♥️TRAVIS TUESDAY♥️

I wasn’t sure whether to run with Travis Tuesday today as we’ve had a big set back with little Cleo.

After posting the video of her yesterday morning tucking into her breakfast at around 2 pm she became unwell. Something just wasn’t right so I rushed her to the vet.

On examination her temperature was quite low so they kept her in and gave her subcutaneous fluids.

I was so worried and upset I popped up to the vet before they closed at 7 pm to see how she was. The vet isn’t manned overnight so I was given the option to take her home with me which I did.

She’s warm, comfortable and sleeping here in familiar surroundings. I have absolutely no idea why things have gone so wrong so quickly. She was doing so well, now this. It’s heartbreaking 💔

I had such high hopes for her but it looks like it just wasn’t to be. I hope I’m wrong I really do. I’ll keep you all updated but please keep our beautiful girl in your thoughts. ♥️

Travis Tuesday is still running today for your donations if you want to support us in what we do.

♥️YES! COME ON CLEO!!!♥️

Sorry for the swear word in this video but how fantastic is this?

Little Cleo hasn’t eaten on her own for ten days. She was too weak to stand. I’ve been syringe feeding her convalescent food and water every two hours to keep her hydrated. She absolutely hated it. She started the ‘miracle meds’ on Friday evening. After just four doses this is the result. I’ve seen this drug in action once before on our Micky. At £639.90 a bottle it’s money well spent if you value the life of a cat/kitten. I understand that’s a lot of money but hopefully the price will come down eventually.

Cleo will probably need another bottle, maybe two to complete the course but we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. This drug has saved thousands of cats from a nasty death.

At the moment I’m concentrating on watching her go from strength to strength and getting those back legs stronger.

FIP is hard to diagnose. Cleo’s test results were vague but some pointed roughly to FIP so we got cracking on the medication and after just 2.5 days she’s eating on her own and looking so much brighter. I’m so happy I could cry.

Have a great day everyone and thank you once again for your continued support. ♥️

♥️CLEO UPDATE♥️

Just had to post a little video of Cleo’s progress.

She started on her course of medication on Friday evening. She’s had four doses so far. The difference in her is already noticeable. She has a lot more movement in her back legs and is generally much brighter.

The cost of a small bottle is £639.90 but it’s worth every penny if it saves her life. This is the second cat I’ve had on this medication and he’s completely cured. It really is a miracle. She’ll probably need another bottle, maybe two but we’ve committed to the treatment now and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Thank you all so much for your support with little Cleo’s treatment and all the other cats here. You are all absolutely amazing. We’ll keep you all updated on her progress but we are hopeful for her future. She’s just the sweetest soul.

Have a good evening everyone.♥️

♥️NOT THE BEST DAY♥️

Yesterday I had an appointment with Jeeves and Cleo at the vet.

Jeeves has been losing weight and after examination the vet suspected a tumour in his abdomen. A scan did pick up a mass and the vet took some fluids from the mass to go off to the lab. He also had a sore eye so she did a pressure test and he has some eye drops. As if he hasn’t got enough problems he also tested positive for FIV. I’m not really concerned about the diagnosis as FIV cats can live quite happily but to be honest that’s the least of his problems. It’s the tumour that concerns me. I’ll await the lab results but the prognosis is bleak I’m afraid. He’s back home now and we will monitor him carefully.

Cleo the little kitten is still not eating. I’m still syringe feeding her convalescent food and fluids. Yesterday she had subcutaneous fluids at the vet. Her diagnosis is a little more tricky. I think she has FIP. I’ve had a cat with FIP before. Some of the tests she’s had have pointed towards her having FIP others are more vague.

It’s important to point out that In the past FIP has been a death sentence but not any more. FIP is a mutation of the corona virus which cats can carry without any problem. When the virus mutates into FIP that’s when the problem starts. There is a new drug available that was discovered when they were working on our corona virus which is extremely effective and can turn a really poorly cat around in less than 48 hours. Micky our previous FIP cat is totally cured. The drug is given orally. It truly is a miracle drug!

The problem is the drug is quite expensive at around £700 a bottle. I’ve ordered a bottle for little Cleo. FIP is hard to diagnose and it may not be FIP but we have to give it a go. It won’t harm her if she doesn’t have FIP but left as she is she will die. This relatively new drug really does work. Our Micky is proof.

As soon as the medication arrives I will start her on it. Depending on the dosage hopefully she will only need one bottle. The course of treatment lasts around 30ish days with blood tests along the way.

People often say they envy me as I have their ‘dream job’ but believe me it’s not always what it seems on the surface. We’ve lost a few cats this year but go above and beyond to help all of them.

Please keep these two little souls in your thoughts and prayers and thank you all for your support. I’ll keep you updated on their progress.

If you would like to contribute to the ongoing costs for any of the cats here there’s a JustGiving page pinned to the top of our page or you can donate straight into the bank.

🙏THANK YOU🙏

Little Cleo, Wh**ey Wilson and all the cats would like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone that took part in Travis Tuesday yesterday.

We raised an incredible £587! That included a few larger donations one of £400 from one of our supporters Jenny Frances. Thank you everyone.

We have three year old Jeeves going to the vet for a scan tomorrow. He’s been losing weight. Bloods have all come back clear. The vet suspects there could be a tumour somewhere.

Little Cleo is still under the vet. Although she’s brighter today she will go to the vet tomorrow for another check up.

