First Rodeo Foster Kitten!
Returned to PACC for biting, (obviously a kitten that had been terrorized) shelter named him Captain Nibbles, 😳 first up was a rename to Desmond - Desi. A handsome name for a handsome tux kitty. 🐈‍⬛
With decompress time, and cuddles, and active appropriate play he was back to adoptable in a few weeks.
Our Foster volunteer journey began with this cutie. ❤️

Truly complex yet we have faith & prayers for these pups that had no say in their situations.
Perhaps New Mexico will aid?
So many kind and knowledgeable pet owners in that state. Did you know Santa Fe Shelter and Espanola Humane shelter work with each other to aid each other? Perhaps if PACC does the s/n & basics vaccinations they have a chance out of state? A thought - a discussion as all adults in animal welfare can do!
I see transports have been offered up, we can do this. Cattle dog breeds are resilient and smart, give them all they need to find home. A real home. 🏠

UPDATE: Cucumber, Kit Kat, and Skittles are all safe!

THANK YOU to everyone that has shared, adopted, and rescued these little ones!!!

URGENT DEADLINE - 5pm 8/7/24 - 12 puppies at PACC need lifesaving support

Due to PACC coordinating two large impounds of dogs, they are in the midst of a managed intake for over 50 cattle dog mixes that have been consistently found at large and involved in altercations with livestock, including chickens. These dogs will be brought into the shelter in small groups over the next few weeks and will undergo a mandatory quarantine period due to their exposure to livestock. During quarantine, they will receive preventative treatment and a behavioral evaluation to determine their placement.

Due to PACC’s severe overcrowding as well as this group’s lack of socialization, they anticipate that many of these dogs will be placed on a deadline soon after their entry to the shelter.

The first group of dogs consists of 12 young pups between 4 months to 2 years of age. They have been nicknamed the “Snack Pack” due to their food-based names. While they are shy and nervous with minimal exposure to normal household routines, they are already warming up here at the shelter. PACC believes this group can be rehabilitated with the right support that unfortunately is more than the shelter currently has the resources to provide.

All these dogs will be placed on an emergency placement deadline FOR ADOPTION ONLY through PACC. Although these dogs are currently in our livestock quarantine, they are cleared for adoption and can meet potential adopters and participate in dog introductions. At time of adoption (or rescue transfer), they will receive any remaining antibiotics to take home and will be scheduled to return to PACC for spay/neuter appointments.

So! Meet the ‘Snack Pack’, a group of 12 dogs who are used to living life out on their own. These pups are shy and nervous at first and need a patient adopter to allow them time to warm up to new people and situations. The pack has spent the majority of their young lives running at large, and need a home that can properly contain them. They do not do well with livestock as a pack and would do best in a home without large livestock or chickens. These dogs have spent their entire lives together, but unfortunately due to livestock exposure have not yet been able to be evaluated with dogs inside of PACC walls.

These pups are looking for a special home willing to give them time to adjust. They may do best with another confident dog in the home to show them the ropes of how to live with a family. They are shy, but have the potential with time and patience to open up. They need someone understanding enough to give them space and with the time to work on handling and leash training. If you are interested in providing one of these pups with a quiet, supportive home where they can learn what it means to be someone’s best friend, please come meet them!

We are expecting more details on the individuals pictured below. (links to their individual profiles are in the comments) We wanted to post them as soon as possible to give them the best chance at finding placement out of the shelter. They will need to find adoptive homes or rescue placement by 5pm Wednesday 8/7/24.

Next HASS webinar Tuesday Aug 8th - 3:00 PM AZ
" Why are people interested in adopting pets leaving shelters empty handed? "
Shelters, Fosters that handle adoptions, and Rescues may all find the information helpful. Volunteers are welcome to attend.

Turns out the shelters + themselves may have more of a role that you think. Join Amanda Foster, Assistant Director of Research & Data for HASS, as well as Heidi Martson, PetSmart Charities Director of Pet Placement Initiatives, to discuss how five different shelters began implementing people-centric best practices to better understand the WHY behind their adoption conversion rate, and provide you with the tangible tools and initiatives organizations can use today to aid in increasing adoptions.

ALL are welcome, volunteers especially.
Join HASS live Tuesday, August 6th at 5 p.m. CST!
Register ahead if unable to attend live, a recording will be emailed. Rodeo will be there, hope you can make it.

Kitten / Kitty adoption Fiesta ole’
🧡❤️💛🩵❤️
Such a grand idea we are sharing it again, to help encourage more opportunities for the hundreds of PACC pets housed with Foster Volunteers.
Three key areas that need support in the PACC Foster Program:
1. Petfood-nutrition provisions always not occasionally. No more pet food financial burdens to foster volunteers.
2. Vaccine clinics for Foster pets.
3. Access to dog behavioral training.
4. Adoption events and marketing focus for pets in Foster homes.

