UCI Rock Hounds alumni dog is up for adoption!
https://www.comprehensivecaninetraining.com/blog/2018/8/30/poisoned-cue
What is a “poisoned” cue? A poisoned cue is a cue that the dog has made a negative association with a cue. This is likely to happen when you decide to use punishment in your training. Your cue is no longer just a means of communicating to the dog what you’d it to do – it has become a sort of...
Fantastic Week 2 Intro to Training class. It was clear EVERY team did their homework and I couldn’t be more pleased. I’d give every team an A+ grade!
-
It was a privilege to be called back to help this family again. Very pleased with what we accomplished this evening laying a foundation and teaching new expectations. Thank you for the opportunity to work with you all again!
-
We worked on puppy training with Loki the GSD six years ago… I can’t believe it has been that long. Time flies when you’re doing what you love.
-
Almost three years ago we worked with Lambo, the Golden Retriever mix on this right.
-
Tonight we worked with Cody, the chocolate lab mix on the left. These just might be the luckiest dogs in the world and they certainly have the best cookies… I actually ate one it was great.
-
Heidi was a great barking decoy dog. This work is even better when I get to include one of my own dogs.
-
Group obedience classes will be coming in April on select Friday and Saturday afternoons/evenings. We will be putting together a puppy class, intro to obedience class, and starting “Saturday Night Sniff Club” for dogs on odor. If you’re interested in getting a spot, DM me.
-
A few of my favorite teams from K9NW at the end of our first group obedience class tonight. I sure do love those Columbia County sunsets!
-
Looking forward to shaping up some great obedience with these teams and I’m thrilled with the progress they all made in tonight’s class.
-
Great lesson with and their young humans.
-
Stay tuned for a cute new trick from Maggie and her gang, it’s in progress!
-
We had a great lesson discussing canine body language and how not all dogs enjoy the same love language. The same as humans. Some folks like hugs and other are repelled by them, the same goes for our pets. However, a dog may enjoy hugs from a certain person but nobody else. I don’t think my gang would let anyone else hug them like I do. There is nothing wrong with that!
-
Two students from this week. Sweet Labrador puppy and a whip smart English Cocker Spaniel.
-
A student recently asked if I only work with bigger dogs or working dogs. I offer training for all dogs from big to small, low drive to high drive, puppies to adolescents to adults.
-
I have the unique experience of coming up as a trainer in the all positive world and then becoming educated in a balanced approach to training. I’ve got a chill senior dog, a Rottweiler who can kick into high gear at the drop of a hat, and a Malinois that is high drive and “on” 99% of the time. This helps me have an understanding of what different teams are facing and working with, giving me the ability to adapt and adjust training quickly.

Lovely dogs at Lake City Humane Society ready for adoption!
Great dog looking for his forever home!
These dogs have training on them and are available for adoption. Check them out!
The Rock Hounds, trainers, and handlers had a very insightful and productive training session yesterday, provided by Comprehensive Canine Training! Cassie and her trainer and handlers worked on improving the trainer-dog relationship and positive reinforcement, and everyone worked on eye contact and focus by using the "look" command, along with recall.
All of our Rock Hounds are spayed or neutered and up to date on vaccinations, heartworm and flea & tick prevention. They also receive 10 - 12 weeks of basic obedience training to include leash etiquette, sit, down, wait, stay, leave it, look, and many more!
If you're interested in adopting a Rock Hound, contact us via messenger or email!

I think it’s time I reintroduce myself with a few facts about me.
-
1. I am a Christian, a practicing Christian doing my best to walk in my faith. God did me a solid this summer and called me back to the flock despite my initial resistance. He’s been connecting me with like minded people of faith ever since, it has been uncanny. The scales have fallen from my eyes.
2. Dressing well and pretty things make me incredibly happy.
3. Books are my favorite pass time. I love to read and don’t own a t.v. or membership to a streaming service… one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
4. Yoga is my favorite form of exercise and relaxation, especially hot yoga.
5. I am a balanced trainer that believes tool bans need to stop. Not everyone has to use all tools and that is fine. I was once an all-in positive trainer but I had the gift of a dog that taught me there is no one size fits all. It is not the tool that is the problem but the improper use of the tool. 90% of trainers on both sides want to do the best for the team in front of them, there is no one size fits all. I love animals and can spend all day watching or training them.