We’ve also had another cat food delivery which has turned my kitchen into a warehouse again until it’s all unpacked. We had 18 boxes containing 120 pouches in each. Two of those were donated by Alice Kirby. ♥️

So, as you can imagine all of your donations are very much appreciated.

Thank you once again. Have a good day everyone! ♥️

♥️CLEO UPDATE♥️

Little Cleo seems to have picked up a little bit over the weekend. She’s very bright and alert and purring but she still can’t stand or walk properly.

I’m syringe feeding her special convalescent food and making sure she has enough water so she doesn’t get dehydrated also by syringe. It takes a while because she doesn’t want it but it’s worth it.

Shes getting stronger because she tries to push me away when I’m feeding her. She doesn’t really want food but she has to have some nourishment and of course fluids. Little and often. She’s purring when fussed which means she’s happy.

Today I had a discussion with the vet to get a sensible plan of action. Cleo had more bloods taken that will be sent off to the lab. It’s more expensive than in house bloods but we need to establish what’s wrong with her in order to know what we’re dealing with. We can’t give up on her.

Enjoy your evening everyone. ♥️

08/12/2024

♥️CLEO♥️

A lot of you have been asking how Cleo is.

She’s about the same. No improvement but she certainly hasn’t got any worse. I’m feeding her a small amount by syringe every two hours and giving her water. Last right I thought her mobility had improved but today she’s just dragging her back legs. She has movement in them but she can’t walk. It’s upsetting to watch and I really don’t hold out much hope that it will get any better.

She’s not in pain. She’s purring and enjoying a fuss but it’s about quality of life isn’t it. As soon as I have any more information I’ll let you know. This definitely is the downside of rescue work.

♥️AT THE VET AGAIN♥️

We were at the vet again this morning with a follow up appointment with little Cleo.

We still aren’t sure exactly what’s wrong with her. Blood tests came back ok. The vet thinks it could be neurological. They tried to take her blood pressure but she’s just so small they couldn’t get a reading.

She’s not eating or drinking and she’s wobbly on her feet. She falls over when she’s placed on the ground. She’s very weak. It’s just all very worrying. I think we’re going to lose her.

Please don’t judge me on this but I don’t make snap decisions when it’s an important one regarding the life of a cat or any animal. Life is precious. She’s not in pain, she’s quite alert and enjoying cuddles and is purring for England when you pick her up.

I’ve brought her home and I’ll syringe feed her to try and get some nutrients into her. She’s comfortable and nice and warm in her crate in our back lounge where we spend the evenings.

I’ll see how she is tomorrow and we’ll go from there. If we lose her at least she’s been given every possible chance.

Say a prayer for little Cleo please. ♥️

🙄WHAT A DAY🙄

It’s always busy here but boy oh boy yesterday was just one of those days.

I had a vet appointment yesterday with two cats. One was for a de matt with Flo. Affectionately known as ‘Av a Go Flo.

She lived up to her name yesterday and had to be sedated before they could do anything with her. She hasn’t got many teeth but her thunder paw was working overtime yesterday even after sedation!

The second cat was Jeeves. Lovely three year old laid back black and white boy. Jeeves has been losing weight so the vet did a range of bloods on him. Results came back ok but he’s just not well so he is booked in for a scan next Thursday.

Off home I went with the four cats. Hold on FOUR? I only went in with two! 🤔

Two eight week old kittens were found wandering on a dangerously busy road. Nobody is missing them. So, they came home with me. Meet Jack and Jill.

When I arrived home Michael met me on the drive with a worried look. One of Cassie’s kittens, Cleo wasn’t at all well. So, after getting the cats in the van sorted off I went to the vet again.

Cleo is thought to have some kind of viral infection. Her heart was racing but that could have been the journey. She was given subcutaneous fluids. The vet couldn’t get much blood out of her. I brought her home to her mum and sisters. She has a follow up appointment today at 11.50. She’s still not well this morning. She refuses to eat and of course I’m worried. I’ll keep you all posted.

Have a good day everyone. ♥️

We had another double adoption today as Sam and Harry went off to their new home with Richard and Lindsey. These two beautiful boys have been with us over a year. Why they’ve not been snapped up before we’ll never know.

Not related to each other they’re right characters, full of fun and so affectionate and of course absolutely beautiful.

Have a long and happy life in your new home boys. Be good but be happy! ♥️♥️

♥️TRAVIS TUESDAY♥️

Welcome to Travis Tuesday.

Travis Tuesday is where we ask all our followers to donate just £1 to help us care for the cats and kittens here at Travis. £1 may seem like a small amount to some but all your kindly donated £’s add up and really do make a difference.

As always a big THANK YOU to everyone that’s set up standing orders so you don’t forget your donation.

We have a few vet runs planned before Christmas for vaccines and microchips and the ever decreasing cat food pile keeps going down so please continue to support us wherever you can. It’s very much appreciated.

Have a good day everyone! ♥️

Travis Cat Rescue - Our Story

Travis Cat Rescue is an independent shelter for cats and kittens in need.

Here at Travis, we specialise in rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing services. Sometimes bad things happen to good cats, and we are here to help put that right. We are based in Newton Longville, near Milton Keynes, and operate within a 20 mile radius.

We believe in giving every cat and kitten the chance of a happy life and a loving home. We never put a healthy cat down, and we take great care in preparing our furry charges for life after the shelter.

There are many ways that you can help us. Whether its alerting us of a cat in need, offering support, or registering to adopt, we are always delighted to hear from anyone who wants to get involved.
