Good advice here!

It's okay for stuff (safe stuff) to go in your puppy's mouth. Trying to keep everything out and take everything away can actually create problems.

One area I often see this is during walks. I tell my clients that if their puppy grabs something, as long as it's not going to kill him, just keep walking. More often than not, the puppy will eventually drop the item and move on.

Meet Roscoe!

This little guy has been in my Day Training program for a couple of months, and I got a chance to hang with him even more when his folks went on vacation.

We had fun playing around with this cute tug trick during my stay. He's such a cuddly boy.

to a couple Saturdays back when I'd driven 70 miles to work with three clients and been gone 4.5 hours. The live-in sitting dogs needed some enrichment, but I didn't feel well. Treat Scatter for the win!

I took my bucket of training treats (just Stella & Chewy's Raw Coated kibble) outside and tossed a couple of handfuls into the grass.

The pups took a lot of deep breaths to find the food and I stood in the shade.

Congratulations to Birdie and Family for completing their Day Training program on Saturday! 🎉

Mom shared that they recently visited a puppy training group workshop and Birdie was the star of the show as the demo dog for muzzle training -- something they've never worked on before!

At 6.5 months old, she's got foundation skills to carry her into adolescence and beyond. Do great, Birdie!

Luna is doing so well learning to get on her Place!

This is a unique skill because she has to move away from me to do it. Most everything else we ask is done in our bubble, or involves moving closer to us...not farther away.

This video is a nice example of how specific dogs are. Luna does great hitting her Place if it's between us, but if I vary her angle of approach, it's not as familiar and she needs help figuring it out.

Her little hop to get back on her rug! ☺

Luna gets VERY excited when anyone walks into the kitchen. This would be fine except for the jumping and peeing that accompanies the excitement.

To make this better, we're teaching her to get on her place and stay there when someone walks up to the gate and into the kitchen.

She's learned that the rug is a good place to be ( ), and she's making progress learning to stay there. Today, we worked on staying there with gate sounds and movement. They are part of the excitement picture for her, so they have to be part of our training plan if we want the behavior to work in real life.

Puppy Kacey started her Day Training program this week!

We're going to work on her basic obedience skills with particular attention to leash manners and listening around distractions. She's infatuated with other people and dogs and will be a big girl. Too big to be dragging her owners around!
