Pound Cats NSW Pound Cats is a compassionate cat loving group based in Sydney, NSW, Australia. We share the plight o

There is sad overpopulation of companion animals in Australia which leads to around 25,000 cats and kittens being "put to sleep" annually in NSW alone, based on local government statistics. PCNSW endeavours to share the plight of NSW pound/shelter cats in order to find them homes or rescue organisations. We believe that the numbers of cats that enter pounds and other organisations such as the RSPC

A, and die there, can be reduced through change, and enforcement, of relevant legislation, and through a change in our culture and belief systems. A culture that did not believe animals were expendable would be more prepared to stand up for the right of an animal born, to also live out its life. We believe the solution to the overpopulation of companion animals that plagues Australia lies with us all - in the community. We are not a pound or shelter, nor do we represent pounds or shelters in any way. Any views expressed on this page are our own, or those of our friends, and are not those of the pounds/shelters. Please also be aware that sometimes discussion about rescue can be distressing, and/or robust and that different people have different views. Different views are to be respected and comments that are derogatory or defamatory will be removed.

🧡 Meet Nacho!

Nacho is a handsome ginger Domestic Shorthair, estimated to be around 4–5 years old — and he’s every bit as warm and loveable as his name suggests!

This friendly boy is very people-oriented and absolutely obsessed with food. Mealtime is his favourite part of the day, and he’ll make sure you know it! Nacho loves attention and will happily follow you around, hoping for a snack or a scratch behind the ears.

He seems comfortable around other cats and could happily share his space with a feline friend. Nacho hasn’t been tested with dogs or kids yet, but with his social nature, he may adjust well with time and patience.

Nacho can occasionally have some toileting issues, but he does best with two litter trays and a steady routine. With that simple setup, he’s an easy-going, affectionate companion who’ll brighten every day.

If you’re after a chatty, food-loving friend with loads of charm — Nacho’s your guy! 🧡

📩 put through an ‘adopt a pet request’ today to arrange a meet & greet with Nacho!

Please complete a Adopt a Pet Request | Albury City Council | Forms or call us on 6043 8530 to book an appointment or for more information. Disclaimer: All animals are adopted with microchipping, registration, desexing and 1st vaccination (subject to availability)

🧺🐾 SUMMER COMFORT – WE NEED YOUR HELP! 🐾🧺
The summer heat is here, and our shelter animals need a little extra comfort to stay cool and relaxed! We’re running low on bedding such as towels, sheets and other soft materials that help keep our furry friends comfortable in the warmer months. ☀️❤️

If you’re having a clean-out, please consider donating any old (but clean) towels, cotton sheets, dog/cat beds or light throws to help line kennels, create shaded rest spots, and keep our animals feeling fresh.

Please no pillows, no quilts, no electric blankets as these can pose choking hazards.

📍 Drop-offs: 20 Owen Street, Glendenning
📆 Open 7 days: Mon–Fri 8.30am–4.30pm, Sat/Sun 9am–1pm

Every donation makes a difference – your unwanted linen could bring comfort to a hot pup or sleepy kitty this summer. Thank you! 🙏🐶🐱

🚫 We're Currently at Full Capacity for Cats 🐾

At this time, BARC is unable to accept any more cats or kittens as we are currently at full capacity. We understand how much our community cares about animal welfare, and we truly appreciate your compassion. However, we kindly ask for your understanding and support during this busy period.

💡 A few important reminders to help our feline friends:

🐱 Found a stray cat? Cats are legally allowed to roam in NSW. If the cat looks healthy and friendly, it likely has a home and may return there on its own. Removing it from its territory can cause unnecessary stress and confusion.

🐾 See kittens alone? Please don’t assume they’ve been abandoned. In most cases, mum is nearby and simply out finding food. Removing kittens too early can be harmful to their development. If you're unsure, monitor from a distance for a few hours before intervening.

🤝 Want to help? If you're interested in fostering, we'd love to hear from you! Please email us at [email protected] to learn more.

📢 We’ll post an update as soon as we’re able to start accepting cats again. In the meantime, thank you for helping us spread awareness and for being part of a more informed and compassionate community.
