Skylos was formed based on the vision of husband and wife team Drs. Faith and Peter Lotsikas.
Mission:
Our mission at Skylos Sports Medicine is to combine clinical and surgical excellence with an outstanding experience for both you and your companion. We believe there is an inner athlete level in every dog, and we are committed to working with you to unleash that potential whether your companion requires surgery, rehabilitation therapy, return to sport and fitness, or geriatric wellness. ur goal is to restore and maintain the basic canine freedom to feel good and run for the fun of it. We pledge to treat every patient as a beloved family member, not as a condition, and to value you as an integral team member. Philosophies:

• We take an individualized approach as each canine human bond is unique. Thereby we ensure ample time for the care of each of our patients and for our communications with you.
• We are dedicated to providing you with the education and support needed to make informed decisions concerning the medical needs of your companions.
• We believe in providing you with the tools needed to play an active role in your companions care as you are an integral member of the recovery team.
• We will strive to continually evolve staying at the forefront of our chosen specialty.
• We will remain vigilant for the entire patients wellness. Our team shall strive to be approachable with open communication, compassionate, and thorough, as well as respected experts in this field. “Providing what is best for each patient, every time,” is our team priority. We believe this conscious choice will influence our actions in such a way that a positive experience for both you and your companion will naturally follow. Who knew our team was so talented?! We decided to have a friendly gingerbread house competition at our hospital and wow! They blew us away with their houses! Dr. Hummel had a tough time judging the competition. Ultimately he picked three winners, even though all of the houses were festive and unique!

Torn Biceps Tendon
While at ACVS last month, one of the topics Dr. Lotsikas presented on to his fellow Sports Medicine and Surgery colleagues was about biceps tendinopathy and the various treatment paths that may be taken. 🎓 Similar to human athletes, performance dogs are at risk for sports related injuries. Dogs participating in agility are at a particular risk for an injury involving the biceps. Once the extent of injury is determined, a treatment plan can be tailored to the patient. Treatments can range from rehabilitation therapy alone, intra-articular/intra-tendon injections, PRP (platelet rich plasma) injections, and surgery. Treatment, prognosis and management to return to sport is unique to each dog.
