Happy Holiday Weekend,
The story below is another example of acting too soon ( = police officer Cowboy Mentality), poor communication and perhaps not having "a leash" on your beloved pup (note we are speaking about truly keeping an eye on your pooch so he/she does not get lost).

Teddy, a 13-pound dog, had escaped his outdoor kennel in Sturgeon, Mo., when police came to help find his owner. The city found no wrongdoing by the officer.

Every month we work together with The Unforgotten Souls who drive these very happy cats and dogs to DC. This month was huge! All together, 8 dogs and 27 cats and kittens are safe and in DC area foster homes this evening. Working together saves lives!

Looking for a sweet tabby treat? We've got a terrific th*****me in Taffy, Nougat, and Halvah, waiting to meet you at Oakland Animal Services. Kittens not your jam? We have over 40 felines of all ages ready to meet you!

Kittens under 6 months old are only adopted in pairs. The only exception is if the kitten is a single kitten without littermates, or comes from a litter with an odd number of kittens (e.g. a litter of 3 kittens) – in these cases, a single kitten may be adopted but only to a home with another young cat in the home.

If you're only ready to bring one cat home, we're happy to introduce you to some solo tweens or young adult cats!

Stop on by this weekend - we're open noon to 3 Friday through Sunday, ready to find you your new kitty!

This week (May 16 to 19) we are very short-staffed on our adoptions and foster teams due to several staff being out. Please be patient with us when you come by to adopt or foster.

Adoption fees for cats of all ages are only $20 and pairs are two-for-one.

It is interesting why we eat some animals and love others? One would think that after X amount of Pork an average well fed adult would have had enough? If you wouldn't consider eating "Babe" then why do we tolerate the screams heard from innocent Pigs hold up tortured and killed for a minutes pleasure on the lips enhancing the power of factory farms?
Animals are not our slaves, please sign the petition:). I'm not an Oracle but I am sure if Pigs could be out allies they would do if, for you - thank you:)!- Alyssia

Meet Ginger, the enchanting 2-year-old golden husky mix weighing in at 50 pounds. With her striking beauty and sharp intellect, Ginger is sure to capture your heart. Today is German Shepherd Day and here are just some of our German Shepherds and shepherd mixes that we have available for adoptions. If you like your dogs smart and loyal, double-coated, pointy-snouted, simultaneously regal and goofy, and all around awesome, then you might love a shepherd. Here at Oakland Animal Services, we've got them!

Our adoptable shepherds come in all ages - from just under a year (still in full puppy mode) to stately seniors, and everything in between. Lots of color combos, too, and we've even got a floofy one! You name it, we've got it in shepherd land.

Hi Friends, I had a talk today with Dottie Sisco founder of Great Pyrenees Association of California. She is amazing, spunky, compassionate - a real fighter and animal welfare advocate. Dottie is 86 years old and has been doing rescue work for over 45 years! You all know I am a true feline aficionado:) but I was also raised with dogs large and small, and frankly can not see a world without them:). Hi Friends, I can't believe this another story about overcrowding at Shelters! And if one is in the market for pure bred dogs- and cats what better place to find them - at a shelter! Please contact the Big Three: HUSU/ASPCA/ Best Friends and demand they put more effort into stopping breeders, and UP or implement their immigrant, ethnic and low income education aka (breeding, dog fighting, cat baiting, Animal Welfare Education - or aka how we roll in the US etc>) and stop promoting their need to have you give them $25 a month for? What are they doing with all of that money??? All of the same problems they have trying to "fix" are JUST GETTING WORST? Including the throwing away of dogs and cats many of which are now purebred? SMH, be safe - Alyssia

"I did my job, acted like a canine, baby sat while you were at Trader Joes, brought in the (wet) newspaper, kept the Mailman on his toes, used and closed the doggie door, ate your table scraps, made the popcorn and binged watched your favorite shows (with you), mastered the tricks you wanted me to demonstrate at your HS reunion, tolerated the visiting toddler pulling my tail and the house cat who ignored me, YET here I am at the shelter?" Your loving ex pup (blah, blah, blah)"

ICYMI - Here in SoCAL following the (end?) of the 2020 Pandemic, area animal shelters became FILLED with dogs people threw away after the stay in place at your own risk proxy was lifted and the same people tossed their bookcases, stale pallets of pasta and books they claimed to have read, and shared on Zoom.

Please help make dog breeding permits a thing of the past in Los Angeles County, for good! Angelenos have the pick of the litter, make, model and age - of dogs to choose from at area shelters and rescues who are literally dying for some sane loving person to come rescue them!

If you support the Big Three animal welfare Corporates posing as NPO's (HUSU, ASPCA, Best Friends) ask them to put their energy into a coordinated plan of action - REDUCTION of significant dog breeding (change in laws, perception and economy, increased law enforcement) and less Monty Gift Of - Tee Shirt production, perhaps we can make it much less profitable/socially acceptable for the lazy people who make their living or beefing up their disposable income - breeding dogs, and their fellow felines (including Pan Am smiling Soccer Moms, Bathtub Granny Breeders) ad nauseam and ad infinitum - a "family affair".

There are enough dogs of all ages breeds and temperaments to go around the United States a few times w/o breeding any more pups and offering breed permits to every Dick and Jane who has the couple of bucks to get one (tell D &J to get a Real Job perhaps working for an over crowded animal shelter and under funded rescue, and stop making their money off the backs of animals by literally breeding them to death)!

L.A. will stop issuing new dog breeding licenses in an effort to halt the overcrowding crisis at the city's animal shelters.

EAGLES ARE A LIVING SYMBOL OF AMERICA! HURTING THEM IN ANY WAY, IS CLEARLY UN-AMERICAN and the perpetrators should be tried for treason!
Eagles and other Birds are meant to be here, they are not on the earth for humans to kill them for their feathers, or hunt them down because bored individuals feel small and want to look "big" nor are Birds here to feed us, if that was the case they wouldn't have brains, hearts, and families of their own! Think about it, the first humans did not eat our feathered friends and grow to be a billion humans. We do not need to hunt, kill or eat Birds to survive, and if you don't hear/see Birds - even in densely populated urban areas there are other equally, destructive man made factors at play - recall the book Silent Spring by Rachel Carson? If you see anyone hurting a Bird report them, record their actions, publicly shame and or humiliate them on social media and make it hard for them to do this again (without injuring yourself) Birds would do it for you! LOL
