Update 2:
She is out of surgery and will be on her way back to her foster home to recover. It was definitely a success! We caught it early .

Emergency Medical Care Needed
Tuscany Needs Pyometra Surgery

Tuscany was the stray we mentioned in our Euclid Beach Mobile Home Park pato. She came in emaciated. She had a gallop, heart rate and anemia. Last night her Foster noticed that she was leaking fluid. We sent her to great Lakes VCA and Warrensville Heights this morning.

They examined her and determined that she has pyometra. Luckily they did not detect a gallop rhythm in her heart. She still has an anemia, but they believe it will be OK for her to have surgery. The risk is definitely outweighed by the need.

We are currently checking around to try and find somebody to spay her tomorrow. The spay will be more expensive than your regular welfare clinic pricing that we ordinarily use.

We are asking again if you might join us to help cover that cost. We will continue to update you as we know more and get this schedule.

Venmo is the quickest way to get us the money for her care. You may be able to donate directly to the clinic once we get this scheduled.

Hi Friends!

EBCP is working diligently to move our records into an electronic system. This will allow us to ensure that all records are not only easily accessible, but also that they are not subject to loss. As we’re sure you can imagine, this requires a significant amount of data entry.

That’s where you come into the equation!

Are you able to donate some time to our efforts?

We would love for you to join our team! Training is provided and we would be deeply grateful for your help.

If interested, please complete the volunteer application today!

We are so grateful for this opportunity that was awarded to us!

We are able to purchase humane nets to safely retrieve scared cats at our adoption locations if they my have gotten out of their area and are hiding in places that would not be safe and comfortable for the cat to reach for them. These nets are easy to slide on top of our kitties and ease them out peacefully! ❤️

We would like to congratulate our 2024 Spring/Summer Grant Recipients! Thank you for all of your efforts - we are so proud to support each one of you!

Please support your local shelters, rescues and animal welfare organizations. The need is greater than ever.

EUCLID BEACH MOBILE HOME PARK- THE END OF A ERA

PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN

Once the home to employees of the park, a mobile home park sprung up on the shores of Lake Erie. Old cinderblock cottages, and ticket booths still remain on the grounds. Over the years the park has turned into disrepair. Trailers have been condemmed sitting along side homes that are well cared for. In 2021 Western Reserve Land Conservancy purchased the land that they will turn over to the Cleveland Metroparks soon. They have been working to get human tenants moved, give compensation packages to home owners, and remove all the cats through our organization. Friday is the last day Euclid Beach Mobile Home Park will exist. After that all tenants will have vacated (or will be in the process to do so), and our organization will not be able to trap ( without special permission).

This project has been so many things. It has been rewarding to help over 150 cats that were in dire straights. It has also been exhausting mentally, physically, and financially. Most of the cats coming out of there have had medical concerns that needed addressed before finding forever indoor homes, or relocated to barn homes. Unfortunately, a few had conditions that made them hospice kitties in our care, or we had to humanely euthanize. Luckily, for most of them, we were able to heal their bodies and their souls.

Fast forward to August 2024:

The last two weeks we have had boots on the ground trying to save the rest of the cats still at the park. Trappers/caretakers have been exhausting daylight hours and working into the night to make sure nobody has been left behind. We have had foster team members stepping up to care for these sweet kitties, and have a barn in Novelty ready to take several that aren't socialized and would not thrive in a indoor home.

Just like so many others, these cats have a host of medical concerns. We are fairly certain that they will need very specialized care. Diagnostics are still coming in, and we will have more information soon to share.

This is what we do know:

Greyson: He is a 10 yr old boy that had been living at the park for many years. We sent him off to the vet this past week to get diagnostics. His bloodwork showed a high parasite load and inflammation stemming from that. He also had the rest of what teeth were left extracted. They put on a topical dewormer and flea treatment and said he would recover well and be okay for a barn transfer since he was not a social guy.