6. It isn’t the look of a dog but the “functionality” of a dog that gets me going. I love seeing dogs do work suited for them with handlers that bring out their best whether it be bite work, obedience, tracking or K9 Nose Work. Those crazy high drive dogs are my favorite!
7. Walking in the woods with my dogs is probably my favorite activity… I could do this for hours.
8. A close second is paddle boarding or horseback riding.
9. I have over thirty house plants that I’ve kept alive for quite some time. Outdoor plants are an area I need to work on.
10. I love to laugh with and play pranks on people I love.
-
A few lessons in and this girl is my buddy. We’re working on tightening up obedience and bringing out the best in her and her handler as a team. Nice working line Malinois with a sense of humor!
-
Lovely obedience lesson with this gorgeous girl, Ruby the Rottweiler. She picks on things quickly and today had pep in her step!
-
Beginning January 2024, CCT will have be offering “training scholarships” to those in need. I have faith this offering will not be abused and I will help as many dogs/handlers as I can. Dog/handler teams will be selected on a case by case basis.
-
This is for dog owners that truly need training help and do not currently have the funds to pay for training. I am talking situations in which a person is worried about keeping the lights on, how they’ll feed themselves, medical bills, etc. yet genuinely needs help with their dog and will put in the time.
-
Please share this via private message with someone who may be in need. Do not tag them as their training and situation will be private.
-
Handlers will be required to show proof of up to date vaccines/preventatives, sign a waiver, and come to CCT for training.
-
‘Twas a puppy filled afternoon. Out and about socialization with Harry Rex the Boxer puppy (and his name is perfectly amazing) and manners with little Leroy the Dachshund puppy.
-
Puppies are like little sponges, be sure they absorb good things. Take your time, be patient, and be consistent. Very pleased with how Harry Rex gained confidence during our out and about lesson and Leroy responded incredibly well to playtime being combined with training time. What a great Sunday afternoon!
-
Announcement for dog owners and CCT students.
-
There is an unknown K9 respiratory illness going around in other parts of the country. It is not currently in our area but absolutely something to be aware of.
-
CCT asks that you refrain from taking your dog to dog parks, day cares, and grooming facilities at least one week prior to group classes or private lessons.
-
Though your dog may be up to date on vaccinations they can still catch and spread this illness. This K9 respiratory illness can have serious health consequences for your dog.
-
Thank you for being mindful of and respecting this. If your dog show signs of runny nose, cough, lethargy, fever or otherwise not acting like themselves please DO NOT bring them to classes, private lessons, or public places.
-
Let’s have common courtesy and common sense folks. If you knowingly bring a sick dog to class or a private lesson you will be banned from training with CCT, no exceptions.
-
As we celebrate Thanksgiving, consider what you’re grateful for regarding your dog.
-
It could be that sweet face, the way they greet you each morning, or the lessons they’ve taught you. Tell me in the comments! Even in struggle, there is plenty to be grateful for and learn.
-
I’m grateful for my little turkeys and the lessons I’ve learned along the way with them.
🐾 Saxon makes me laugh with how excited he gets when he knows it is his turn to work. He also finds the funniest opportunities to dig to China.
🐾 Heidi has taught me the value in refraining from jumping on bandwagons and following the herd. She is also the best property and vehicle protector, always alerting me to activity. Her zoomies are surpassed by none.
🐾 Xander has taught me that I really need to be black and white in training, “make your yes a yes and your no a no” (some will understand this reference more than others). He is the hardest working dog I’ve had - his tank is bottomless and he is always happy to work. The way he leans into me for pets is lovely.
-
Journeys with our dogs are not meant to be easy, that’d be boring. Our dogs are meant to teach us and make us grow, much like a trusted friend. My gang has certainly forced me to open my mind and grow. Excited to see where the journey takes us.
-
Lovely day at the Blessing of the Pets and Family Pet Fair in San Marco yesterday. thank you for creating a fun and inviting atmosphere for people and their pets!
-
St Philip Neri Animal Ministry is a lovely way to give back to the animals and those in need. One of my favorite charities!
-
Xander was a good boy and did better than I expected as a “booth dog”. Lots of distractions and visitors coming to say “hello” and ask training questions, good socialization for the Xander.
-
Hope to see you there next year! .nakkash you took the best pictures and I’m so glad I got to see you!
-
Whether it be a puppy or grown dog that needs confidence building, CCT can help. Yes, obedience will be a part of training but learning how to help your dog gain confidence is critical (it is more important in my opinion).
