Pens are not bunny safe, no matter how big the bunny is. The pen MUST be wrapped in wire mesh (or plexiglass) to prevent such accidents. Walter was stuck before and screamed.

GRAPHIC...in my opinion

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not assume that xpens are 100 percent safe for an adult rabbit!

We have 6 bunnies in double xpens and everyday they get 4 hours run time in the 4 xpen large play area, with 1 staying in the play area overnight. None of our Bunnies are bonded (we thought perhaps Peter G and Kringle might bond after Cookies passing, but Peter G was a hard NO).

Keep in mind Becca is a very aggressive bunny and she has lived here for 4 years. She is the one that would move her xpen 2 feet to try to attack Peter G. (Hence the cement blocks)

Yesterday, Ayla went to go into the play area and decided to go the opposite way. She hopped past Tala and Ellie Mae with no issues, while I was trying to turn her back. As she was hopping towards Becca, Becca started running furiously in her pen and was screaming (I have never heard a domestic bunny scream) and it was terrifying! Then with all her might Becca through herself into the side of the pen and was stuck. Ayla by that time had gone back to her space. I tried helping her out with no success. I could not move those bars at all. I called Rodney to come home from with deadbolt cutters and I rang the fire department. (Which didn't show). Rodney and the police arrived (at least they showed, and the officer was the same one who helpes us catch Kringle so she was happy to see her) at the same time and were able to cut her loose. I rushed her to her vet, who took her in straight away. Nothing broken, but quite a bit of swelling so pain meds, laser treatments and quiet time is on the agenda. We have no idea what scared her so badly but are extremely grateful that she survived the ordeal. All we know about her past is that she was left in a duffel bag near an airport to die.

We have modified the xpen with plexiglass so that this will never occur again.

Looks like he wasn’t rolling as much since I padded it more to make the center a bit smaller for him. He also ate all the greens during the night (parsley and dill) 🙏💕

Sweet beans and walter— both who lost bonded friends, became friends in their own way. But for beans safety i’m not going to actually bond them. Mickey use to hide from walter as he can be a big bully. I’m happy how their interaction is now. and that’s all that matters 🫶
