Today, Fiona had to visit the equine hospital to get a better look at what was going on in her mouth. She had a runny nose and a faint smell of infection coming from her left nostril and our farm vet didn’t have the ability to treat here at home. Luckily, we have an equine hospital nearby so today, Fiona got the care she needed. She was given light sedation and the dr found that her teeth don’t grind down in a typical way and despite our home vet floating (filing) her teeth they had developed an edge that caused an ulcer. Fiona is only 180 lbs, which is incredibly small even for a mini horse, so the hospital has better, smaller tools and were able to float her teeth perfectly which will allow her ulcer to heal. He also took X-rays to see if anything else was going on with her mouth. For now, he believes the ulcers were the only issue to handle and sent her home with fresh teeth and antibiotics. I am relieved to have her back home with her family. If you’re able to help with her hospital bill we’d appreciate it so much!
Just Diva Small Pants doing diva things. Imagine making everyone wait for water so you can itch your stomach 😭
Yesterday, I said goodbye to a great love of my life, Tulip. Many of you have been with us for years and watched Tulip’s incredible journey. She came to us to heal after suffering decades of abuse and neglect and it was my honor every single day to care for her and be her safe place. She was an incredible soul and I will desperately miss her. I promised her I’d always care for her daughter Josie and thanked her for all she taught me about what’s important in life, what trust really looks like and how incredible strength can look quiet. Forever Team Tulip 🌷❤️
Josie is going to help, whether you want it or not! Tulip is the sweetest most gentle lady, it’s amazing that such a sweetheart could birth such a wild, spicy, muppet! Does anyone remember Josie’s surprise birth almost 5 years ago?!
Elsa & Teddy would live off of cold watermelon if given the chance
Diva Small Pants wasn’t acting like herself Monday night and we quickly assessed her and started treating her for colic. She has always been more sensitive and prone to colic. Colic is a painful stomach ache that can be mild to life threatening and always needs to be tended to immediately. I gave her meds and started walking her but it became clear this wasn’t a typical colic situation and Diva needed her vet. At almost 9pm our amazing equine veterinarian Dr. B was on the way. Diva was in a lot of pain and we could feel her gut spasm. Dr. B gave her IV pain meds right away and put a tube into her stomach to get soothing meds and hydration directly into her stomach. She stayed with Diva and I until almost 11pm to watch how Diva responded and once she felt confident Diva would recover at home she gave directions on how to help Diva through the night. Thankfully, around 1am Diva started to feel much better. She started banging the stall gate with her nose, flinging water buckets, calling for her friends and returning to her beautifully unruly self. As a precaution for the next month, she’ll be on ulcer treatment meds to sooth her gut. If you’d like to help us with Diva Small Pants’ vet bill, we’d be so grateful!

I met Clover 5 years ago in a gas station parking lot. She had recently gone blind and her person was giving her away. She is sweet, shy, loves hand picked grass and has reluctantly accepted that Joey, her bunny neighbor, is very much in love with her. Clover’s favorite hay is in our Amazon Wishlist (link below) if you’d like to send her a special gift! Our wishlist is full of items that we need if you’re looking for a great way to help! 🐰❤️

Gambler, Josie, Tulip, Peep & Elvis enjoying a quiet sanctuary morning.
When you share your life with animals you certainly experience beautiful moments. You also experience moments like running full speed across a pasture, in the rain, screaming PEACHES because you’re absolutely convinced she’s nuzzling a raccoon. Tired and wet you arrive to discover she was playing with a stick with a bunch of dried leaves on it. 🤷🏻♀️
Noah went full loaf mode 🍞
Today, we purchased more hay to make sure we have plenty for the rest of the season. Winters here are a constant cycle of putting out hay, dragging fields and hoping for two days in a row without rain!
Meet Elsa! It’s not always physical healing that’s necessary. Sometimes, the worst scars are ones we can’t see. Right now, Elsa is terrified of people and does not want anyone touching her. It’s taken hours of being near her, sitting quietly in her pasture for her to allow me to be this close. With time and one positive interaction after the next, we’ll get there.

Meet Harley! He is one of the three horses we recently rescued. Our vet estimates him to be about 8 years old. He has a big fluffy winter coat right now but under that he is all bones. He is now getting proper nutrition, vet care and soon will see the farrier to give his hooves a much needed trim. Welcome to FOR handsome boy, you’re no longer alone.
Donations for his care can be made on our website:

Meet Paisley! She is one of the three mini horses we recently rescued. It didn’t take long for her to become curious about her new life. She’s still a baby, not even 3 years old yet. It’s heartbreaking to know what she’s already been through in her short life but she’s already shown that she’s ready to move on from her past and explore all her new life has to offer.
