Peel Animal Rescue Society Peel Animal Rescue Society was founded in September 2019. We are a 100% VOLUNTEER-RUN nonprofit group We have a NO KILL policy.

We do not receive support from the SPCA/City/Government. We do not have a facility or a shelter and operate through a network of foster homes and volunteers. We strive to save as many unwanted animals as possible regardless of background, age, health and/or behavioural issues. Our goal is to find each of our rescued animals a FOREVER HOME where they are treated as a family member. Despite limitati

ons in our resources, we are able to achieve our rescue mission by excellent coordination work with various organizations and the general public.

EIGHT CATS/KITTENS FOUND HOMES
THIS WEEKEND!!

Although the weather this weekend was a mix of sun and rain, the number of adoptions really made the days much brighter!

A total of 2 adults and 6 kittens were adopted from our partner stores. The best part is that among these 8 kitties, 2 pairs were adopted together. We could not be happier. The more adoptions, the more we can rescue. We wish AQUA & YELLOW, CHANEL & REGGIE, LEIA, LILAC, LIME & TESSA great lives in their new homes.

Thank you to Pet Valu Clarkson, Pet Valu [email protected] and also Donna, our foster mom who fostered Reggie, one of the adopted kitties.

TODAY'S RESCUE
TWO NEWBORNS!

We were asked to take in two newborn kittens that were found in Brampton, close to the road. The "finders" waited for a few hours for their mom to return, but she did not come back. As it started to rain, they realized the poor mom cat was probably trying to move her kittens to a safer spot but might have been spooked.

The kittens are now safe with Donna, our devoted Kitten Foster Mom, who is caring for them in an incubator. We hope they will take to the bottle and do well. Good luck, little ones!

Thank you to the kind finders for ensuring these kittens had a chance at survival. Thank you to Donna for providing them with the immediate and 24/7 care they need. We will keep everyone updated on their progress.

BUCKWHEAT NEEDS A FOSTER HOME
1 year old, 45 lbs

PARS was asked to rescue BUCKWHEAT who was picked up as a stray. Sadly, he and a few other dogs at the shelter are "at risk" due to lack of space, as the shelter is undergoing kennel renovations.

We have been asked to rescue BUCKWHEAT and a couple of other dogs.

BUCKWHEAT is estimated to be 1 yr old, a mixed breed, about 45 lbs. He has a sweet and friendly disposition, always smiling. Good with other dogs, probably would be fine with cats.

In order to rescue him, we need a foster home. Please open up your heart and home to this homeless soul. Please email PARS:

NEWEST RESCUE
ANOTHER FAMILY of 7

This past weekend, we rescued another feline family of a mom and her 6 kittens. The house owner's pet dog played a crucial role in their discovery! The dog kept going to and sniffing the same bushes, which led its homeowner to find the bunch of kitties.

In these situations, we always try to act quickly to prevent the family from moving. Thanks to Ruth, our dedicated trapper, who went to the location right away. When she arrived, the Momma Cat was so hungry that she came and jumped into the car for the food being prepared for the trap! However, she got scared off and refused to go into the trap even with her kittens behind it. A "Drop Trap" was needed.

It was a hot day, and Ruth waited patiently at the outdoor location, enduring mosquito attacks. After three hours, Mom finally went into the Drop Trap and was reunited with her babies. Mom looks very young but is taking good care of her tiny kittens. She possibly resembles a purebred cat.

Unfortunately, the domestic animal crisis never ends. One of the major causes is due to irresponsible owners failing to neuter/spay their pets yet allowing them to roam outdoors, resulting in the reproduction of numerous litters. Some of the homeless cats were purposely abandoned for various reasons.

Stay tuned for updates on when Mama and her kittens will be ready for their forever homes.

HAPPY TAIL TALE
10-YEAR-OLD SHELTER DOG LOUIE

The future of an older dog or cat in a shelter is often grim or even considered "dangerous." Sadly, older pets are less likely to be adopted.

