We'll be offering tissue culture plants only for the time being and shipping is limited to New England but we're excited to try something new. Hopefully it can grow and we can offer more of the products that we're known for!

Handmade kokedama are now available at the shop! Kokedama is a fun way to enjoy houseplants similar to enjoying aquatic plants in wabikusa.

The plants are grown in an appropriate soil mix and wrapped with sphagnum, watering is a simple soaking. Kokedama are available just as the moss ball or with a vessel included.

Fluval Aquascaping Contest at the NEC Convention! I had a blast hosting and judging all the layouts everyone created and was seriously impressed with the results. Congrats to all the participants and huge congrats to the winning layouts!

Final layouts are at the end of this album.

Huge thanks to Fluval for supplying the canvas and tools for success for the competitors, to the NEC for giving aquascaping a chance to shine, and to Ultum Nature Systems for letting us supply some beautiful plants for everyone!

Fluval Aquascaping Contest at the NEC Convention was a big hit! I had a blast hosting and judging it and was seriously impressed with everyone's layouts. Huge congrats to everyone who entered and to the winners!

Big thank you to Fluval for supplying all the competitors with the tanks and tools needed for success. Thank you to the NEC for giving aquascaping a chance to shine, and thank you to Ultum Nature Systems for coming through and allowing us to supply the contest with some beautiful plants!

Hello everyone! I'd like to make a nice organized post here about the Fluval Aquascaping Contest at the NEC Convention with all the relevant information the contestants may need or find useful. Feel free to ask any questions, what is listed here will also be printed and at the contest for quick reference if needed.

•First off, the contest will start as soon as the vendor room opens at 12pm on Friday and will end at 5pm on Saturday. All winners will be announced during the banquet dinner on Saturday. Important for all attendees is that there is a Peoples Choice Winner that everyone at the convention can vote for, slips for it will be provided in greeting bags.

•Second, all materials are provided. Wood, stone, and plants are all available to the 12 contestants. You are free to bring your own materials as well as long they are natural materials (stone/wood/botanicals/etc)

Judging Criteria is as follows. A 50 point system will be used to evaluate all the layouts. It is broken down as follows:

•Recreation of natural habitat for fish (10 points maximum)
-Is this a healthy environment for fish?
-Are my fish(if added) and plants in good health?
-Do my choices of fish and plants blend well together?

•Viability of layout longevity
(10 points maximum)
-Can this aquascape be maintained longterm?
-How will the layout expression change over time?

•Demonstration of technical skill
(10 points maximum)
-Did I display knowledge of aquascaping techniques?

•Originality and impression
(10 points maximum)
-Did a showcase my own creativity?
-Does the overall layout create and impressive impression?

•Balance of composition and plants
(10 points maximum)
-Is the layout complete?
-Is there a good balance between the amount of hardscape and plants?

*A few notes. Hardscape can exceed the water line of the tank but judging will only be based on whats below the water line. Fish are optional but encouraged, you may bring some or purchase some from the many vendor's that will be in the room.*
