Struggled with back ache today and Elsie did make me work for it but she did some really lovely work. It felt so easy and light.

Wow what an attitude change from last week (the delights of mares!)

Elsie worked really well, she was really part of my team today. Had some really nice canters and some more than passable ridden shows lol.

My first ride on Elsie🥹

She has always been so calm and level headed to ride, especially out hacking. For a just 5 year old I couldn’t believe just how ‘okay’ she was with herself and life outside the yard. She really is as cool as a cucumber.

I can’t believe how much she’s changed but at least the cheeky little face I fell in love with hasn’t🤪

Thought I would also introduce Elsie’s (more sensible😉) older sister.

I have had Olive in my life for 8 years and she is now a 19 year old lady enjoying a much quieter lifestyle.

Olive really is my heart horse and is one of life’s special souls.

Elsie has very big shoes to fill, but is doing the best job at doing so🫶🏼

Lesson run down:

Some really lovely work trot work from Elsie today. Working well from behind and showing some real presence.

You can tell she’s had a few days off whilst I have been away as I did have a few ‘why did I buy a youngster’ moments when being rocket launched in canter (a bit dramatic but it felt like it at times!) but I was graciously rewarded with some absolutely lovely work too.

Every week she gets stronger, fitter, smarter (that’s good for no one!!!) and more willing to work.

I always end my lessons grateful for the opportunity this horse presents me with and I hope I can ride her to her full potential!

You don’t get special without sass ✨

Elsie is a 6 year old Welsh D (Southway Rose Gold) sired by Rhencullen Vanilla Ice.

I bought Elsie in June 2022 and I am now currently getting her fit and ready for the 2024 novice showing season.

Lesson 27.11.23. Someone had a lot of energy after a duvet day today but luckily I was able to use it to produce some good work. Her canter is so much nicer (and stronger🤪) so now time to nail the transitions💪🏼

Schooling 10.11.23 - Last session before our show and I came away so pleased. Elsie was focused, supple and really soft. I like to start my ride with some sitting trot as I can engage my core more and give her the correct aids in a much softer, quieter way. I try not to ask or expect too much, she is only young and I have taken her schooling very slowly but I do love seeing some progress 🫶🏼

Lesson 06.11.23 - Challenging Elsie today with cantering smaller circles. Her canter work really is a massive work in progress as she doesn’t really know how to use her long grown up legs yet! However, after dealing with some rubbish riding from me she started to work really nicely☺️

Even with all the fireworks Elsie stayed so focused and willing. I can’t believe the horse I’m riding 6 weeks after our first lesson when she couldn’t even walk in a straight line🤩 03.11.23
