Kara was set to be euthanized at a Quebec shelter on March 8th. We saw her profile & made contact late March 7th & were fortunate enough to save her life. She arrived with Freedom Drivers on her Freedom ride on March 12th & we've been looking for her furever family ever since!
Kara is friendly, playful, loving, sweet, just AMAZING! She has some allergies from time to time but we've been able to manage them quite well with diet!

🚨 SCARLETT UPDATE!
We don't like to indicate too much too soon with medical cases as the pendulum can swing any way at any time & cause alarm unnecessarily. I happen to be an incredibly emotional soul who is always doing the best for them, but sometimes our best falls short.
Yesterday's diagnosis & symptoms ran the gamut from mastitis, definitely an infection, high fever, lack of coordination, lethargy, nausea, loss of appetite, dilated pupils, salivation, none of which we could sort the cause. It was recommended that we FELV/ FIV test which could have had serious & negative long term represcussions as we've seen in the past when we lost Mowgli to the same. AMAZING NEWS - SCARLET IS NEGATIVE FOR FELV/ FIV! And we could not have received better news!
What do we think it partially was... A reaction to a standard course of dewormer! Every cat or kitten, especially from outdoors, will need 2 to 4 rounds of dewormer depending on exposure, risk, signs, etc. Scarlett, along with 12 others were dewormed at the same time, even her babies & all had no reaction. I've administered over 500 courses of dewormer & have never had a reaction - But there's a first time for everything.
So we have 2 things: An allergy to Milbemax, RARE! And some sort of infection. The Milbemax reaction will take about 48 hours to pass & by 10:15PM last night, Scarlett ate for the first time that day, was more coordinated, less lethargic and PURRED! 😭 My mama heart was ELATED to say the least.
Scarlett will be on twice a day antibiotics for the next 7 days & we're banking on her returning to her normal energy, affection & adventurous ways!
See pictures of her distended abdomen on one side that added to our alarm! One of the components that will likely be rectified through the antibiotics as it could be related to mastitis. Based on her x-rays, it appears this is what it could be as there were no other visible masses in her abdominal area, and all organs were of normal, shape, size
🚨 HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A CUTER GRINCH FACE? Gosh I love this gal! Can you make some room in your home & heart for this sweet love? I genuinely cannot fathom that such a loving, quirky & cool soul has not been adopted and worse was almost euthanized at a shelter on March 8th! We feel THE LUCKIEST to have saved her & know her furever family is out there waiting for her to fill their days with joy!
Kara is the epitome of an entertaining sweetheart. She plays fetch, gets zoomies, will steal your food (don't let her 🤣). You will never have a bad day with Kara as your side kick.
Kara is 7 years young, spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed & revolution treated. She loves other cat friends with slow & proper introductions, she loves to groom her cat pals & then wrestle with them! She does require a specific kibble & is allergic to poultry & fish. So if you have a pal with similar allergies, perhaps Kara would be their perfect bestie!

🚨 THE QUAD SQUAD IS WELL... PERFECTION!
Bunny, Chickadee & Peep were recently joined by what we believe is another sibling. While considerably smaller, not every outdoor kitten thrives & perhaps that was Squeaks situation. Super tiny & super squeaky, protesting all of life's difficulties, like sharing a bathroom with 3 rambunctious siblings nearly twice the size!
These 4 are beyond affectionate. The moment you enter their enclosure, they're at your feet, their motors are revving & its a symphony of purring - Even Squeak has joined in!
They're curious, adventurous, climbers & there is absolutely nothing left of my shower curtain, they get into everything, love taking naps in the bathtub with every item that's been knocked off the ledges.
KITTENS ARE RAMBUNCTIOUS & MISCHIEVOUS - The equivalent of a 2 year old in your Grandma's tea pot collection but eventually, they're lap cats & window cats & treat cats & sloth cats. Some will maintain their wild ways & some will be cool as a cucumber! You'll never know who will be who! 🤭