-
The progress this little guy from our first lesson was phenomenal. I was thrilled to see him coming out of his shell!
-
See below for a CCT tip on raising a confident puppy versus an obedient puppy.
-
Two students from Sunday, awesome lessons with different goals. Flashy obedience for the Rottweiler and confidence building for the Boxer puppy.
-
Tip: it is far more important that your puppy be confident than know a ton of obedience cues. Obedience can come later and should not be an issue if you’re managing your puppy appropriately. We have a narrow window of time to socialize and build a puppy’s confidence. If you’ve got a puppy that needs confidence please work on building that rather than training all the manners in the world.

Although we did not get our NW3 title today, I am really proud of Saxon. He nailed five out of the six searches. We had two vehicle searches, two exterior searches, an interior search, and a container search.
-
I foiled us when I called alert even though I had a feeling Saxon was playing me during the container search when he gave me a half hearted alert coupled with the biggest dog smile of all time… trickster! Passing five out of six searches is what I’d consider a great day after not trialing for almost two years and our today being our first NW 3.
-
In NW3 trials you don’t know how many hides there are and you’ve got to trust that your dog found them all and you called the alert on each.
-
It was our first NW3 trial and showed up and did his job! I got some great feedback from the judges and got to visit with my K9NW mentor and friend that I’d not seen for quite some time. it was great to see you today and I’m sure we will see you and Pumpkin at a trial soon!
-
I’m looking forward to Saxon earning his NW 3 title. A K9NW trial is always an adventure and a great time overall.
-
A productive and interesting training day.
-
Behavior modification with a mini Aussie, manners with a doodle, and manners for a family dog.
-
All three lessons were a joy to work and handlers had smiles on their faces.
-
The change I saw in the pittie mix from our lesson a week ago was incredible! Little rocket scientist looking he’s to learn.
-
The mini Aussie mix learned that reacting to people is not at all necessary. A harness for her was like pouring kerosene on a fire… it activated her. A change of gear, opportunity to win, and patience changed the game. Her handlers had stopped taking her places but now feel confident and understand how to work with her. This is what training is about - making the lives of the dog(s) AND the humans involved better.
-
The doodle and her handler learned new skills and had fun while learning.

These two darling gargoyles and their humans have been such fun to work with. The joy their humans have when the dogs succeed is infectious! - We’ve got some goals to accomplish and I’m confident we will get there. Small changes make a world of difference, in dog training and in our own lives. I’ve got little changes I’m making with my gang, slow and steady wins the race. - If you’re in Jacksonville and need help with your dog, get in touch! If I’m not the right fit I’ll do my best to refer you to a colleague that can help. - #comprehensivecaninetraining #frenchiesofig #atlanticbeachfl #teachthedog #teachthedogtrainthehuman #dogsofjax #jacksonvillefl #jaxdogs #dogtrainerslife
We had some great tricks at K9 Kindergarten Graduation! We had a doorbell ring, a spinning dog, show me your belly, and a hand shaking, speaking puppy! Daisy the German Shepherd had a super fast “down” that didn’t get on video, she literally dropped herself to the ground! - @tammiejohns love Doc’s trick! - #comprehensivecaninetraining #teachthedog #trainthehuman #teachthedogtrainthehuman #lakecityfl #columbiacountyfl #puppyclass #k9kindergarten
A few clips from Saturday’s K9 Kindergarten Graduation. Wonderful progress over four weeks time. The graduation tricks were my favorite part. - Rex the American Stsffordshire puppy won the eye contact with handler contest - 38 seconds! - #comprehensivecaninetraining #teachthedogtrainthehuman #teachthedog #lakecityfl #columbiacountyfl #k9kindergarten #puppiesofinstagram
The graduation tricks for the Intro to Training class put a giant smile on my face. Each team came up with something their dog enjoys and put it on cue! We had two dancing dogs, a crawling dog, a dog jumping through hoops, and a dog doing a fist bump! - Part of graduation is coming to class and revealing a trick you taught your dog. We also incorporated our polite greeting protocol when the teams came up to get their diplomas, there is a method to my madness and why I teach what I teach. A very big thank you our demo team! - #comprehensivecaninetraining #teachthedog #teachthedpgtrainthehuman #lakecityfl #columbiacountyfl #dogclass #dogtrainerslife #dogtricks #doggraduation
