Donkey Care Tip #4.
A single jennet and an intact jack are not necessarily a "match made in heaven".
Personally, I receive phone call after phone call from people with a calm sweet jack that need a female companion.
Yes, baby jacks are very sweet. According to the registry (unless this statistic has changed), the youngest jack to produce offspring was 10 mos. old!!!!
You have a weanling jennet with this boy, who can start cycling under One year of age, you risk a baby becoming pregnant.
Furthermore, one jennet with an intact jack will be annoyed, chewed up and pursued constantly. Not a good scene!
For farm companions your best solution are 2 geldings together, or 2 jennets together. A gelding/jennet combination can work, if the gelding is very mild tempered. There are some geldings that do not work well with jennets and always have breeding on their mind.
It's interesting how many owners do not understand these dynamics until you explain to them.
