⚠️ This is a warning to all dog lovers to look out for the subtle signs your dog is struggling to digest something. Benji had swallowed a large round bone he found on the street. He wasn't choking and clearly able to breathe, however it was uncomfortable for him which he was communicating through body language. The signs displayed in this instance are continuous lip licking, lowered head, circling, lethargic but unable to rest, and drinking water but refusing food. Other signs may include wretching, vomiting bile/foam, a rigid or swollen abdomen. This video was made whilst waiting for the emergency vet to arrive. In these instances it is best to seek immediate medical attention and not to follow advice found on Google (which is mostly home remedies to make your dog vomit). Making your dog vomit without a vets advice is very dangerous. The bone may perforate the oesophagus requiring major surgery. You may also accidentally poison your dog with the ingredients suggested by Google. In Benjis case the bone was large and round, but unable to come back up the way it went in. The treatment in his case was to move the bone directly to the stomach where the acids will break it down over time. He required medication to reduce the inflammation to the area the bone had been lodged. Our advice for dog owners is to find out your nearest 24 hour emergency vets and add them to your speed dial list. It's amazing how quickly you forget how to type when faced with a dog in danger. Look out for subtle signs if you think your dog has eaten something they shouldn't have. Seek professional medical attention and do not attempt to Google home remedies (Your pet insurance is there for exactly these type of emergencies). Prevention is better than a cure, so teach your dog commands like 'Leave it' and 'Drop it' with high value items (not just their toys but food items too). Avoid areas where they are likely to scavenge street food especially around dinner times as they a

Florrie is a 4 year old vizsla who is in very good health. She has just been picked up for daycare with her favourite Fairy. She has had breakfast, been to the toilet and has water available. So is she just demanding fuss and cuddles or is there something she's trying to say? ... well in this case Florrie knows what an exciting day we have planned for her and she's ready to get the show on the road 😝 She is unable to settle knowing that shortly she'll be seeing her friends and running around in the park. She is not demand barking, she's just overexcited and needs a short time to calm down and regulate her emotions. We wait to see her give us a calming signal before we get ready to leave. Labeling all barking as demand barking can mean we miss what our dog is actually trying to tell us. They communicate with us through body language more than their voice, but that doesn't mean we should always shut down their conversations.
