All about our famous model, Salvador!:
We think Salvador's story is pretty special. Back in 2006, we happened upon a "last chance" Craigslist post by a branch of the SPCA concerning an adult cat who had not been adopted for months and was about to be put
down. This cat was Salvador. After we followed a link to see pictures and watch videos of Salvador, we knew we had to rescue him. Black cats are always the least often adopted, and that's just not fair! We drove over an hour away to meet Salvador, and the first thing he did was hiss and lash out at me. I figured that I couldn't judge him for it since he didn't know me, so we took him home anyway. I'd never even had a cat before! We didn't change his name, because... well... we didn't want to confuse him. Salvador had been with his previous owners since he was a kitten, so he had a very rough time adjusting to living with us. For at least the first year, nobody could even pet him. We're suspicious that perhaps he was previously abused, since he would lash out at anyone approaching him, and would attack us without warning. I picked him up once and was nearly blinded when he tore open a giant gash in my eyelid! Everyone was starting to wonder if we had made a huge mistake adopting such a hellcat, but I kept telling everyone that if we showed him nothing but love, he'd change. (And just kept hoping that I was right, because I wasn't sure that I believed it myself!)
Very slowly, Salvador started showing small signs of coming around. We found that he loves to play fetch! He started letting us pet him, and even started to get in our laps. Soon he was dishing out headbutts, wanting to cuddle, and demanding to sleep on our beds. He's a lovely cat who just needed some love (okay, a lot of love) and we're so glad we could give him a second chance at life! In fact, Salvador is now so trusting that he has no problems with modelling the latest Snoop Catty Catt fashions! We just play with his toys, and he doesn't know he's having his (very handsome) picture taken! He turned12 years old in October, 2012. Salvador is a very talkative cat! He has an answer for everything, and a very large vocal range. He even calls out "Hurrow! Hurrowww!" when he wants to call everyone in the house to attention. His nickname (Snoop Catt) comes directly from his insatiable interest in snooping. You can't leave your purse open when Salvador's around! You will turn around and find a particular black cat with his entire head buried in the bag, digging for something good. His absolute favourite is peppermint gum. He'll rip open the pack and roll around in the pieces of gum if you're not watching! If you have skeletons in your closet, Salvador will find them... he's an expert at opening bi-fold closet doors. All comings and goings in the house must be overseen by Salvador, and no person shall go unchecked! All suitcases must go through the Snoop Catt's personal inspection. His favourite toys are hair elastics, foam balls, my handmade catnip toys, and any scrunched-up paper. Among his favourite foods are baked beans, tomato sauce, and pureed butternut squash!
