David Graham
For the past nine years, Fern Flett and her husband David have been breeding bichon frises at their home near Langton, Ont. The breed can weigh between eight and 18 pounds, says Flett, who's clearly partial. “They are entertainers. They love to please. And they are easy to train,” she says. “We bring them up like little children.” She says men come in frequently, insisting the puppies are for their wives. “They make it clear it's not for them. They say, ‘small dogs are not for me.' ” “My husband and I just chuckle to ourselves,” says Flett. They know that within days the dog will be his. “It's so interesting to see the transformation,” she says, as the little bichon puppy wins the burly man's heart. “I think men are softies,” says Flett. “The dog helps them get in touch with their feminine side.” t.thestar.com/#/article/life/2010/08/26/when_men_choose_a_best_friend_size_really_doesnt_matter.html
Description of a Bichon Frise
Bichon Coat Medium length, silky texture with corkscrew curls The Bichon Frise descended from the Barbet or Water Spaniel and the Standard Poodle. The Bichons were divided into four categories: the Bichon Maltese, the Bichon Bolognaise, the Bichon Havanese and the Bichon Tenerife (this breed). All originated in the Mediterranean area The Bichon Frise is a small dog that weighs approximately 5–10 kg (10–20 lbs) and stands 23–30 cm (9–12 in) at the withers, but slightly larger dogs are not uncommon. It is best to have a Bichon Frise groomed approximately every four to eight weeks. Daily brushing of the coat helps to prevent matting. If a Bichon's coat gets severely matted, they may develop a hematoma,[19] most likely in the ears. Read more at https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bichon_Frise
