This week we’ve been enjoying the company of three of our oldest visitors. At almost 17, Lucy the Jack Russell is definitely in the category of most mature guests. Hot on her heels at age 13 is handsome Diesel the Boxer X . Woody the Miniature Schnauzer x Westie is one of our older visitors in both senses , aged 11 and a half he came to stay in our first year, back in 2018 and we’ve been delighted to see him many times since then.

After today’s extraordinary weather (all the seasons in one day) I looked at the windswept photo of Frankie, Dexter, Badger and Luna and thought it would be interesting to look back at photographs from this date for the last 5 years. From 2023 we have assembled at the gate ready for our walk: Artoo, Obi, Archie, Pepper and Lola. 2022 features Narvi beneath a cherry tree. From 2021 our beloved, much missed Luna with adorable pup Dudley. In 2020 we went without visitors from March 22 for the rest of the year and so the photo is of lovely Luna modelling her Easter bonnet. The 2019 photo is Luna enjoying the sunshine with Poppy.

More scenes from the last few days, with various departures and arrivals. We said Goodbye to Percy the Clumber Spaniel after his 3 week stay. Sometimes it’s a day, sometimes a week and sometimes a month, but it’s always fun.

Interestingly our first visitor to arrive on January 2, 2023 and our last to leave in December was the same adorable little Cockapoo (pictured below) - she did go home in between!
Over the course of the year we had almost 80 canine visitors and with them I walked 1463 miles - and some of those dogs probably covered at least three times as much ground as me on our walks.
Of those 78 dogs comparatively few shared the same name. The figures in brackets are the numbers of our visitors who shared their names with the UK’s top 10 most popular names. last year. Out of 78 visiting dogs 66 had names not shared by any of our other visitors.
