ATTENTION!! OFFICIAL NOTICE!! FAMILY, DOG FAMILY and FRIENDS:
It is with much sadness that we announce the severe downsizing and possible forever closing of vom Westerman German Shepherds.

As many of you know, Dwight and I have both had challenging health issues this year. That coupled with 15 below wind chills last Winter, and days on end this Summer and last of 105 to 115 heat index, have taken their toll on us. Under doctor’s orders, immediate lifestyle changes must be made. As a result, we are selling our remaining puppies and many of our breeding females. We will not be breeding any dogs, unless the new buyer wants to purchase breeding along with their new female.

We will still offer stud services for those who are interested.

*Our beloved horse, Tank, has already been re-homed. He couldn’t have gone to a better home!

**We still have some Senior girls who need to be re-homed.

Today's fact is a serious one.
Lyme Disease, not in people, but in dogs.

⚠️Lyme Disease is serious for your dog.
Recently, it has begun to spread across the south and it is officially spreading in Arkansas.

⚠️It is serious enough that we are now getting a Lyme Vaccine for every one of our dogs.

🟢If your dog spends any time outside, please consider contacting your vet and discussing a Lyme vaccination for your dog.

Some symptoms of Lyme Disease are
⚠️lameness
⚠️swollen lymph nodes
⚠️joint swelling
⚠️fatigue
⚠️loss of appetite
⚠️In some cases, serious kidney complications have been associated with Lyme disease in dogs.

Work with your vet to protect your dog or puppy🐾🐾❤️

✅Today, let's talk new puppy.

⭐️Your new puppy is too young for major exercise but perfect for mixed training and exercise sessions. This is a 4-for!
✅It helps you bond with your new puppy, helps him or her understand that you are their safe place (alpha), your puppy learns manners, and your puppy gets exercise at the same time!

⭐️If you don't know how to get started, leash training and sit are the best.
✅2 X a day every day for a week and your fur baby should be ready for something new the next week🐾🐾

⭐️Fact Friday!
Have you ever wondered if your dog is really color blind? Dogs' eyes only have two cones.

✅This means that dogs can’t see or perceive the colors red or green.
✅Dogs can only discern blue and yellow - this inability to see color the way humans typically do is called dichromatic vision.

✅Dogs can't perceive shades containing either red or green, such as pink, purple, and orange. ✅Dogs are also unable to perceive subtle changes in a color's brightness or shade.

⭐️Next time you and your dog are staring at a beautiful view, imagine what it looks like to them😁

⭐️Grooming

✅Regular grooming can save you and your furry friend tons of stress.

✅Brushing regularly is a must.

⭐️It doesn't matter if you have a German Shepherd or a Beagle, brushing helps them release their shedding coats and keeps dirt and dander at a minimum. It helps keep parasites and skin conditions under control, and not to mention less housework!

⭐️A good oatmeal bath soothes their skin, smells great, and makes their coat feel so nice🐾🐾❤️ (Just don't bathe them too often.)

✅Check with your vet to determine the best bathing schedule for your breed.

Sorry I missed Tip Thursday! Today will be a 2 for!

✅Fact: Dogs do not sweat like people.
✅Dogs do sweat, mainly through the glands in their paw pads. They cool their bodies differently. ✅Panting, laying on cooler surfaces with their thin belly skin or exposing it to cooler air, and seeking shade are ways that they help cool themselves.

⭐️TIP: An inexpensive, amazing treat that will help cool your dog that you can make at home:

✅Take "no sodium or low sodium" chicken broth or fish broth (for those with a chicken intolerance) and pour it into ice trays.
✅Freeze it.
✅Give 2 cubes to large breed dogs and 1 cube to smaller dogs. They love the cooling, the taste, and the entertainment 🐾🐾

🐾German Shepherds are not adults until they reach two years of age. They are still developing throughout those two years, so their growth plates have not completely closed until they are two.

⚠️Letting your dogs jump into and out of your vehicle, off of decks, or from other high places puts undue wear on growing hips and elbows.

✅We understand that picking up large dogs and helping them into or out of vehicles can be challenging, and that’s why we keep a ramp in our SUV.

🏖I know that we have talked a lot about heat and temperature regulation in the last weeks. That’s because because it is necessary!

🥵Let’s face it—most of us are enduring a heat wave rignt now.

⚠️Overweight dogs are especially at risk during extreme heat.

⚠️When an overweight dog is exposed to extreme heat, its heart can experience strain and it is put at risk of heart attack and possibly even death.

✅It’s vital to protect an overweight dog from the heat, even if changing its (and your) routine is necessary.

✅Additionally, veterinarians can offer great nutritional advice for the future.

⚠️Practice caution!

✅Flip your hand, touch the surface, and check the temperature if crossing hot surfaces is absolutely necessary, and consider purchasing protective boots for your dog.

🐾Luke is a sweetheart and would thrive in a home with people to love and to love on him in return.

🐾He is 4 years old (DOB 11/6/17) and he is the son of Son of 2 x VA Champion Demir and SG Libre.

🐾Luke was originally purchased as a pup. As we are committed to our dogs throughout their lifetime, we are helping find Luke his forever home now that his original family is no longer able to care for him.

✅Like any dog who is experiencing rehoming, Luke will need a refresher on training in his new space.
As always, we will provide insight and information for the transition based on our years of experience. We are available as a resource throughout your dog’s lifetime.

✅Because we are assisting in rehoming Luke, not selling him, he is available (to the right match for him) at a low rehoming fee rather than our typical dog/puppy cost.

✅Luke expects many years with a forever family. It is most important to us that Luke finds a home where he and his new family will thrive.

✅Luke is neutered. He is fed a high protein diet and up-to-date on all vaccinations and preventatives, and interested parties are expected to maintain the same level of care.

⭐️Bill and Kim are working professionals with a host of grandchildren. They enjoy traveling by car and spending time outdoors.
⭐️Romeo is one of our older puppies. He, a gentle giant, is already crate trained and well-mannered.

✅Fact: All dogs need training.

🐾All dogs are born with a pack mentality. They will bond with each other, humans, or other pack animals naturally. The "group" becomes the pack.

🐾Without training, your dog will follow his/her natural instincts, vying for the leadership position. This is natural!

⭐️Be the pack leader.
Take the pressure and stress off your dog. Teach them basic manners and basic commands for a much happier, more functional dog.

We love and recommend as an intro to training!