LOUIE was around 10 years old when he ended up in a shelter due to his owner's dementia. Although small and cute, his age made him less likely to be adopted in an overrun shelter. His future was unpredictable. PARS rescued him in April 2023 and placed him in a foster home. We believed he could find an adoptive home and still had many more years to live, as small breed dogs usually have longer life spans. Thankfully, Louie was adopted shortly after.

It has now been over a year, and the recent update on Louie is heartwarming:

"We adopted Louie in April 2023. What a blessing he is to me and my family. Louie is the sweetest little boy. He is a calm and chill dog who absolutely loves everyone he meets. He has lots of cat and dog cousins and loves going over for visits and sleepovers. He is a real snuggle bug and loves to cuddle with anyone who will sit with him and rub his belly. Louie has brought our family so much joy, and we want to thank PARS for bringing Louie into our lives and for all you do for these beautiful animals." — Anna & Family, June 2024.

Thank you, Anna and family, for giving Louie a loving home and showing that older pets can bring immense joy and love into our lives.

Thank you, Bonnie, for fostering him (and Lenny his housemate)

THE STORY OF BLISS
Male, DSH Brown Tabby
3-Year-old

Bliss has quite a story. Originally adopted from PARS over two years ago as a 4-month-old kitten, he was recently found as a stray, hanging out with another cat and being fed outside. Fortunately, he was microchipped, and the chip number was tracked down to PARS.

We contacted his adopter and were disappointed to learn that they had given Bliss away due to moving, despite our Adoption Agreement stipulating that pets must be returned to PARS if they can no longer be cared for.

Bliss is a very sweet and friendly boy. Though he was quite scared when we first took him back, he has since come out of his shell. He enjoys being petted and gets along well with other cats. Bliss is now looking for his forever home where he won't be abandoned again.

Please come and visit him at our Cat Enclosure located at:

ATARI aka ROLO
LIVING UP TO THE PROFILE!

ATARI was posted twice on Facebook for a foster home/adoptive home. In his profile, he was described (by the foster mom) as "The best little family pet." Needless to say, he was adopted quickly.

Atari did not let us down and is living up to this profile. His new adoptive mommy described him as the "Perfect addition to our family."

Here's an update from his new family:

"Atari, now named Rolo, is doing great and has already started to recognize his new name. He has done really well, although he's a bit scared of our old, vocal cat. They are adjusting to each other.

He spent the weekend outside with us in the backyard, chilling. We had a backyard fire, and he just hopped up on a chair and curled up. He had a couple of accidents inside, but we're paying closer attention to him now and have identified his 'p**p spot' in the backyard, so hopefully, we'll move past the accidents shortly. These things happen.

Rolo spent last night in the crate for the first time and did great! No accidents, and he wasn't stressed. He's in the crate right now with his peanut butter-filled Kong, just chilling." HELEN June 2024

Thank you, Helen and your family, for welcoming ATARI (aka ROLO) into your home. He does sound like the "perfect addition"!

Thank you, Jennifer and her family for fostering him.

TOMMY aka OLLIE
THE SECOND TIME IS THE CHARM

It's always sad when a dog or cat has to be surrendered by their family, for whatever reasons. Tommy was one of them. He's such a handsome and friendly cat that he was adopted almost right away. Unfortunately, probably due to stress, he fell really sick a couple of days after adoption and was returned to us. Thanks to Marlene his foster mom who nursed him back. She actually had to force feed Tommy.

Tommy was adopted again. He is now living happily in a "Mini Zoo" - 2 cats and 1 dog!

"TOMMY has taken on the new name of OLLIE and he’s amazing! We absolutely adore him.

He’s a goofy lovable boy who comes running over when you call him. He’s very sweet and loves up everyone. He purrs and plays and seems very content. He’s also very big (tall/long) considering he’s not yet a year old!

Ollie has a much older, majestic tuxedo brother Dash (11) who he’s slowly winning over. He and his older sister Zoya (2) were friends from the start though - wrestling and play fighting and grooming each other. Zoya likes to try to remind him she’s in charge - but Ollie ignores her. It’s hilarious to watch them! And finally, he is still trying to figure out how to play with his sweet Golden Retriever sister Lola (8) who doesn’t quite know what to think of him and his antics. " NICOLE June 2024.

