Miss Salty getting that tune up she had coming.

We have been told there’s a really broke pony in there- she’s just has an attitude 🤣.

Nothing our friend over at Just Country Quarter Horses can’t handle, then Salty will be available!

The ribs are fading, her butt and back isn’t looking so bony. 🫶

Merry has been wearing a boot while we wait to see Rocking Speer Ranch, LLP Farrier Services- and I’ll say, I’ve seen about a 75% improvement in her comfort. She still has a little limp here and there but not nearly as tender as she was. It gives me a lot of hope that with some good farrier care and TIME to grow that hoof out, she’s gonna be alright.

I cleaned her foot out last night, when she got here she was so sensitive on it- I could hardly touch it, now it’s nothing for me to clean it- so that’s encouraging.

Idk if I have ever really introduced myself. I guess I just figured most people knew the person behind FVR, but if you don’t- I’m Heather. 👋

I’m the typical …. “OMG, pull over…. I think I saw a dog.” Or “Babe, I have a random dog in my car.” Or “Hey, can we take this horse?”

And my family and friends will tell you I have been this way my entire life. And yes, it’s getting worse as I get older.

I have always felt I understood animals in a way that made more sense to me. I understand them easier than I do people. People are too complex, animals aren’t. I’ve always been good at disassociating the ugly that comes with rescue- and it comes from all the trauma and heartbreak I’ve endured in my own life.

I am a doer and always have been. I’ve started and stopped a lot of things in my life, and there has been many times I’ve told myself, “I’m gonna take a break from FVR. “ but this has been the ONE THING I never put down. It has become a big part of my life.

this is a small rescue, run entirely by me (mostly) with the help of my husband and my good friend Sue. I have a great network of friends who I can call on whenever I need help, and for the last 4+ years we have saved over 75 horses. Many of which are still alive and thriving.

I have jumped full force into finishing my B.S. in Animal Science (graduate next year) to help do this better and also to continue on doing what I love.

Thank you all for being here. We can’t do this without you.

(No, he isn’t dead….. he loved to lay down with me in the field 😂)

Thank you to all our donors and supporters, the Christmas crew got their dentals done last week.

That is the very first thing we do (unless of course we have medical emergencies)

TEETH ARE A HUGE CONTRIBUTION TO A LOT OF UNDERLYING PROBLEMS!

once we have teeth done, we generally have an idea of other things going on. How well the horse was cared for previously, their age, it is usually helpful in understanding why they are in the body condition they are too. Not saying it is in replacement of seeing a vet, but dentals are mandatory for all our horses and always will be.

These three get to bust out of quarantine in just a couple more days. And I know they can’t wait.

I’m very pleased with their weight gain, sniffles and coughs have subsided. Next thing coming up is farrier and vet.

Merry has been wearing a boot while we wait for our farrier and that boot has as made her 75% more comfortable. Which gives me so much hope for her recovery! We had some friends out here the other day and one is a farrier (not ours, he won’t take new clients 😂) but he did inspect her hoof for me and verified it was cut down to the quick- and he also believes her lameness is because of someone playing farrier (who has no business doing so)

The Christmas Crew is well on their way 🙌🏻

(The can tell time, they know exactly the time I get home from work and that it is dinner time. They wait at the gate like this every day for me to get home 😂❤️)

From scared and skinny and skiddish, to confident and beautiful.

As we start 2025 there are a few things that just have to happen if we are going to continue and one big one, unfortunately.... is we need to start the process of fundraising for a 'new to us' trailer.

Don't get me wrong, the trailer we have has a lot of sentimental value to me. I will probably cry when it's gone. That trailer and I have been all over this country and we have carried so many defeated horses to safety, but the time has come and we need something more reliable. $8500 sounds so daunting, but if we break it down to 170 people donating $50, that doesn't sound so crazy.

This is a tool, a tool we need to continue to do the job we are doing.

I spent almost all of 2024 writing grants and applying for grants for a new trailer, I reached out to many trailer manufacturers about donating a trailer, I reached out to local trailer dealerships about donating a trailer also and I was not given a response, not to one single letter I wrote. (I get it, I do) I applied to private grants, public grants, I spoke with grant writers, I researched, I used ChatGpt, I did it all, I promise....I hand wrote the letters, I sent emails, i filled out applications, I left voicemails... to no avail....so I am left trying to fundraise for one.

Our followers have always been the ones who come through when I have thought it was hopeless. I have never had to raise large amount of money for something materialistic though.

Can we do this?

I am asked ALMOST DAILY to take horses from surrounding states and a lot of the reasons I have to say no is because the cost of hauling. We can haul, but our trailer isn't for those long trips anymore.

This could be a combined effort of the 3000 followers we have or a serious conversation for an angel donor (I hear they exist) or if someone has a connection with a trailer, I would be interested. We aren't picky!

Cocoa (Rooster- that story coming soon) says THANK YOU to our special friend for the new blanket- just in time for the storm

Cocoa aka Rooster is from Florida so I was really worried about him with this huge storm coming and temps hitting 5 degrees.

If you know me- I will be the first one to tell you…. I do not blanket healthy horses if they have windblock, shelter, good flesh and thick winter coats. (Everyone has their own opinions)

But with the ice coming and the moisture and the low temps- everyone got blanketed. My personal horse doesn’t really know how she feels about it (she’s CHUNKY and FLUFFY) but even she got her emergency blanket on for this weather coming

STAY SAFE everyone!

Back to the 🎄CHRISTMAS CREW 🎄

Let’s welcome Snow. Although she’s in the best score condition, she’s the most defeated. She is super sweet, but stands alone and doesn’t care to eat. She loves attention but won’t come to your for it. I think (judging by the matted tail and mane) she’s been left out alone for a long time.

I’m hoping once she is done with quarantine and out of our dry lot- she perks up a little bit. She is in need of everything also. If you can help sponsor some of Snows needs, we would greatly appreciate it!

🚨 CAN ANYONE HELP- can be used…
I thought we had a blanket small enough to fit Cocoa, but we don’t 🚨

We are about to experience some really cold lows (maybe even be part of this polar vortex) if anyone can sponsor a size 66 blanket for Cocoa we would appreciate it so much!

Please message the page or comment if you can help!

Thank you so much
