Flame Tree
Good afternoon sunset lovers 😎
No storms around the last week or more so it was back to chasing colourful skies instead. Friday through to Sunday we had a large band of high level cloud drifting down from the north west, it was placed perfectly for the Gold Coast, Brisbane and areas to the west to catch some colour. When positioned well mid level cloud and high level clouds are what give you those long burning oranges, pinks and reds, the kind us landscape photographers crave.
Unfortunately for me on Sunday some dreaded low level cloud started drifting in off the ocean just as the first round of colour was popping. Low level cloud usually catches some colour while the sun is just about to set but then as the sun begins to sink below the horizon it goes grey and stays grey.
As you can see in this image the low level is bottom right of frame. It got thicker and ruined the second round of colour which happens roughly 20 minutes after sunset. Although I walked away somewhat disappointed as these set ups don't happen that often at this time of year I decided to share this image anyway as it was still a magical afternoon.
Brighton Tree is probably my most photographed subject over the years, I hope you're not sick of it 😂 It's close to home and although I do get a bit tired of shooting there sometimes I just love the textures in the sand and the exposed rocks at low tide, every sky is different.
I've always got my head in the clouds waiting for Mother Natures next master class, no better way to start or end the day. Enjoy the rest of the week, two more days until the weekend!
