**EDIT** The Chow is now at the Shelter and the Lab found a new home and from my other post the little puppy and the bigger dog are still out there. 3 out of 5 isn’t bad for a days work! The people who took the lab will go back later tonite for us and see if they can catch the remaining two. If not, I will be back out there after I get off work tomorrow.

So before I left, just one turn around from where I was on Cavanal Hill there were 2 more dogs a Chocolate Lab Mix and a Chow. I’m thinking whoever dumped these two left this box of food for them. It still doesn’t make it right. A passerby stopped to see if I was ok so when I told her what I was doing she went home and brought back lunch meat and her husband and ended up taking the Chocolate Lab home and we tried forever to get the little dog from my first post because they were going to take it also. I was able to get one of the two siblings back to the shelter.

All dogs have been rescued but for the handsome fella on the right.
Thank you to all the people who helped make this rescue possible. WTG Poteau!

**EDIT**
All the dogs but the little puppy and the dog next to it are still up on Cavanal.
Brought some food & water to these poor babies that were dumped on Cavanal Hill. The dumping of innocent animals is completely out of control. And is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE!

This is the 2nd Momma dog that gave birth in the same barn Cheyenne did. We don’t have room for her at the shelter so one of our volunteers agreed to foster her and her babies. She has 7 puppies. So in 2 days we have 2 mommas and 15 puppies that have no where to go. We all need to pray for these puppies and their Mommas. This all could have been prevented if they would have been spayed. Then the people just dumped them on someone else.

***Edited - Please share.

Here is ANOTHER call out to PLEASE SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR ANIMALS. Our latest guest, we named Cheyenne. It appears she was dumped and became pregnant while homeless and had seven puppies a week ago in someone's barn. The property owners contacted us, and she was trapped and brought to the shelter with her seven puppies yesterday. She is traumatized, and we are working with her. We don't know if she has ever felt a loving touch from a human. We do know that today, she had all the food she wanted, clean water and a warm place to sleep and not have to worry about her puppies starving because she couldn't provide them enough milk. To date, she will not allow us to touch her but she did walk out of the kennel and laid on the floor and closed her eyes. She felt safe.
Unfortunately, we have three more litters waiting for help. It is our responsibility, as human beings, to not allow this to happen to God's creatures. LeFlore County and every place in the world, please call you shelters, friends, vets and help those that may need help in getting their animals altered. IF YOU SEE A STRAY FEED IT. THEY MAY HANG AROOUND FOR AWHILE AND BE AN INCONVENIENCE BUT KNOW YOU HAVE DONE THE RIGHT THING AND HELPED AN ANIMAL IN NEED. THEN REACH OUT TO A RESCUE OR SHELTER. YES, THERE ARE ALOT OF TIMES WE CANNOT HELP BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY, BUT WE CAN PUT YOU ON A WAIT LIST. Our world will be a better place when love and compassion is shown and shared.

One more for the sake of the dogs. 9 more out of LeFore County where they were not wanted, to the land of oppertunity. PVHS thanks our volunteers, the Artemis Project volunteers and their rescuers and a shout out to all rescuers out there…THANK YOU for your selfless dedication to helping the strays, the abandoned, the dumped, and the surrendered get the second chance at life that they so deserve. 9 today yet so many more to go.

This shout out goes to our donors. Without the generosity of our donors we could not do this. Without our faithful monthly & yearly donors we couldn’t save as many as we do, well we wouldn’t be able to save any. We exist on donations only whether it be monetarily and/or volunteering we appreciate you.

If you would like to make a monetary donation, please go to our website at poteaupets.org and click on the donation button.

To Volunteer, please call or stop by PVHS during business hours and fill out our volunteer form and one of our volunteers will talk with you and get you started based on what your interest is.

All animals deserve to be loved and respected.

Thanks!!!

From our transport van to another transport van then on to a safe new happy life. 1 momma and 9 precious puppies.
Please help the rescues by fostering. Adopt only if you plan on keeping the dog, no matter what, at all costs. Dumping, abandoning & surrendering your pet, is unacceptable. It is out of control, and as long as it keeps happening, shelters & rescues everywhere will not be able to catch a break which results in euthanasia. Every single day. These animals are innocent. They didn’t ask to be treated this way. Be kind - always.

Interested in Adoption? Adopted Pets are The Best!

Poteau Valley Humane Society has been helping rescued animals find permanent, loving homes since 1995! Each of our rescues are worked with, socialized and oftentimes, leash and house-trained. A small base of Volunteers work each day to ensure that you adopt a healthy, happy animal! We take pride in maintaining a clean, inviting shelter in which you can visit, stay awhile, and, perhaps, choose your new best “furry” friend be it puppy, adult dog, cat or kitten. We do have an application process should you see a rescue which you would like to give a permanent, loving home. There are two ways to make application: (1) ONLINE adoption Form or visit the shelter by APPT.

To access the ONLINE ADOPTION FORM, please go to poteaupets.org and click on the ADOPTION LINK. The LOBBY is closed to visitors during this time; however, we are welcoming visitors by appt. Please call 918-649-0986 between hrs. of 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Monday thru Fri. or Sat. from 10 a.m. - Noon to SCHEDULE an Appt. Adoption fees range: $100 for adult dogs; $50 for adult cats; $50 for puppies; $25 for kittens (adopter will be asked to sign a binding agreement to have the puppy or kitten spayed or neutered on a timely basis and follow up is done; )

The PVHS website poteaupets.org is currently undergoing major changes to bring it up to date, but you can access it for the ADOPTION form and to see posts of some of the rescues currently available. Should you have questions about adoption, etc., please call 918-649-0986 or email [email protected] We also have News and updates posted to our facebook.com/poteauvalley.pets If you are considering adoption, we invite you to check out the many healthy, wonderful rescues that are available at Poteau Valley Humane Society!!
