Every once in a while, I will see a dog that reminds me so much of Rowdy. But never has one stop being in my tracks like it did today. This little boys name is Ollie. He is nine months old. And I’d have to think if I ever had known rowdy with four legs this would’ve been him. something in the way he moved and his mannerisms the way he ran exactly what I imagine. Rowdy would have been like with four legs. I could feel the tears rolling up and running down my cheeks as I watched him play with Bentley.

6 1/2 years ago the CBRRR are bestowed upon me a great gift, to be the guardian of Rowdy. I knew then that I had big shoes to fill and a great number of people were putting a lot of faith in me to make sure that he had the best life he could ever have. And so in March 2015, nine people transported him 1100 miles and I picked him up along with my friend Wanda in Little Rock, Arkansas. The first year was not easy and it it was absolutely filled with lessons and trials of which I wasn’t sure I could overcome. Rowdy taught me anything is possible. His grit is the reason he survived losing a limb, mange, and deaths door; the very spot he was when he arrived at Tawny Humphrey’s. From the beginning there are a great number of things I thought Rowdy would never be able to do. Because having three legs I just didn’t know if he’d have the strength or the interest. Swimming and playing fetch were a regular part of the routine as time passed. He surprised me ever day and proved me wrong. On my hardest days, he was a constant reminder that if he could do something; I could too. He brought smiles and love to all during our journey. Day cares all over the Midwest, hotels, areas restricted to dogs, long car rides…He was a ray of light on the darkest of days. The unexpected gift he brought me and likely the greatest of all, are the friendships and bonds with the humans at the core of his story and lives he touched in the Chessie community. Rowdy was never my dog; he was ours. All I hoped was that I gave him a life of which his family approved. In May, Rowdy got a much needed lease on life after a tough recovery from surgery. I saw his joy return with Bentley for the first time since losing his best friend, Brookie. The last 6 weeks, his fragile body began to fail at an exponential rate. It was more and more difficult to move as both knees and shoulder weakened and the pain was so bad; his legs trembled. Yet I would see glimmers of his smiley self that helped me looked past his pain; my sweet little boy was still so happy. A week ago, it was clear to me I could no longer ignore his pain. Moving from place to place could not be done without being carried by the time we got out of bed this morning. We had a video chat with his auntie Pamela Culver and talked to Tawny on the phone before heading to the vet. One last stop on the way to see his auntie Jess. Broadway Veterinary Hospital thank you for seeing us today without an appointment; for knowing him so well and confirming it was time. My heart is broken but I know that he is also with me. Run free and swim, buddy! I know Brookie and Radar were waiting for you. No more pain. I know I am not doing justice to the list of people who made this bond possible. I will post again in the next couple of days once I have gathered my thoughts and the tears dry. I owe it to everyone who has loved him, to let you know he is frolicking across the 🌈 bridge. RIP Rowdy-Bear. I love you and I miss you more than words can ever express.

I know Rowdy is so sad that he didn’t get to dress up this year for Halloween; so here’s a throwback - 5 years ago when I thought it would be hilarious for him to be Captain Hook. 🤣🙈 He was less than cooperative for most of the costume but we managed these pictures. I, of course, was his w***h.. lol

Five weeks since my surgery. Mom said she couldn’t take it anymore and gave me a quick bath outside. Brrrr it was 68 degrees, mom.. but she told me to suck it up cuz the water where I go swimming is way colder. It was over very fast and it wasn’t slippery like the bath tub so I wouldn’t hurt myself. Ok, Mom.. you’re right. 🤣🤣

Y’all, thank you so much for the well wishes. Surgery went very well but he is definitely not feeling well and he hates that he can’t roll over. It’s awful to watch as his little body bucks and jerks and his hear his sad wimper. Very strict two weeks ahead. Couldn’t even get out of the parking lot at the vet. His Auntie Regan had to come down and drive the car so I could keep him still in the back. 🙏🏼

Good Morning friends. Two weeks ago, I decided not to listen to mommy when she told me to not get out of the car. It was nighttime and I crashed when I hit the ground. It hurt SO much. The next day, the dr told mom that I had a torn ACL. I had to to see another dr last week to see if I could have something called a surgery to help me get better. Mom just dropped me off and she said that she will update everyone tonight.
