Hello.
For those that aren't aware, Luna is currently in a fight for her life. She had a bad tooth go awry, and has been in intensive care for the prior week, and continued at home this week. The tooth was causing all of her kidney values to spike off the charts, and she is in overdrive right now.
She spent several days in the vet running IVs through her, and was deteriorating. Her vets seemed ready to give up, but we were not.
We brought her home, and after a long time of furious research and overnight ordering, came up with an aggressive supplement and treatment mixture that we made using a can of dog food (Purina Pro Critical Care formula) and started feeding her through a syringe while doing subcutaneous IV fluids at home.
After 2 cans, since this particular brand of food was not ideal for her treatment since it uses beef as the protein base, I was able to move her back to her Hill's prescribed kidney care formula that uses chicken as a protein base instead.
Right now, if anyone is wondering, she's using this as her daily regimen.
Hill's Science Diet KC formula, Rimadyl, and a phosphate binder to get phosphorus out of her blood.
Then we're using Omega3, krill oil, green lipped mussels, niacin, baking soda, cordyceps, rehmannia root, astragalus root, d**g quai root, and a cranberry supplement. We're also going to be adding blueberries and ginger to this. We want to add turmeric, but it's not super palatable at first, so we're holding off on it until after the tooth thing.
A few cut strips of chicken breast (adding a non-processed food/protein to the mixture).
This gets pureed with purified water and the mixture is split into 2 portions (it normally winds up being 3-4 sessions as we don't push her too much to eat it all in one sitting).
Our routine rarely lets us sleep more than a few hours before we have to do something different with her, but for now, it's what is required.
We reached out to Sky Sanctuary Rescue and the owners have been awesome and are helping us get connected to the doctors she needs. She's going to see a specialist dentist in the morning to see if she can undergo specialized anesthesia that will be less of a risk to her life and get this tooth out. It's the best chance she has at recovering and time is absolutely of the essence.
She will also see a doctor Saturday, a specialist of internal medicine to go on a holistic treatment plan to help reinforce her kidneys and try to provide her the best chance at success that we can.
Is she comfortable? Absolutely. Is she in pain? Only from the tooth. She's extremely well cared for, and even through this all, she's a happy pup and in good spirits. She's a fighter.
We are hopeful, but it's quite a demanding scenario, and we spend so many hours every day caring for her to give her this fighting chance. The costs are adding up, and will continue for a bit, getting pretty high over time. [edited to remove gofundme info]
Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers, she needs all the support and help she can get right now, and positive vibes. Thank you all.
