Sputnik spent the morning investigating the fish ponds.

Getting hot out so I brought out the ice blocks for the kittens and turned on the fan.
They had to inspect those ice blocks after playing with the ice cubes I put in the water.

Weather down into the 80's. So more manageable.
Kittens doing great and growing. No longer the hollow starved faces. The see the vet the 16th for their exams and second vaccine. Then the get full run of the cat room. Then they can go out side. Because I have a hawk that lives close by, I want them older and bigger before having full run of the cat yard.

We hit 102 degrees today. But the kittens are fine along with everyone else. Ice containers for the kittens, multiple waterings for the backyard in the jewelweed forest for the fur kids to stay cool in.
Kittens just finished their chicken dinner.

Just reported by news on channel 2 that we hit 100 degrees 7 minutes ago.
I'm 80 degrees inside, kittens are playing with fresh ice cubes and have blocks of ice in their kennel and the cats can come and out as they want through their cat door.
Dish of ice water set out for Zoey and the cats. Zoey isn't panting. She is 9 years old now and medium long fur. I take her out briefly and she comes back in panting rapidly and has a look of agony on her face. So the trips outside are really limited.

Setting out containers with iced salt water. Kittens are curious and comfortable.
The Yuban container is on it's way back to the freezer.

98 outside but the kittens are doing okay with a frozen hot water bottle in the kennel and a fan blowing on containers with frozen salt water; n them. Amy os laying on the floor close to the fan.
All get ice cubes in their water dishes every hour. Will be spraying the yard with water later so there is cooler sleeping outside tonight.
Going to be hotter tomorrow. This; s to go; n through next week.

Due to the heat being 105+ Saturday, I rescheduled the kittens appointment for the 16th.
They are doing great. Growing ever so slightly but doing good.

Freezer has my plastic jug collection inside freezing salt water. I have the second round ready to trade out and refreeze as we plug along beginning Thursday.
I have rubber hot water bags in the freezer to make a nice flat surface I can put up against kennel wall to radiate cool air.
Ice cubes being made to fill a container to then put in water dishes. Both my crew and wildlife.
For as much ridicule and criticism I regularly get for keeping "garbage", my garbage are the plastic containers that help pull the animals through heat events.

The three kitteneers have their first vet appointment Saturday. Want to make sure they are doing fine and get their records started.

BooBoo has an abscess snd I had to catch the old guy to get antibiotics on it. Since he is so old now and totally shy, I try to keep the stress down for him.
This has convinced me to have a kennel up permanently in the cat room. Was thinking about it anyway. But I'm convinced now.

Cats yard shaping up. Got a small pond in. Got pet barns set up behind one of the swings. Tigger and Amy supervised. Tigger did the comfort tests.

Amy is now indoor/outdoors, loves the pond, found the catnip and is even sleeping within two feet of Zoey dog.

Kittens are now in a larger kennel and have a vet visit scheduled for next Saturday. The kennel is big enough for a small cat tree.
They are doing great and all named.

Kittens doing great. Slowly gaining weight and confidence.

Amy met Zoey dog. Amy not dog friendly. Amy went nuts and ran up a tree. Amy finally came out of tree. I quickly caught that cat.
She is currently restricted to the cat room until I can block that tree off and I can get her to accept Zoey.

A friend came over yesterday with fresh catnip. Fur kids are enjoying it tonight.

Made homemade bird feeder snd waterer. Will see if the work. Did a squirrel feeder and it's working.

Amy has free roam of the house. She seems to be enjoying herself.

The kittens got names. Rocky, tabby boy. Tara, dark calico with dark eye patch. Tegan, orange calico who was the FCCO cat of the day.

Just found out that Rocky and Tara were 10 weeks at clinic. I was stunned. So small at 10 weeks.

These babies are all letting me hold them, pet them while eating and will be getting upgraded to a larger kennel while they get a little bigger.

The three new kittens are doing fabulously. No cowering, huddling or fear on their faces.

Amy was let loose in the cat room again all night. Just like the night before, no tools disturbed.
Amy appears to be a perfect indoor kitty. Tomorrow ends her two week restrictions period. Then we transition to full release.

Went to meet rescuer who I got Amy from to return the carrier.
Came home with the carrier.
All three had just gone through clinic. All three doing great this morning. All letting me handle, pet and hold them.
The calicos are severely underweight. Tabby is a boy and very docile like the girls.
It took a village to save them. Literally. Many people were involved in their rescue, trip to clinic and now their recovery.

Developing shelters for when winter hits. In the meantime, they will be available for the cats to get familiar with and play on.
There will be 2 hard side kennels I've had for years set on the back side of the metal trellis bench. Once set, they'll be packed with straw and the cats can play or lay on the tops.

Laminitis is a horrible disease. After Nicky was trimmed, I was warned she would be sore. Have calls in to both the vet and farrier.
Nicky still sore. I soak her orchard hay now to reduce the sugar content. I toss out the water for the chickens after soaking the hay. They seem to be loving it too. Pieces of hay and the sweetened water. This is going to take months but my farrier feels she can get nicky back 90%.
Nicky today. My alive, happy, very much loved horse.
Nicky has her own pasture. But when I bring her in for the night, I had a screaming banshee. But a happy banshee.
Got out to Nicky and she had been using her stall as a workout room. She was one sweaty girl. So, I took her out to the round pen and she got her chance to burn up energy on her own terms. then I brought out the new lounging/buggy whip and made her remember form long ago to lounge off line by command. She seemed to recall all including the buck as she went into lunge command. He buck is like my Quarter Horse had. A twist of the hips like a professional rodeo bronc. Each time I have attempted to ride Nicky, she did the buck in the video but higher and more twist in the hind quarters. And with each attempt to ride her, I was on the ground. but she always came over to me and stuck her muzzle in my face to see if I was okay. Note her stepping out. She is well balanced too.

Tony went outside yesterday after fluids and a dreaded nail trim. Growled the whole time. Darn cat is getting healthy. Put on his Rambo jacket that I modified with a belt to keep it snug against his skinny back and it works like a charm now. Was able to get in touch with the stable owner and got n official birthdate for Tiny. The old guy is younger then I had been told. Tony was born May 2003. So he is going to be 19 in May 2022. Now that I have a more accurate idea of how old Tony is, I can confidently say - barring any major medical catastrophe - he should have a number of quality years left with proper care for an old guy.