Rodeo Kittens fostered in Tucson Arizona would love to see PACC kitty Fosters have access to these kinds of community adoption events.
Planned events to schedule for, with simple accessibility to vaccines & s/n for PACC Foster Volunteers to not spend hours waiting at PACC for services.

The heart message here is pet joy, not despair at Espanola Humane.
The little shelter in Northern New Mexico that does ✔️
Best ever Cattitudes 🐈

Recommend to follow FB - free vaccine clinic and more.
We can do this in Pima County 🤠

Appreciate the Foster Volunteer recognition, beautiful images‼️
Today 800-1000 PACC owned pets are cared for and housed with Foster Volunteers in private homes.
It’s time the Pima County PACC general budget was updated to include nutritional supplies aka pet food to all Foster Parents.
Fostering should never financially burden volunteers or their families. 😿
All PACC pets at the shelter or housed with volunteers need to be provided for equally.
National municipal shelter standards for Foster Programs are to provide food and supplies.

We ask PACC leadership to fully support these caring & generous people.
❤️ Thank you.

It’s beyond time.
So glad to see PACC’s efforts to try and support everyone in our Pima County Pet Community.
All pet owners should feel welcomed and understood.
The demographics have always been here, good to see PACC make a stronger effort to reach out and really connect.
Honor and recognition of cultures within Southern Arizona

"We have a huge Spanish-speaking population that wasn't engaging with us, and we needed to figure out why," says Michele Figueroa, Program Manager at Pima Animal Care Center in Tucson, Arizona. "We also realized that the RTO rates were extremely low in two high zip codes for Spanish speaking. They also weren't reporting their lost animals."

PACC created a campaign reaching out specifically to those Spanish speakers when they made this connection. These assets and more have room for your organization's logo and are available to you courtesy of PACC at this link: https://bit.ly/3LBUMYp

Hear more from Michele Figueroa along with Kaitlyn Pappas (PACC), Nick Walton (Best Friends Animal Society), and Lorien Clemens (PetHub) at our Return to Home webinar, "Lost and Loved: Empowering Your Community to Get Lost Pets Home," on Wednesday, August 7, at 5pm ET. Mega crisis at PACC Pima Animal Care Center.
What is not mentioned enough is the 1000 PACC adoptable pets housed with Foster Volunteers.
Selecting a pet from Foster Care, frees up an existing space so the volunteer may foster again helping the shelter. You will know more about the pet from their caregiver, a huge plus!
All adoptions are fee FREE, + low cost license

This list of ways to aid in the ongoing crisis is a good one, please join in the efforts to save PACC pets. Thank you.

Search for adoptable pets in FOSTER homes here: https://www.pima.gov/2558/Adopt-a-Pet

Many folks say that they've heard about our space crisis, but they don't know how they can help since they can't foster or adopt.

We understand - in fact, most of our staff and volunteers are in the same boat. The good news is that there are lots of ways to help that don't require taking a pet home.

Here's a few of the ways YOU can help today without fostering or adopting:

1. Share our posts and tell people you know about what's happening at PACC. Your coworkers, friends, family, the person behind you in line at the store - make sure everyone you know knows that if they're ready for a new pet, we need them! All adoptions are currently FREE!

2. Put a collar and tag with up-to-date information on your dog. Today. We very rarely see dogs with collars and tags come into the shelter, because if they did get lost, they've already been able to get home thanks to the tag. We can't emphasize it enough: Tags are the quickest way for lost pets to get home. If you need a tag for your pet, PLEASE come to PACC. We offer them for free to anyone who needs one, any time we're open thanks to Friends of PACC.

3. Volunteer! Everything from dog walking to socializing kitties to reading to our pets via our Pets and Pages program makes a positive impact on shelter pets. Learn more at pima.gov/paccvolunteer.

4. Take a dog on a Day Trip or Pawjama Party! A break of even a couple of hours can make a dog 5 times more likely to be adopted, and a simple overnight makes a dog 14 times more likely to be adopted. You can truly change a dog's life in just a couple of hours.

5. Help lost pets get home. The shelter should be considered a last resort and a haven for sick, injured, and aggressive pets. If you find a healthy, friendly lost pet, please use tools like lost.petcolove.org's image recognition technology, flyers, social media, and simply walking the pet around the neighborhood before bringing them to the shelter.

6. Donate, whether that's needed items like pet food and towels and blankets, or monetarily through Friends of PACC. Every little bit helps. 💙

Thank you to everyone who has fostered, adopted, or done any of the above. It matters - to the pets and to us. 💙

Calling all kitten foster volunteers, new or seasoned caregivers. Grab a carrier and head to Pima Animal Care Center 🔜
Review carefully potential kitten foster medical records, match your abilities and experience to the foster pets in need. Ask about vaccinations and trips needed to return to PACC for those all important vaccines plus a Spay/Neuter schedule.
Insist to be provided same day all you need in pet food and supplies as Fostering should never be a financial burden.