A few clips from April’s Intro to Training graduation class. Yes your dog can! Stay tuned for the new trick videos! Our rescue dog, Andre, won the contest for longest eye contact with handler! - The progress these teams made over four weeks has been incredible! The best progress was with the more reserved dogs learning to trust and enjoy their second handler. All of these teams did their homework each week and blew me away. More classes coming soon! - #comprehensivecaninetraining #teachthedog #teachthedogtrainthehuman #lakecityfl #columbiacountyfl #yesyourdogcan #aussiesofig #rescuedog #dogtrainerslife
I’m going to miss Monday nights with this group. We’ve had a lot of fun and the teams have made good progress. - My favorite part of wrapping up a group class is the unveiling of the graduation tricks! My second favorite part of how teams cheer each other on, makes training so much more fun. - If you’re looking to get into a group class, send me a DM. - #comprehensivecaninetraining #teachthedog #teachthedogtrainthehuman #columbiacountyfl #lakecityfl #bloodhoubdsofig #rottweilersofig #jacksonvillefl #obedienceclass #dogtrainerslife
Yes. Your. Dog. Can. - Relationship, clarity, and fairness are the heart of good training. Laughter and joy are the secret ingredients… not a class goes by that teams aren’t laughing and enjoying the process with their dog. - Fantastic Week 3 Confident Canine Intro to Training with this group. Barriers down for really life distractions and training. I am beyond thrilled with how much each team has improved. - Next week is graduation and there will be a test! - I teach the dogs, I train the humans. Group classes are a great way to test your skills, encourage other teams, and work around distractions. - #comprehensivecaninetraining #teachthedogtrainthehuman #teachthedog #dogtrainerslife #dogtrainer #dogtraining #columbiacountyfl #lakecityfl #trainoutside #distractiontraining
Yes. Your. Dog. Can. - This team has worked to get to this point. The dog had rehearsed undesirable behavior for years, he was really good at it. Now we have a dog that responds to the handler and can walk politely in the world. - It took consistency and clarity to get this team to this point. Reactivity is not always fear based and is critical we realize this. Sometimes it is fun for the dog. CCT offers a balanced approach to training. I’ll take the least invasive approach but at the end of the day if homework isn’t done, timing isn’t on point, the dog does not have clarity, and the handler doesn’t believe in the dog… we will accomplish nothing. - Yes. Your. Dog. Can. Wash, rinse, repeat. Your mindset is the first step in training your dog. Don’t think your dog can do it? He probably won’t, especially with a handler that doesn’t believe in him. - @fusion_fitness_studio I borrowed your phrase! - #comprehensivecaninetraining #teachthedogtrainthehuman #yesyourdogcan #teachthedog ##teachthedogtrainthehuman #spanielsofig #rottweilersofig #jacksonvillefl #dogsofjax
Little clip from a special obedience class with a few of my K9NW super stars. Big test coming up next week! - We missed getting the greatest emergency recall of all time on film during a recent Saturday Night Sniff Club with Opie and @conniekanakanake . It was fire! - Consider your tone when working your tone. How you train is how you should cue it. Keep this in mind when you work, the emotion behind the cue is valuable! - #comprehensivecaninetraining #teachthedogtrainthehuman #dogtrainerslife #bloodhoundsofig #rottweilersofig #lakecityfl #comlumbiacountyfl #dogtraining101
Not a “highlight” reel. A legitimate learning reel with @carlosramirezk9 from the Nature Coast Working Dog seminar back in February. Xander absolutely has jokes and a sense of humor, total goofball. I’m pleased with the progress we’ve made since February. - Sometimes you leave a session on a high note, but sometimes you don’t. This is the reality of working with another species… especially one with a sense of humor and cunning brain. - I’d never seen a dog “fuss” for the decoy. A few things went wrong here: 1. Xander wanted to do his own thing and be close to the decoy. He needed clarity that “fuss” doesn’t mean “fuss” to the person closest to you. I do think he thought he was taking a shortcut to get to bite. He had done perfect “outs” prior to this and exercised great self control. 2. Humbling moment for me on something we need to work on. But I have a sense of humor and can laugh at myself. Clarity is crucial and we need more work. 3. We did NOT end him on a win. This is not how nature works and it is not how we give clarity. Don’t get me wrong, it is important in most instances (80-90%) that the dog walks away winning. BUT there is extreme value in the 10-20% of the time the dog does not get a chance to win after a mistake. Low level stim was used to annoy Xander into the behavior when he wanted to ignore his cue. 4. Being fair with the dog is incredibly important to me. I am fair with my dogs and my expectations, I try my best not to move the goal post. Ending the session without a bite was not unfair whatsoever. Regardless of method used, be fair with the dog. You lay a clear foundation, reinforce it, and hold the dog accountable. 5. An argument could be made for “here fuss” cue being given, and that is a fair argument to a point. At the end of the day “fuss” means “fuss” with the handler and nobody else.. - Dog training is about balance and communication. I am always working on being better for my dogs. We’