Thank you, Nicole and her family, for adopting OLLIE!

RESCUE OF A FAMILY of SIX

We were contacted about a family of tabby cats—a mom and her five kittens—in a Meadowvale, Mississauga neighborhood. They had been moving from one yard to another, and when they took up residence under a second deck, the kittens were already growing quite big.

We successfully trapped the mom in one trap and all the kittens together in another. They were reunited shortly after, and it turns out that the mom is quite friendly, suggesting she might be an abandoned, unfixed cat. The kittens are a bit scared but should get comfortable quickly. The mom will be getting spayed shortly, and the kittens will be vaccinated.

Please continue to follow us for updates on when they will be ready for their forever homes.

Thanks to Raji and Ivor for reporting this family and helping to coordinate their rescue.

ALUMNI OF PARS
PIGLET aka SADIE

We are always happy to receive updates from our adopters and even happier when we receive updates a few years after adoption. This is the best reward for our voluntary rescue work.

Piglet was about 1 year old when she was adopted. She will be 7 years old in a month! She is still living happily in the same family, with her beloved Mommy and 3 kitty siblings. We hope all our adopted pets can stay in their adoptive homes for the rest of their lives.

"It will be 6 years on July 16!! SADIE is going to be 7 years old in August 😭 The time has flown by. We love her so much, she’s the best addition to our family. We couldn’t imagine life without her. A few update photos of our “Sadie” baby ☺️ !

She has such a sweet and funny personality, I could've sent 100 pictures - but I tried to limit myself to a reasonable number LOL She’s a very happy, smiley girl. Loves her family, loves her cats, loves her toys. She particularly loves her brother, our ginger 🥰 We often find them cuddled up together in bed." ALEX - June 2024.

Recently Alex also donated a new Cat Tree to PARS.

Thank you, ALEX, for loving SADIE for so many years, and the Cat Tree!

ANGELICA & JAFAR
IN SHELTER FOR 3 YEARS
POTCAKES, 35 lbs

Angelica (Black/Tan) and Jafar have been in a shelter in Barbados for almost three years. Although well taken care of, it has been far too long for them. Both were small puppies when they were picked up; Angelica arrived in July 2021, and Jafar in October 2021. They are Potcakes, both around 3 years, and weighing just 35 lbs.

Initially, ANGELICA was very nervous and fearful of people. She became more confident over time but was still quite withdrawn and not ready for adoption.

A significant turning point came when the shelter paired her with Jafar. Jafar is a happy and social dog who has given Angelica the confidence she needed. Since they were partnered, Angelica has come out of her shell, becoming immediately happier. They have become best friends, living, sleeping, eating, and walking together. Jafar is like Angelica’s savior, teaching her how to have fun and enjoy life. They have even participated as “Ambassadors” in the Shelters fundraisers. Angelica adores Jafar. They are in love with each other!

Both dogs get along with Dogs and Cats, and Kids. They walk well on leash. They also travel well in the car.

Due to their strong bond and Angelica’s reliance on Jafar, the shelter decided they be adopted together. Unfortunately, the adoptive homes available in Barbados are very limited compared to Canada, so they are still waiting for their forever home.

Recently, the shelter has pulled them out and tried them in a volunteer's home. They have been doing really well, and the adjustment has been quite smooth.

PARS was asked to help take in these two precious souls, so they have a Chance of a HOME of their own in Canada. The Shelter (Ocean Acres) was offered 2 Free flight spaces for Dogs, and the plan is for Angelica and Jafar to fly to Canada on Tuesday, June 11.

We are appealing for a Foster Home for Angelica and Jafar. They are not hard to care of and need a calm home with a yard. They should not be left alone for too long. Although they are fine with kids, its best there are no very small children.

If you can help Foster Angelica and Jafar, please email PARS ASAP.

VICKI & VALERIE
HOME TOGETHER AGAIN!