BB Tom: This boy was shot up by a resident last year and vetted by another kind resident. This person surrendered him to us last week. He had diagnostics that included radiographs yesterday. He has bb pellets throughout his body, including in his joints. He also has a 3/6 heart murmur. He will see one of the critical care specialists first to determine next steps. We may be advised to remove some of them, and leave others. He will then likely see a cardiologist. That will be determined at the time of this next appointment. His medical case may become very financially taxing.

Tuscany: This sweet teenage was likely abandoned and we have no idea how long she was in the condition she was in before she was brought in extremely emaciated. She was at the vet yesterday as well for diagnostics. Her bloodwork shows dehydration, muscle wasting from malnutrition and anemia. She has what you call a galloping heart on the left side. They believe this is from the anemia. We are waiting to get her seen for next steps on that. We are hoping that this will continue to get better. She may also have a cardiology visit in her future. In the last week of regular meals she already looks better. We are hoping there are no long lasting affects of her struggles while on the street. She too will need follow-ups with multiple doctors.

Cosgrove: This one year old already fixed stray actually came in and checked out to be really healthy. What a breathe of fresh air to know at least some of them are not in need of major treatments to save their lives!

Cohara: He, too, is well. He was seen last week being thrown out from a vehicle by a maintenance person. We brought him in quickly, got him fixed and vetted. He is a sweet soul and thriving.

Carlos: This guy was nervous when he was first brought in, but he settled and is friendly. He is on his way to a foster home today.

Grumbles: This boy is a sweet older gentleman. He is at the vet today for diagnostics. He is is definitely a senior, but we are hoping that there are no chronic health concerns with him and he can find a family to call his own very soon.

Boogie: This girl has been a long time resident of the mobile home park. She was vetted by a resident and will be transferred to a barn home. She is not a social gal, so an indoor home isn't a place that she would thrive.

There are still approximately 5 more cats at large. Trapping has been going on for three days, but with all the construction and people moving, we have not been able to bring the rest in.

Three more days. That is all we have. To say we are worried and stressed is an understatement.

WE ARE ASKING FOR YOUR HELP. WE NEED THE HELP OF OUR VILLAGE TO HELP COVER THE COSTS OF THESE SPECIALTY APPOINETMENTS

BB my need surgery which could be in the thousands $$$$, He will. also need a cardiology visit which is about $800 for the initial visit. Tuscany needs a specialty visit and may need a cardiologist. In the recent weeks we have taken cats from the mobile home park and elsewhere in for major health concerns and we are just stretched so thin.

SO TRUE! We are ALL doing ALL we can! Be kind! Be patient with us!

Three words of advice for reaching out to animal rescuers: assume the best.

Assume that if you’re reaching out to someone who does animal rescue, you’re reaching out to someone who has a huge heart. Assume that they care deeply about saving lives. Assume that if they don’t respond to you right away, or at all, it’s because they’re so busy helping animals. Assume that you’re the 10th, 20th, or 100th person to reach out to them today asking for help. Assume that if they can’t help you, it’s because they are already at max capacity. Assume that you do not know or see a fraction of what is on their plate. Assume that they might be exhausted. Assume that they might be grieving, or tender. Assume that they are a loving, kind person who is a source of good for the world. Assume that they are worthy of being treated with consideration and respect. Assume that they are human.

Because 9 times out of 10, if you assume these things about an animal rescuer, you will be right. So when you reach out to an animal rescuer, let your words be filled with gratitude, patience, and understanding. Don’t use your words to jab at animal rescuers for not being available enough, not doing more, not “caring,” not being able to single-handedly save the world. Treat animal rescuers with compassion, not just when they can help you, but even—and especially—when they can’t. And when they can’t, don’t assume the worst. Assume the best.

Baby Spice is taking a ride with our wonderful Renee, pet taxi extraordinare, to Highland Heights Metropolitan to see Cardiology (Dr Stoner) for a heart scan!

For those of you that don't know Baby Spice, she was born stunted and has a rather large hole in her heart. So far she has not needed medication to sustain her heart function. We are hoping this echo will prove her heart is holding steady.

If you would like to donate to her cardiology visit tomorrow you can donate via Venmo, pay pal, credit or check!