Saturday Night Sniff Club. Search one went well, the other two searches were not so easy! - Best progress was the senior dog enjoying himself and not being worried about having an audience. We started him with an area he was familiar with which made all the difference in the world. - @conniekanakanake @sowelu505 thanks for playing the game! - #k9nw #saturdaynightsniffclub #teachthedog #teachthedogtrainthehuman #comprehensivecaninetraining #lakecityfl #columbiacountyfl #schipperke #houndsofig #bloodhound
Fantastic K9 Kindergarten second class with this group. Each team did their homework and proved it! - We had a #GermanShepherd, #AmericanStaffordshireTerrier, #BorderCollie, and a #Doberman. Fun group! I’ve been blown away by how much work ethic the AmStaff puppy has. He’s the littlest hard working puppy I’ve ever seen. Each puppy in class has surpassed my expectations! - #k9kindergarten #comprehensivecaninetraining #teachthedog #teachthedogtrainthehuman #columbiacountyfl #lakecityfl #dogtrainerslife -
Fun out and about lesson with @shepard_jason . We’ve been working on engagement and dog/handler relationship. Very pleased with the progress they’ve made. - Eye contact with the handler is good. Even better is a dog that happily gives eye contact. Make training into a game and your obedience will be more joyful. - Xander was a perfect work partner today, couldn’t be happier with him. - #comprehensivecaninetraining #teachthedog #teachthedogtrainthehuman #traininggames #dogsofjax #jaxfl #jacksonvillefl #dogslovejax #dogtraining101
Great first Saturday Sniff Club. - Thank you @pupsgainesville @annieandalfred and @conniekanakanake for coming out to play! - #trustyourdog #saturdaynightsniffclub #teachthedog #teachthedogtrainthehuman #comprehensivecaninetraining #k9nw #thenoseknows #lakecityfl #columbiacountyfl
A few moments from last nights Confident Canine Intro to Training Group Class 1. - Every team made progress with engagement, recall games, novelty, and being in a new environment. - Training requires time and patience. Training also requires a relationship with the dog, make it a good relationship! Make things into a rewarding game for the dog to play with you. - #comprehensivecaninetraining #lakecityfl #columbiacountyfl #teachthedog #teachthedogtrainthehuman #dogtrainerslife #traininggames
Video clips from a recent lesson. Working on recall from distractions at the fence and neutrality towards other dogs. - This team has put in a tremendous amount of effort and time. It is just as important to train the handler on what to do. Each case is unique and I will experiment to see what works best. - Let the dog make some mistakes, this is where growth and learning occur. It needs to be done properly and fairly but we don’t live in a world where mistakes don’t happen and that is not how organisms learn. We also need to teach and train for resiliency. - Thank you @danny_fus for handling Saxon as the decoy dog. Thank you Saxon for being a great dog! - #comprehensivecaninetraining #teachthedog #teachthedogtrainthehuman #jacksonvillefl #jaxdogs #jaxdogtrainer #dogsofjax #behaviormodification #balanceddogtraining #dogtrainerslife
Great student update! This team tried two approaches to training before contacting me but something was missing and the handler was not happy with the results. The progress they’ve made in four lessons has been impressive! - There is no “one size fits all” approach to dog training. I learned this the hard way myself with Heidi. What does CCT offer? A fair and balanced approach to training the focuses on your relationship and communication with your dog. My background in all positive training lends hand to problem solving while the journey went through with Heidi gives me a different insight into behavior. What I’ve learned in the past two years taking a balanced approach was the missing piece of the puzzle. If a certain method works for you, great! If it’s not working, try something different. Every time I work a dog whether it be a student or my own, I learn something new. - If you’re not going to out in the time, don’t contact me. If you’re a complainer, don’t contact me. If you won’t meet your dog’s needs OUTSIDE of training, don’t contact me. I’m in this to make your relationship better with your dog and ensure your dog’s needs are met. Failure to meet basic needs is a training failure, in my opinion. - If you need help with your dog and will put in the time, consider CCT. I do not take every case that comes my way, for a variety of reasons, but I consider all. - #comprehensivecaninetraining #teachthedog #teachthedogtrainthehuman #balanceddogtraining #dogtraining101 #jacksonvillefl #dogsofjax #lakecityfl #dogtraining101
