Hans has landed in South Africa 🌍
He arrived in good condition and in a happy mood. He enjoyed a stay in Johannesburg overnight before heading north to where he is now on a reserve bonding with his new handler and acclimatizing to the environment with all its new smells, animals (rhinos are close by) and the heat.
It is tough sending a dog off to their work, and in most cases you don't get many updates. Chrisjan from Kilo9 Academy has been sending me videos daily and this makes the process so much easier to see how he is integrating.
Hans is in South Africa forever; hunting poachers will be his life. He is just beginning his journey and I look forward to seeing his contribution to conservation over the coming months and years.

Bon voyage Hans ✈️
Hans flew out yesterday for Sydney to undergo his final veterinary check by DAFF staff. Today he was issued his final health certificate, which will permit his export from Australia and his import into South Africa. Tomorrow he boards his flight to Johannesburg.
I cried a lot saying farewell to him; the bond we have is strong and it hurts to send him off. However, it would be worse to keep him. I raised him to become a working dog and contribute in a positive manner in this world. A surgeon does not spend years studying just to never operate on a patient. It would be a disservice for Hans not to go do what he trained his whole life to do.
Thank you to everyone who has donated money to getting Hans overseas. Without everyone’s generous support, this would never have happened. I will share a link to all the invoices and receipts once I finalise the payment to Kilo 9 Academy to cover Hans transport from Johannesburg to Zululand so anyone can see exactly where their money has gone.
Hans represents a community’s worth of effort. My wife and family supported me on the home front to go train Hans, as well as laying tracks, and looking after him whilst I was away. All the tracklayers who spent cumulatively hundreds of hours hiding for me. Jay, Katie, and Cam win the ‘prize’ of laying the most tracks. Honourable mention to my in-laws as well for many tracks laid too. Jay also took a huge amount of bites from Hans, even going as far as to wear some pork rind for bite work and copping a tooth pe*******on in the process. It took a village, and Hans is a direct reflection of all the help received in the process of developing.
The updates will keep coming; he has his work cut out for him once he lands. I am confident he will do us all proud.

I am donating Hans and sending him to South Africa to protect Rhinos, but I need help to fly him over there✈️
This has been a challenging decision as I have invested two years and around $10,000 into Hans and will see no return on my investment. I am not a rich man, and this has been very hard on my family as I am the main provider.
Hans is an amazing dog and will do incredibly important work directly contributing to the preservation of Rhinos in South Africa by tracking down and apprehending poachers. There are few jobs for a dog which I believe offer such an impact for good in the world.
I know how hard times are financially for everyone. Even a small donation would make a difference. Your money will go directly to getting Hans on a plane, which will enable him to do good work so future generations might see Rhinos in the wild, instead of on Google images (or a zoo if they're lucky).