Joining the PACC Foster Volunteer facebook group for peer support is highly recommended.
Consider co-fostering!
Fostering is so rewarding and indeed work to insure the health, socialization, and marketing for adoption is a success for kitties and YOU 😻
Check comments for the Kitten Lady website, Hannah is so helpful.

KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED! We've had an influx of kittens over the past couple of days, many of whom need a little extra TLC. If you can help foster, please email [email protected] or come to PACC! 💙

Guess what is NOT happening again?
NO meeting today by Pima Animal Care Center Advisory Committee, second cancelation for the year.
From the Pima County website:
ANIMAL CARE ADVISORY COMMITTEE AGENDAS, MINUTES & INFORMATION
Notice of Cancellation
Notice is hereby given to the general public that the July 11, 2024, meeting of the Pima Animal Care Center Advisory Committee has been cancelled. The next regular meeting will be held on August 8, 2024.

Having attended the June meeting and hearing the roll call of voting members that could attend in July, there were 5.
I, Nancy Kate Grayson aka Rodeo feel it was unnecessary to cancel the PACC AC July meeting.
These voting members voiced attendance for July:
Lara Paris - District 1
Laura O'Brian Friends of PACC & Co-Chair
Dr. Gail Smith - Board of Health Representative
Tammi Barrick - Chair & County Administrator
Charlie Shumway - New registered PACC volunteer (Unknown July availability)
Kristin Almquist - District 4 (absent in June)
Non voting members - PACC Director, Monica and Friends of PACC’s Torre's being out of town for the Best Friends Conference does not affect the duty to hold a PACC AC meeting and do the vital WORK that needs to be done in this time of crisis.
PACC Pets and our community need these adults to honor the sworn duty to meet and honor the mission statement.
PACC-AC Mission: To review and evaluate operations and policies of the Pima Animal Care Center to assure the center keeps pace with the most modern practices and procedures of animal welfare.

Canceling meetings “anticipating" the might not be 5 members required for role-call is quite questionable.
Those absent in June were unable to voice July’ attendance, unless they planned to miss additional meetings? And if a member is chronically absent, it is time to replace that member per the rules with a person that will attend & work.
Details, Agendas, Meeting Minutes and more here:
https://www.pima.gov/2342/Animal-Care-Advisory-Committee

Note a correction to May’s meeting minutes has not been done as promised for Nancy Kate Grayson’s Call to the Audiance speech & concerns. I WAS in favor of the PACC Tour by the committee. I was not in favor of canceling a PACC AC meeting to give 8 weeks so members could stop in.
Some did, some did not.

PACC Foster volunteers and Foster program advocates
please join us at this free shelter BUDGET calculator live webinar what is needed to properly fund the Pima Animal Care Center Foster Program that currently houses 1000 PACC owned pets in private pima county homes.
1000 pets - not a typo.

Tuesday July 30, 24 3:00 PM Arizona time
Free online live webinar presented by:
HASS - Human Animal Support Services will share its new free BUDGET calculator program.
Register here: https://bit.ly/3xvfupL

This PACC program is not sustainable in its present form and needs concerned supporters to gain the knowledge of what IS needed to support this program FULLY.
FACT the PACC Foster program is not funded under the PACC Pima County general budget.
It is time to present the facts to Pima County Supervisors that this program is deserving of PACC General Budget funding.
Foster Volunteers should not be financing hundreds of thousands of dollars for pet food and supplies.
This is not the national standard for Foster Programs, programs supply pet-food. Taking advantage of Foster volunteers has created a financial burden to volunteer
Pima County households.
PACC Director Ms Dangler stated in January at the PACC AC meeting (on record) she anticipated no changes to the Foster program, and also stated there is always room for improvements. Lets focus on improvements, please.
From staff salaries to pet nutrition the life saving PACC Foster Program deserves solid funding.

You are welcome to register and review the recorded session post event. We encourage the entire Pima Animal Care Center Advisory Committee & Pima Alliance for Animal Welfare to attend and or review the session for further knowledge of this free budget tool available to PACC to aid the Foster Program, Foster Pets and the devoted Volunteers that care for, house, and love these PACC pets.
PACC has recently acknowledged there are 3000 Foster Volunteers. These dedicated volunteers w arrant equal treatment to national and local standards.
It is wrong to discriminate against PACC Foster Pets by not supplying equal nutritional access as PACC Shelter animals.
It is time to truly be the Best in the West in Fostering.

More about the HASS LIVE session:
"Never enough budget: an all-too common problem in animal welfare. HASS wants to showcase a new budget calculator tool created to garner more municipal funding, community support and address the chronic underfunding shelters unfortunately face daily. This webinar, led by APA!
President & CEO, Ellen Jefferson, and Senior Director of Research & Development, Maggie Lynch, will cover how to use the HASS Budget Calculator and its results to advocate for budgets appropriate to meet the public's expectations around humane care and shelter lifesaving."

BRAVO!!