VICKI & VALERIE were surrendered by their owner who had too many cats in the apartment (none of the cats were fixed!). They both had previously given birth. We are not sure of their exact relationship; they could be sisters or mother and daughter. For their well-being, we aimed to adopt them out together. We did it! It took a longer time, and we also charged a reduced fee for the pair, but it was worth it when we received this update from their Adoptive mom:

"Vicki and Valerie are doing great. It was a bit of an adjustment at first—they both hid for several days. They initially came out at night when it was quiet. Vicki was the first to come out and hang out with my boyfriend and me, and she has adjusted to our Frenchton (Walter the dog) quite well. Valerie has been a little slower, but she is getting there more and more..."

They are a pleasure to have, and we love them very much.
Thank you for checking on us. 🙂- LYN June 2024

Thank you, Lyn. Thank you also to Pet Valu Port Credit our partner where they stayed there for adoption.

SIGNS OF A “FOSTER FAILURE”!

When you receive comments like these from the foster parent:

“Georgio has been settling in nicely.”

“He has a great appetite and is just so sweet when taking treats.”

“Did really good on our first walk of the day.”

“He is definitely a cuddler. Such a sweet and lovely boy.”

“This morning, they (dog and toddler) were just inseparable. He
was a little nervous but gentle with the boy, giving little kisses.”

“Playing with the neighbor's dog. No aggression at all. Instant
buddies.”

You know it will be a Foster Failure!

And it is! Shannon and Raymond, the Foster Parents of Georgio, are now his Adoptive Parents!

THANK YOU, Shannon and Raymond, for giving a furever home to GEORGIO.

Meet SAGE aka COSMO (36 lbs)
CATTLEDOG-Collie X
MALE, 3 years

SAGE akas COSMO is a happy and trusting dog with the sweetest personality, and on the smaller side weighing just 36 lbs.. He is cuddly and loves to get comfy on the bed or couch. He loves to play, and his fav toys are the stuffed toys. He also loves to be with his humans. He is very smart and very trainable.

He is housetrained. He is calm and well behaved at home. He’s very good free roaming at any time of day and can be left alone for several hours without being crated. He would sit by the window and “guard” the home! He walks well on leash. He might be reactive to dogs on the street. However, the reactivity can be redirected as he is highly treat motivated!

An experienced owner who can provide some training to Cosmo is preferred. He would do well in a home without other pets or very small kids.

KELVIN
NEWEST & 10TH RESCUE DOG IN MAY!

Kelvin is the 10th dog PARS rescued in May, breaking our record for dog rescues in a single month! Each rescue involves a lot of time and effort, but knowing these homeless souls will have a home makes it all worth it. We would also like to thank our foster parents; without them, we would not be able to help these dogs.
Special thanks to Susan, Kelvin's foster, who picked him up from the Airport late last night and took him home.

It might be hard to believe that a small and young dog like Kelvin couldn't find a home in his own country. Unfortunately, this is the reality. The passion for animals varies greatly between countries. Here in Canada, animal welfare is taken seriously, and many animal lovers are willing to adopt cats and dogs from shelters.

Kelvin arrived last night and went directly to a foster home. Besides the loving care of Susan, his foster mom, he has the company of another dog and three cats (one of which is also a foster from PARS!).

Kelvin is just under 1 year old and weighs under 20 lbs. He is good with dogs, cats, and kids. Likes to give kisses. He will make a great family pet in most homes. After a decompression period of 1 to 2 weeks, he will be posted for adoption. Please stay tuned!

"SHORT-LEGGED" HUNTER ADOPTED!

Last week, we posted a request for a foster home for Hunter. Today, he has been adopted!

Needless to say, it's a foster failure! Hunter is such a sweet and friendly boy that his foster family fell in love with him in just a few days.

"Thank you to everyone at PARS. Being a foster has been wonderful and we are grateful to be able to adopt HUNTER as he is such a lovely, sweet boy. He has fit in with our family wonderfully and we enjoy being able to love him as much as possible. We appreciate everything you all do for these pups." CHRISTINA, May 30, 2024

SWEET BEE, 36 lbs
POTCAKE, FEMALE, 1.5 YRS
"CAN YOU FOSTER ME?"

