Sadly in the autumn of last year we had to say goodbye to one of our most treasured girls Scooters Nifty Lady, despite trying various options ultimately her body was beginning to fail her due to old age. Scooter really was old school and as hard as nails I’ve no doubt she would’ve gritted her teeth and pulled on through in true Poco Bueno style but that of course wouldn’t have been fair - she owed me nothing and I owed her everything. She spent her last months on good grazing with China enjoying the sunshine the pair truly were inseparable. I can honestly say it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do and I miss her terribly, to me she was one in a million.
Today me, Reece and my friend Sue finally ‘turned her out’ and scattered her back onto the big field where she had spent happy years raising her foals, babysitting the other foals and being boss b*tch 😂 it was amazing how all the horses came down together and dear Rival even gave her a sniff before we let her go, horses have a funny way of knowing. I am incredibly lucky to have her daughter China who we currently ride but will undoubtedly one day go on to be a fantastic mother and also Spirit Scooter’s son her last ever foal who looking back now was adequately named… he has gone with his first few ladies this year which have scanned in foal and so Scooter lives on 🙌 for the people with the ‘it’s just a horse attitude’ one day you’ll learn a good broodmare is worth her weight in gold, not as easily sought as one may think and I can only hope one day you’ll be as blessed as I was.
❤️ rest easy now my old girl the best mother and most loving mare, who would’ve thought all those years ago when you where born in Missouri our paths would eventually cross it was certainly meant to be and I’m forever grateful to Catherine for making that happen, I know you’ll be watching over everyone at the farm ❤️
