoughts-- I know it has helped Smoochie and it's definitely helped me! ❤️

Smoochie is doing slightly better today. Her medicine was switched to oral which was deemed a success. The doctors are talking about sending her home with her own portable oxygen kennel because it appears it will take a long time for her lungs to heal. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any advice welcome! Thank you for all the words of encouragement, they are a tremendous help. This is a picture from 2016, when Smoochie's original groomer Anna would send her home with a homemade hair ribbon, which Smoochie would immediately try to remove. 🙄❤️

Hello everyone. Smoochie is doing the same, no improvement today. They are starting her on a bronchodilator and are hoping she just needs time. This is agonizing and not being able to visit is devastating. Please keep her in your thoughts. (I gave them a picture of her as "Super Smoochie" and they've taped it to her kennel.)

Hi everyone, Smoochie is doing a bit better today! Her lung x-rays were better, and she's eating again. She'll get another steroid shot today, but she still has to stay in her oxygen kennel. I've been assured she's getting lots of love from the doctors and staff. Thank you so much for your love and support for a litttle creature that has brought me more joy than I ever thought possible-- it truly means the world. ❤️