SWEET BEE was one of the five dogs that PARS took in last week from a packed shelter in Barbados. This sweet girl went to a foster home, and within just a few days, her foster daddy was already thinking about adopting her. Unfortunately, over the weekend, her foster daddy had to fly out of the country for a family emergency (his grandmother is critically ill), and Sweet Bee is now in temporary boarding.

We are urgently seeking a foster home for Sweet Bee. She is about 1.5 years old and looks like a small Labrador mix, weighing just 36 lbs. She is sweet, friendly, and social; always smiling. She is housetrained.

Being an active and playful girl, Sweet Bee would love a fenced yard, although it's not a must. She loves playing with other dogs and can go to a home with one or two dogs. She seems to be non-reactive to cats. Sweet Bee is very adaptable, fitting in almost immediately in both her foster home and her current boarding home.

If you can foster Sweet Bee, please email PARS ASAP at:

MEET FRANKIE (MARBLE)
SAMOYED/HUSKY/GREYHOUND
FEMALE, 3-YR-OLD 45 lbs.

FRANKIE is a Super affectionate girl. She loves her people and is Amazing with children of all sizes. She is living with 2 boys in her current home. Sadly, due to a time-consuming medical diagnosis with a family member, Frankie needs to be rehomed.

Frankie is fully housetrained. She is gentle and loves having her teeth brushed but prefers a paw-dicure at the vet! She loves a bone to chew and a few extra to hide (in the garden and sometimes under a pillow), she never forgets where she has put them. Over the last few months she has honed her loose leash walking, sits, and down. She is independent and will snuggle up (especially with kiddos) but also prefers to sleep solo on the living room floor.

She has been working with a trainer to build her social skills based on her past shelter experience and she is now walking weekly with two dog friends. .A family where she is the only dog, a yard to run, and a lot of love would be ideal for Frankie.

MISS DIXIE'S FOUNDATION

A BIG THANK YOU to Dixie's Foundation for their recent donation of Cat Food, both dry and canned food.

Thank you also to our dedicated volunteers for picking up the Donations and storing them in their homes (garage and/or basement).

PARS has taken in lots of homeless cats/kittens, and we are always in need of Cat Food, especially those for KITTENS, both dry and wet. The easiest way to donate is via our AMAZONS WISH LIST

HUNTER, JALAPENO, SAM, SWEET BEE & WOODY
NEW ARRIVALS AT PARS!

Following our earlier post, HUNTER and four other dogs arrived at PARS yesterday. We were expecting six, but unfortunately, Red fell sick and was not fit for transport. They were rescued from a high kill shelter; a couple was even on the Death Row. They are now all in loving Foster Homes!

It was a bright and sunny day, and we hope the future for these homeless dogs will be just as bright and sunny now that they are in the care of PARS.

The new Doggies range from 13 lbs to 50 lbs, but all are friendly and loving dogs. They will be available for adoption in a couple of weeks, and it wouldn't be surprising if there were a couple of "Foster Failures"!

A huge THANK YOU to their foster parents:
Christina, Crystal, Colleen, Jash and Paola

We also want to extend our gratitude to our dedicated volunteers:
Alexia, Erik, Grace & Natasha.

Stay tuned for updates on these adorable pups.

Our Story

PEEL ANIMAL RESCUE SOCIETY is a NON PROFIT and NO KILL group dedicated to the rescue of HOMELESS COMPANION ANIMALS. We are 100% VOLUNTEER-RUN and receive no support from the SPCA/City/Government. We do not have a facility or a shelter and operate through a network of foster homes and volunteers. We strive to save as many unwanted animals as possible regardless of background, age, health and/or behavioural issues. Our goal is to find each of our rescued animals a FOREVER HOME where they are treated as a family member. Despite limitations in our resources, we are able to achieve our rescue mission by excellent co-ordination work with various organisations and the general public.
