Leaving some original info below for reference sake. Having survived radiation treatments and now having fun tormenting mom and whisper (my sister). Its September of 2014 and we are getting ready to welcome 2 new additions to the family after having our beloved Journey pass away 8/1/14 from cancer. Mom describes me as a tomboy and full of s***k.
1/31/14: Yearly check-ups at our new vet in NY (we
live in Hartford, NY)
After routine blood work before a routine teeth cleaning....
Digits blood work came back - high calcium, high WBC: specifically lymphocytes, monocytes and eosinophils. She had developed a small lesion on her right upper lip mid January. Decision to repeat blood work and biopsy lesion...Lesion came back as lymphoma. After Immunohistochemistry, ultrasounds, biopsies of lymph nodes, more blood work, flow cytometry of blood......
Single site Cutaneous Small Cell T-cell lymphoma. Options: surgery, radiation, chemo
SURGERY: would take half her face, she would still require chemo
RADIATION: no radiation sites within 2 hours of our farm in Hartford, NY, but Tufts is 20 minutes from our old house in Worcester, MA... lymphoma responds very well to radiation. CHEMO: lymphoma responds well to chemo
Decision: 15-16 radiation treatments +/- followed by CCNU chemo. Best chance for a CURE and "normal" lifespan. Otherwise, basically her face would erode away, become painful and we would have to put her to sleep. She's only 9. So, for the first 3 weeks in March we did the chemo thing. She is now "cured" :)