What does your dog find fulfilling? - Every dog needs an outlet or activity in which they find fulfillment. What do I do with my dogs for fun? Obedience, K9 Nose Work, bite work, play, walk in the woods, cuddle and other activities. Saxon loves K9 Nose Work and tricks. Heidi loves K9 Nose Work, diving off a dock to “save” me, bite work with a suit (she does not like the IPO sleeve and I’ve accepted this), protecting the vehicle, patrolling and guarding the property. Xander seems to love everything I’ve thrown at him except jumping from a dock into a pool. - Funny where life takes you. A few years ago I wouldn’t have believed I’d be doing bite work and there was a time I thought it wasn’t “nice” and thought dogs didn’t enjoy it. - Now I have a better understanding that each dog is different and some enjoy pressure/confrontation/fighting/whatever you want to call it, to various degrees. Find the outlet that your dog enjoys and build on it. - @rottweilers_vom_hause_franeta Heidi Bear is coming into her own, she is still a total sweetheart with little kids. - #dogtrainerslife #comprehensivecaninetraining #justanothersaturday #malinoislife #rottweilerlife #dogsport #workingdogs #bitework
Updates like this are what makes this line of work worthwhile. - There is an order of operations and a reason we teach/train certain things. There is a reason we may opt for certain tools and protocols. If you don’t put in the work, you won’t be successful in anything you do. Period. - No matter the method, your trainer wants you AND your dog to be successful. When we teach behaviors and give homework it is for a reason. We want you to confidently take your dog for a walk, maybe go for coffee, or walk through a pet store. - We see potential in your dog that is untapped. We see past the unwanted behaviors to what is possible. Every dog is unique, there is no one size fits all. - @laurenkahre thank you for referring this awesome team! Pure kismet that your paths crossed. - #comprhensivecaninetraining #teachthedog #teachthedogtrainthehuman #balanceddogtrainer #behaviormodification #dogtraiberslife #jaxfl #jaxdogtrainer
Want your business to be the top-listed Pet Store/pet Service?
When I was in college some years ago, people began asking me to look after their pets and walk their dogs. This bloomed into a business and was Wagging Tails and Pattering Paws for some years. Along the way, I began to reevaluate the use of equipment and techniques used in training and the everyday care of dogs. I realized that force was not necessary and is not something I wanted to do. My time quickly became devoted to trying new approaches to training, reading everything I could, and doing some soul searching about how I could help not only the dogs in my care but the humans as well.
By a stroke of luck on this thought journey, I found the Pet Professional Guild and attended the 2016 Summit in Tampa. This experience further opened my mind and heart to the concept of force-free training. I wanted to improve my skills and enhance my knowledge of canine behavior and training, so I enrolled in Animal Behavior College’s Dog Obedience Instructor Program - one of the best decisions of my life thus far that was prompted by a husband and wife training team, without whose encouragement CCT might not be here today. I not only learned how to improve my skills through the ABC program, but I also found an excellent mentor in Stacy Strickland of Jacksonville Pawstive Training, Inc.
I chose Stacy as a mentor because she is also a member of the Pet Professional Guild, which is the organization mentioned above that promotes the use of science-based training that does not rely on force, fear or pain. Upon graduating from the ABC program, Comprehensive Canine Training, LLC was born!
At its core, Comprehensive Canine Training’s mission is to provide people with results through education and force-free dog training. Training should be about creating a line of communication with your dog in a way that is fair and just. The use of alpha rolls, collars that inflict pain or restrict the flow of oxygen or anything that will cause physical or psychological harm to get a dog to comply is not something that I will do - research now backs the use of positive reinforcement and methods that are force-free.
It has been a journey getting to this realization, but I am so grateful for all that has led me to where I am today with Comprehensive Canine Training. As a convert to this type of training, I understand why people have bought into the idea that they need these tools and techniques to train but I have seen first-hand the results of a force-free approach. I am hopeful for the era of modern dog training that we are in and look forward to seeing a change of the guard in terms of the approach we take to training our beloved dogs.
