A Tail-Wagging Thank You from Koda on National Therapy Animal Day
Hi friends,
Ten years ago, I put on my vest for the very first time. I didn’t know then just how many lives I’d touch—with a wag, a nuzzle, or just lying quietly next to someone who needed comfort.
Since then, I’ve visited hospitals, schools, colleges, support groups, community events, bereavement circles—you name it. I’ve been there through tears and laughter, anxiety and hope. I didn’t always understand the words, but I always understood the feelings.
This National Therapy Animal Day, I’m not just thinking about my own journey—I’m thinking about you. All of my therapy animal pals and your incredible handlers. You show up with tails high, paws steady, and hearts wide open. Whether you’re greeting kids in a school hallway or calming someone before surgery, you’re making magic happen.
Together, we’ve built something amazing. Because of you—and with a little help from my Code Koda training program—we’ve grown from 6 teams to 26 across Maine, and from 250 to almost 1,000 hours of visits a year. That’s a whole lot of belly rubs and smiles!
So here’s how we can celebrate today, dog to dog (and handler to handler):
• Send a bark of thanks to a fellow team.
• Invite a new pup to join the mission.
• Ask your local humans to declare April 30 as Therapy Animal Day.
• Share your story—it could inspire someone to join us.
• Or give in honor of a dog who changed your life (we do love being honored). https://give.northernlighthealth.org/campaign/643548/donate
I may be getting a little grayer around the muzzle, but my heart’s still full. Thanks for walking beside me all these years. Keep wagging, friends.
With love and biscuits,
Koda
