The Starlight Sanctuary The Starlight Sanctuary is a Nevada registered 501c3 non-profit animal rescue organization. IRS EIN #45-3189625

The Starlight Sanctuary is a 501c3 tax exempt organization (IRS EIN # 45-3189625) , that operates as a rescue, sanctuary, hospice. Rick and Laura Bell had been privately (using their own money they work to earn) rescuing and providing sanctuary to animals since they met in 1992, and rescued as individuals for many years before they ever met. The primary reason for attaining their 501c3 tax exempt

designation in 2011 was for the purpose of writing grant proposals with the help of a long time friend whom is a professional grant proposal writer. They are "self-funded", and operate entirely from money they earn working

However, even though primarily self-sufficient in terms of basic maintenance and care of their animals, monetary donations and/or donations of feed, fencing, vehicles they can scrap for their metal value, or sell if they run and also have a legal Title, direct calls to their hay suppliers to donate hay, etc are much appreciated. They could then devote/defer their own personal money toward improvements to their new property they are purchasing, using their own money, that would benefit the animals in their care. They are also not an adoption-based rescue and primarily take in the animals with no where else to go (other rescues won't even take in the animal) who often have physical and/or behavioral/training issues that cause them to be unadoptable with, or without a fee. The Starlight Sanctuary-Hospice can be contacted on Facebook at The Starlight Sanctuary for further information, questions, donating, etc.

Cracked Window Myth

K-9 Rico is sad when he hears our Community Service Officers or Patrol Officers responding to a call with a dog in a hot parked vehicle. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, cracking the window isn't enough to keep the temperature of your car at a safe level. If your dog is distressed and at risk of severe injury or death, that cracked window will be shattered if that's what we need to do to save your pet's life.

It's going to be in the 90s this week. Don't leave your pet in your vehicle, window cracked or not. Leaving your buddy at home is safer, and we all love coming home to a wagging tail! If you must take your pet with you, use grocery pick-up or do it during the evening hours when it's dark.

You also need to think about your buddy's paws when taking them for a walk when the sun is blazing. Asphalt temperatures can be more than 50 degrees warmer than the air temperature. Four Paws International has a simple test you can do to make sure the ground is safe for your four-legged friend. Touch the back of your hand to the ground for seven seconds. If you can't hold it there for seven seconds, it's too hot for your dog's paws.

K-9 Rico approves this message.

Please Share......important information that can save lives.

SIX MINUTES is all it takes for a dog to overheat in a hot car.

Your dog could suffer serious injury or die in a matter of minutes if left alone in a car.

• The temperature inside a closed vehicle left in the sun can double within 12 minutes.

• At least 75% of the temperature increase in a closed vehicle occurs within 5 minutes of closing the vehicle, and at least 89% of the temperature increase occurs within 15 minutes of closing the vehicle.

• Temperatures exceeding 104˚ F can lead to death or serious injury for the occupants.

• Temperatures in a closed vehicle sitting in the hot sun can reach 160˚F and above. An animal will suffer immeasurably and may die before the temperature reaches 150˚F.

• Even when parked in the shade, the vehicle temperatures can exceed 104˚C.

• Leaving windows down more than 2 inches on an unattended vehicle will not prevent a car from reaching extreme temperatures.

• Even if the animal is revived, they can die due to severe internal organ damage.

Your dog trusts you to have their best interest at heart ALWAYS. Please don't risk their safety. If you are not taking your dog inside your destination with you, PLEASE leave them at home.

Please Share and Donate if you are able to.

This mare has been saved from going to slaughter, however, if you read the post she has a hernia that is getting worse. She has a foster home lined up apparently where she will be gotten into better condition before she will then have hernia repair surgery.

Thanks
