This little guy is figuring it out. We are learning too cause we have no idea what we’re doing.

We finally finished shearing the adult sheep. We did a few at a time and David saw the chiropractor twice, but they’re done. The first picture is of our old girl ( #14) who knows that shearing isn’t the end of the world. Much easier to shear when they don’t wiggle around the whole time. Second pictures is of a ewe ( #109) we’re gonna breed this next season. We decided to leave the top knot, cause why not. It makes us laugh every time we see her. And lastly, the third picture is of a January ewe lamb ( #113). She’s 3/4 Suffolk/1/4 Katahdin. Comes from one of our favorite current ewes. She consistently produces nice large lambs every year. Her lambs last year were the largest of the bunch. This lamb is no exception. She would make a great addition to anyone’s breeding program for either commercial sheep or as a recip ewe.

The shearing of sheep commences. We got our ram, Taz (who will be for sale late this fall) and Vlad done tonight. Vlad is a merino wether who is our least favorite to shear, but he’s done. The pile of wool pictured is only about 1/2 the wool so far.

I was trying to rake up the barnyard and Wimpy thought he would “help” aka stand in my way at all times.

This periodic 80° weather is stressing the sheep out with all their wool. Our shearer hasn’t given us a date for when he’s coming out, so we’re slowly working on shearing a few sheep a day ourselves instead of waiting. We’ve gotten 8 done so far. One of them today looked like an alpaca when we were done. Another one got away and tried to be fine with being half sheared. We got her back and finished her up. Tomorrow we should get a few more done.

Checking sheep today. Weighing lambs. Wimpy is the easiest to weigh. He just hangs there like “okay this is my life now.” Everyone is gaining well and looking good. Our new ram lamb is getting along fine. He’s a January lamb from Auville Farm. I’ll try to get some better pictures later, but I’m looking forward to seeing how he matures.

Mouse is not a fan of her yearly bath, blowout/brushout. We’ll have to do it again in a few weeks since there still seems to be some undercoat left and it’s been way too hot for that recently. She smells so clean and is so fluffy!!

Our little bottle lamb (aka Wimpy) is still kicking. He’s doing well and loves to follow the kids around for attention. We even get some little lamb hops and skips out of him when he’s feeling froggy.

Pinky is starting to look better with the extra feed. She’s learned to go to the stall so we can feed her seperate (with her lambs usually). She’s still skinnier than I would like, but I don’t think she’ll gain much more until we wean her lambs in about a month. Her lambs are doing phenomenal like always.