🚨 OUR 3 MUSKETEERS HAVE BLOSSOMED! Bunny, Chickadee & Peep made quick work of learning that humans can be trusted sources of love, affection & snackies! While they wanted nothing to do with us on intake, they've become fast fans & relish when anyone needs to use the loo since these are their temporary living quarters!
The 3 Musketeers will soon be moving into the kitten nursery since we've recently had an exciting adoption. More to come on that exciting news! We are still actively working to trap the remaining mom + kitten & recently found out on sight that we're not short 1 kitten but 2... This mama had a litter of 5, not 4 as we originally thought. They weren't all coming together so we thought she had 2 grey kittens & 2 black kittens turns out she has 3 black kittens!
THANK YOU for following along, for supporting all of these little loves in care, for cheering us on, offering donations to assist with surgeries & supplies or Royal Canin Mother & Babycat food. You've all come through in such an incredible way that what is often a major deficit & financial burden, for the first time in 8 months, has been alleviated. 🚨 LILLY (FORMERLY LINDA) SAW THE VET TODAY & SHE'S IN FANTASTIC SHAPE!
Lilly is approximately 10 years old & isn't spayed! Can you believe that? The number of kittens she'd have birthed, had taken from her, no doubt to sell & was picked up as a stray in Quebec?... A STRAY! We know this girl is no stray!
I can assure you, Lilly was loved at some point in her life. How she came to land on the euthanasia list at a Quebec shelter will always devastate us. We can see she wasn't cared for as she has notches missing from her ears, her teeth are in dire straights & again UNSPAYED!
Well Lilly has been living the good life here at the Bridge, giving ME ALL OF THE LOVING & ALL OF THE ENCOURAGEMENT & I certainly feel the luckiest to be her earth angel!
Lilly will need a dental, the good news, it's considerably less than expected, but we still need to get it done because more good news... Lilly has a very interested adopter waiting for her to recover from her surgeries & move along to her furever family.

We're always sent the most helpful & animal loving individuals that don't just call to say come save them but that pick up the traps (we provide them), set them, monitor them & do their best to help trap them! These 2 little loves were trapped by the finder East or Dixie, along Dundas. We found an entire clan of unfixed cats that no one had seen previously but that all of a sudden appeared... We can't say if it was a dump or not & we won't waste our time wondering.
We're just full of gratitude & joy that so many wonderful humans step up to help us, help them!

🚨RANGER just wanted everyone to know that she is a HE! 🤣 And he really detests being separated from his human & animal friends... So he broke out of his bathroom enclosure today & took himself for a walk through the house... I found him because the dog was in the yoga pose, downward dog with her tail wagging in the air, nose under the couch... And there was Ranger doing the poofy kitten dance... The don't mess with me, I'm big & bad at 3 lbs! There is never a dull moment in rescue! Its a good day for a kitten squeak! ❤️🐾

Linda woke up today & decided she'd like to have a crack at trust. She leaned into the pets, she leaned into the love, turned on her purr motor & kneaded those blankets like she was master biscuit maker. I'm always surprised when they come around because we can't plan for it. I was recording to send to someone inquiring about Linda & was so lucky to capture this precious moment. Whenever I have the gift of these moments, I'm again shocked that she'd have lost her life just 7 days before. And instead, she's going to find the most loving & safe space to live out her golden years.
I was hit with gratitude this morning. Because we get to save them because we have you cheering us on & supporting us through whatever comes. I couldn't be more grateful & I can't extend enough thanks for your amazing kindess & support!

One of my favourite experiences with our scaredy cats is watching them unhindered. When they're alone in their safe space, when no human is trying to help them move forward or socialize them into trust, seeing them in their truest form is a gift. Seeing them stretch, run, wrestle, play, jump, roll, cuddle, groom, my heart remains hopeful that one day, they'll know its safe to do that with us too.
Owl + Tucky are worthy. Worthy of the same love we give to the lap cat, worthy of the same love we give to the cuddle bug, worthy of the same love for no other reason than being here, being alive & being wholly worthy of feeling safe & accepted.
Who has the heart to love our scaredy cats? Tucky & Owl are ready for adoption but come as a packaged deal, they enjoy playing together, grooming one another, wrestling & Owl really relies on Tucky.
